I will have some Saturday practices 10am‐12pm, specific
dates TBD, no cost, of course (great time for moms to
shop and dads to get that yard work done!) at my house
over the next few months, including summer. And both
Coach Brown and Mrs. Maxwell have expressed interest in
having summer camps. Our 'summer' homework for the
girls is to be able to do a running layup by the beginning of
the next season. In soccer, Coach Guerra and I are planning a soccer camp
everyday May 11‐15, 3:30‐5. Price is $15 per student, but
a $30 family maximum. Thank you for sharing your kids
with us!

Teachers Highlights
5th & 6th Grade
By Tiffany Vierra Students in my class were issued a 40 book challenge at
the beginning of the year. They are doing an awesome job
at working towards this goal. Students have read anywhere
between 4 and 38 books (and that was in January)
I feel so blessed that God has led me to Covenant Christian
School, where I can truly teach to the whole child and
assist parents in "training up their child in the way they
should go" (Proverbs 22:6). During my 35‐minute drive to
school every morning I can't help but look forward to
spending my day with 17 fifth and sixth graders who make
me laugh and smile.
If one were to visit Covenant Christian School they may
find the 5th/6th grade class gathered in a circle greeting
each other with a "good morning," and sharing a favorite
memory during Morning Meeting. You may find them with
their heads buried in a good book prior to the start of
chapel, while waiting in the hallway during a bathroom
break, or while walking to and from music or physical
education. In the afternoon you may find them acting as
atoms in a solid, liquid, or gas, or performing a
commercial to try to convince their classmates to move to
their region of the thirteen original colonies.
This school year has included deep discussion during Bible
class, math games, writing papers (personal narrative,
literary essay, fictional narrative, and persuasive),
science experiments, history simulations, engaging read
alouds, literature circles, and reading responses. I can't
wait to see what God has planned for the final quarter of
the school year!
7th & 8th Grade

The 7th & 8th grade class has had a great year. We have
been going through the Bible together. We have read
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and are now in Numbers. In
Math we have worked on fractions, percents, ratios,
proportions, and beginning Algebra, just to name a few. In
History we have made our way from God creating the
world all the way to the Protestant Reformation. The
students worked on a time‐line highlighting many
important facts and people. They also created their own
coat of arms with symbols representing their lives.
Grammar, Writing and Literature have kept us very busy.
We are currently reading The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.
Lewis. The students enjoyed writing about a world of their
own making. Science has the students doing several
experiments involving mold, bacteria, gravity, the
scientific method, erosion, floating metal, simple
machines and much more. Thank you so much to the
students for making my first year at CCS wonderful.

"CCS has really impacted me in a
positive way by offering me Christian
education from teachers who love
wholeheartedly. Mrs. Kanai gives her
student's individualized attention so
they can get the most out of their
education. Being in Band has really
challenged me to be the best that I can
be while playing my saxophone because
Mrs. Hasulube really pushes us to do what we didn't think
we could do and then we end up playing awesome songs
and sound pretty good on them. I've also enjoyed playing
sports at CCS so I can stay active and play and interact
with other schools. Also, recently my class got to attend
the ACSI music festival and I got to sing in a huge 200‐kid
choir with a great Christian director, Mr. Musick. I got to
meet so many new people and I can't wait for next year!"
Firehouse Corner
Firehouse in March

Firehouse this month was amazing!
The kids worshiped really hard
singing songs to God and really
meant it from their hearts. God's
presence was evident and they have
truly connected with God. I felt my
heart melted when I saw our
children honoring God! It is amazing to see our children
thriving spiritually. This is the heart of Firehouse to
connect our children with God!
We have a few kids re‐dedicated their life to Christ this
month and it is wonderful to see our children ministering
to one another by praying for each other.
We have three kids write sermons and preached it from
their hearts. Two of them are CCS students, Eren Dultra
and Janiya Chidlress and one from River of Life. It was
good to see our children boldly speak for God. I would like
to share two of our students sermons.
Eren Dultra:
Hi I'm Eren and I'm 12 years
old. Today I will be talking
about
being
brave.
The
definition of brave is ready to
face and endure danger or
pain; showing courage. Okay,
being in seventh grade, the
peer pressure is very heavy.
Everyone always says seventh
and eighth grade is always the
hardest grade with the most
drama etc. and you always
think that they are joking, but
they are not kidding. So many people are so worldly and
don't do what God would have wanted us to do. Believe
me, there could've been many times when I could have
become a kingdom jumper and been like them and when I
come to church act like the person God wants me to be.
But that would not have been right.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, "Be strong and courageous. Do
not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your
God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake
you."
I know I could've been like the world and none of you guys
would know, but God would've known. So many famous
people are influencing young teens like us to do all the
wrong things that they are doing. Our generation has to
be different. We can't be like the world if we want to do
what God wants us to do.
Isaiah 54:17 says, "No weapon that is fashioned against
you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that
rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the
servants of the Lord and their vindication from me,
declares the Lord."
Okay, another thing about me, if you don't already know,
is that I am extremely shy. I'm not one of those people
who are shy and then when you get to know them they're
talkative and crazy. When I say I am shy, I am seriously
shy. Even when you get to know me, I talk a little more,
but I am not a talkative person. At the Arise conference,
which is a women's conference but girls of my age can
participate at Kansas City, Missouri, the ladies who were
praying over me said to be brave and that I was braver
than I thought I was. But being the stubborn person I am,
I ignored it, and thought that God had made a mistake.
But
there
was
this
one
Focus,
which
is
our Wednesday night prayer, when Pastor Nancy prayed
over the women and she told me that God wanted me to
be brave, you could see how that would shake me up. I
thought that God had made a mistake. I kept thinking,
me? Why me?
And one day, during worship, He answered. I didn't get
this huge speech or anything. All I heard was,"You are
braver than you will ever imagine. You may think you
aren't brave, but you have deep faith and bravery."
1 Corinthians 16:13 says," Be on your guard; stand firm in
the faith; be courageous; be strong."
The pastors keep saying that God is moving, and we all
feel that is happening. Now is not the time for
hesitation. It's time we fight back. Here's the real
question. Pastor Nancy asked me this long time ago when
I was still new here. She said, "Do you want to be in the
move of God?"
I never really understood that, but now I do. It's the
decision you make. God doesn't hand pick the people that
he wants and won't let anyone else in. If you decide that
you want to be in this, you have to be brave. You can't
just sit around and do nothing and expect God to do
something amazing.
Psalm 27:3 says, "Though an army besiege me, my heart
will not fear; though war break out against me, even
then I will be confident."
Let's pray:
Dear God, I pray right now that you will equip all of us to
be brave and have no more hesitation. I pray that the
pressure of the world won't hold us down, and nothing
will ever stop us from serving you. Amen.
Janiya Childress:
Hi, my name is Janiya and I am
10 years old. Today I am going
to talk to you about how to be
Sport in Christ. For example,
let's say you and your friend
are playing a game and you
lose. Here are some examples
of what you might do. 1. Do you cry?
2. Do you get mad?
3. Do you kick your friend out?
4. Do you command a rematch?
5. Do you congratulate a friend?
What would you chose? I hope you choose number 5.
Congratulate your friend.
Have you ever been in situation where you or your friend
got mad? I do!
One day me and my friend were going to play basketball
and we are saying stuff like I am going to win and you are
going to lose and she won and I lost. I was very mad and
embarrassed but I got over it and I ran over to her and
said good job because I realized what Jesus wants of us!
Jesus wants us to be nice to others and bring Jesus to
others. I am sure we all want to be treated nice so we
should treat others the same way.
Luke 6:31 says "Do to others as you would have them do
to you".
Let us close in prayer: Dear Jesus thank you for this day and for Firehouse. Help
us to be a good sport as we carry your name to others! I
pray that we will all take something out of the sermon
and be serious about it in Jesus name!
I hope you got blessed by the sermons of our students. If
your child has not attended Firehouse, I encourage you to
bring your child and make them be a part of what God is
doing right now with our children. Firehouse is for kids
ages 6‐12 years old. Firehouse meets every 3rd Friday of
the month from 6:30‐8:30pm at River of Life Church ‐
1620 N. Randall Rd. Aurora. It is an out of school program

"Los niños que tienen un estilo
diferente para aprender no son
flojos, ni lentos o rebeldes", dijo
Mrs. Terry Scudamore, la terapista
educacional que está trabajando
con mi hija Arely Soto, quien
actualmente estudia el 5to. Grado en Covenant Christian
School.
"Dejar a un niño con una inteligencia de promedio a
superior sin tratamiento o diagnóstico puede ser
frustrante, al ver su rendimiento escolar. Los estudiantes
que batallan para deletrear, o que su escritura es poco
legible, que no pueden expresar sus pensamientos
verbalmente o al escribir, y que tienen dificultades para
leer o Matemáticas, generalmente es porque tienen
algunas situaciones por las que no aprenden igual que los
demás".
"Estar en 5to. Grado para Arely no ha sido fácil, los
primeros meses no lograba buenos grados, a pesar de que
estudiaba y se esforzaba, los resultados no eran los
esperados: tampoco era fácil para ella concentrarse. Era
muy estresante porque aún cuando estudiaba una y otra
vez, olvidaba casi inmediatamente las cosas. En esa parte
de nuestro viaje, estábamos las dos cansadas".
Por un lado, era una situación académica cuando
estudiaba y se esforzaba antes de las evaluaciones y
fracasaba. Pero por el otro lado, eran una cuestión de fe.
Una noche, estaba tan desesperada y triste al ver que mi
hija se desesperaba y no avanzaba. Recordé Efesios 3:20 "
Al que puede hacer muchísimo más de todo lo que
podamos imaginarnos o pedir, por el poder que obra
eficazmente en nosotros". Le pedí a mi Padre celestial su
ayuda.
Esos días y semanas fueron difíciles, y aún dolorosos.
Recuerdo que " Nosotros orabamos y orabamos
constantemente a Dios pidiendo su ayuda y dirección.
Arely decía que se sentía como una "tonta" porque estaba
tan estresada porque no aprendía tan fácilmente como
otras niñas".
Le pedí consejo a Annette Brown, mama de Nadia,
compañera de Arely. Ella ofreció su ayuda para explicarle
a mi hija, tal vez eso haría más fácil para que aprendiera.
Así que empezó a ir a la casa de los Brown a estudiar. Eso
le ayudó mucho, ella lo reconoce.
Siempre estaremos agradecidas con Annette y Nadia
Brown porque se interesaron en mi hija Arely y la
impulsaron, siempre estaban levantándole el ánimo.
Luego una amiga, cuyos hijos están también en CCS, me
habló de Mrs. Scudamore y ADORE. Yo no pregunté que era
el programa, yo estaba desesperada por encontrar una
solución. Quería ver una luz.
Me interesaba que alguien le diera tutorias a Arely. De
cualquier forma, Mrs. Scudamore, la terapista educacional
me explicó que el programa era para ayudar a los niños
que aprenden diferente. Es un proceso que puede estimular
y fortalecer las areas débiles en la percepción y
cognición.
Afortunadamente, desde la primer semana fue como salir
de la oscuridad a la luz, mi hija empezó a cambiar. Estaba
emocionada por aprender, porque Matemáticas, la escuela
y los exámenes llegaron a ser una pesadilla, pero desde
entonces ya no.
Mi hija sigue trabajando para volver a ser la estudiante de
A's en sus exámenes y estoy segura que lo logrará porque
esta terapia es una puerta abierta. Mrs. Scudamore le está
enseñando Matemáticas, y habilidades para escribir. Esos
ejercicios le ayudan a sentirse más segura.
El último reto que Arely ha enfrentado, fue participar en
el Speech Meet que organiza la ASCI ( Asociación de
Escuelas Cristianas, por sus siglas en Inglés). Participó con
el "Gettysburg Address". Es probablemente el tema más
difícil que ha aprendido. Orgullosamente y para reconocer
la ayuda de Dios, Arely ganó el listón azúl, que es el
principal reconocimiento. Premio que aunque había
participado años anteriores no lo había vuelto a ganar.
Gracias a ADORE, pero también gracias a Mrs. Scudamore
porque al ayudar a los niños con diferentes estilos de
aprendizaje, ella representa las manos que están
dispuestas para servir a Dios. Especialmente le agradezco
por que las actividades y su guia le han regresado a Arely
el brillo en sus ojos. Estamos seguras que Dios le va a
seguir ayudando y tarde que temprano, su cerebro va a
trabajar en armonía como fue diseñado por Dios. Dios si
responde a las oraciones!

loose"

Children with different styles of learning are not lazy,
slow learner or rebellious as stated by Mrs. Terry
Scudamore, an education therapist who is working with
my daughter Arely Soto at Covenant Christian School's
A.D.O.R.E. (A Door Opened to Remedial Education)
program.
Mrs. Scudamore explained that these are traits that are
sometimes left undiagnosed and untreated in students with
average to superior intelligence that have specific deficit
in‐perception and or cognition which, could be frustrated
at school performance. Kids with poor spelling, illegible
handwriting, and inability to express thoughts verbally or
in writing and difficulty with reading or math are common
indications of a learning disability.
In our experience, Math was our battle. My daughter Arely
used to be a good student but when she started 5th grade,
she struggled in Math.
"5th grader for Arely was not easy, her grades weren't
good and for her she just couldn't understand stuff and
couldn't concentrate. It was very stressful even if we
studied it over million‐gazillion times, she would forget
everything. In that part of our journey both Arely and I
were tired".
It was an academic experience in one side that she studies
and fails. But on the other hand it could be a faith lesson.
One night I felt really sad, I remember Ephesians 3:20
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all
we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work
with us" and ask to my heavenly father for help".
Those times were hard and even painful. My daughter
remembered "we were praying and praying constantly
asking God for help and directions. Arely would call
herself names like dumb because she got stressed and
questioned why she could not get things easily like the
others".
"I thought that if I asked help from a friend things would
get easier for her. Every Mom always thinks what is best
for their children. So the first one we went for help from
was Nadia Brown, a CCS student. Nadia's mom Annette
Brown said she was willing to help us, so Arely started to
go over to their house on Sundays. Arely told me it helped
her a lot".
We will always be grateful with Annette Brown and her
daughter Nadia because they love Arely, and always cheer
her up.
Then a friend of mine whose kids are CCS students of the
A.D.O.R.E. program mentioned to me about this program.
I really didn't care about the program at first until I begun
to understand the meaning of it.
I thought at first it is about tutoring, but it is not. Mrs.
Scudamore, the educational therapist explained to me that
the program is for helping kids stimulate and strengthen
areas of weakness in perception and cognition.
Fortunately when Arely enrolled in the A.D.O.R.E.
program, it was like darkness to light. Arely started to
change. She was excited about learning, Math, school and
tests, because at some point before they become to be
like a nightmare to her. I am glad she is out of it.
My daughter is still working on getting back her "A" in her
tests, but I know that this therapy is really a door opening
for my daughter. Mrs. Scudamore is teaching her Math,
and some Writing skills, and those exercises, home‐works
have helped her to feel confident again even taking tests.
Her last challenge was the Speech Meet. "She felt
confident in memorizing the Gettysburg Address. It was
probably the hardest speech that she has ever memorized".
Arely was very happy because she got the blue ribbon, the
highest level of ribbon which she never got when she was
in 2nd grade at Speech Meet before.
I would like to thank the A.D.O.R.E. program and Mrs.
Scudamore for being those hands that is willing to serve
God to get all those kids who face different perception for
learning and especially for giving back the glow in Arely's
eyes and the confidence she needed. Arely has been doing
great and we all believe that she will be accomplishing
more. God truly answers prayers!
