How to enjoy your tennis at North Beach
We can all enjoy our tennis at North Beach if we all do the right thing by everyone else.
The club is committed to providing a sporting and social environment that is fun, rewarding, safe and healthy. We
believe that every club member and everyone with whom we deal has the right to be treated with respect, dignity and
fairness. This means that physical or verbal abuse, harassment, sexual abuse and exploitation shall have no place
at our club. The club has adopted Tennis Australia’s Member Protection Bylaw and disciplinary action can be taken
against a member who is in breach of this policy. Our aim is to ensure that everyone involved in North Beach Tennis
Club gets the greatest possible enjoyment from participating at the club and is safe from harm.
Club Facilities
There are 12 grass courts for summer play and 8 synthetic and 4 acrylic courts for year-Rd use. The clubhouse
provides changerooms, a bar, kitchen and entertainment facilities. There is wheelchair access. Please note that the
clubhouse / verandah is a smoke-free venue.
Member Access to Courts and Clubhouse
All facilities are open to all members at times of organised tennis (see below). Members, 17 years and over, may
buy a key for access to the courts and toilets for use at all other times. Please contact Terry Bick (Grounds Director)
for hire key details.
Please note that unauthorised use of courts and other facilities can cause damage and impose liabilities on the
club. The club has a duty of care to its members and therefore it is in the interests of all members to challenge
anyone seen climbing fences to gain unauthorised access to courts or in any way damaging club facilities. This is a
reportable offence to a member of the Executive Committee.
Clubhouse Hire
The clubhouse is available for hire as an entertainment venue to members only. A hire cost ($250.00) and bond
($300.00) applies. Please contact the President (Ross Graffin: 0411 065 945).

All fees include Tennis West affiliation fees per member, provision of balls for organised play, provision of tea and
coffee on organised play and tournament days, and GST. Pennant fees apply in addition for members choosing to
play pennant tennis.
The club financial year runs from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014. All fees and levies are due and payable at the
beginning of the financial year. Pro-rata rates apply for new members joining at times other than the beginning of

Visitor Fees
Visitors are welcome to play when accompanied by a member. The adult visitor fee is $10 Tuesdays and $15 Saturdays per
visit. Envelopes for payment are located at the Pro Shop. Members must sign in their visitors. Visitors intending to apply
for membership must complete an application form.
Public Hire of Courts
The 4 plexipave courts and the 8 synthetic courts (under lights) are available for public hire through the club coach, Rob
Kennedy, on tel. 0424 618 590. Players must supply their own balls and night play must cease on the back synthetic
courts by 10.00pm (Council restriction).

Court Usage
Grass courts are open for play for members only from October through to July or later depending on condition of the
courts. The grass courts are closed for maintenance all day Mondays and on Fridays until 3.30pm. Maintenance may
include the use of weedicides, herbicides and fertilisers. One or more grass courts may be closed at other times –
please take notice of the signs on the gates or courts. As a general rule, NO NET means NO PLAY on that court and if
a net is on the ground, other courts should be used before that court is brought into play. In the event of heavy dew or
rain, the decision to play on grass rests with the Groundsperson, Grounds Director or Tennis Director.
Organised Social Play
Saturday from 1.30pm

Mixed scroungers (summer season).
(There is a $2 fee per time for members choosing to play scroungers tennis. This covers prizes, cheese & biscuits).

Organised social play frequently takes all courts. Please note that courts are not available for hire to the public or for members’ private
use during organised social play periods, unless surplus courts are available.

Court Etiquette
All players are expected to observe standard court etiquette at all times. Members using courts for singles play should
give way to members waiting to play doubles. The dress code at North Beach follows the standards set out in the Tennis
West Rule Book which states: “All clothing must be designed and manufactured as tennis clothing and must
be clean and tidy in order to maintain an appropriate standard of dress and decorum.” Penalties ranging up to
exclusion from the club may be applied by the Executive Committee for transgression of accepted etiquette.
League
The club enters teams in the Tennis West summer and winter competitions. Some external courts may be hired to
allow sufficient courts for social play on weekends. League fees include registration, new balls for home matches, and
the hire of external courts (a cost spread across all club league teams). Used balls may be retained by the teams for
practice purposes. All league players and reserves must be full financial members of the club and pay league fees at
the time of nomination.
Junior Club
The junior club (up to age 16) enjoys mixed social play on Friday afternoons (4.00pm to 6.00pm - school terms one and
four) and league play on Sunday mornings during the summer and winter seasons. Members of the Sub-junior club are
invited to join the Senior club upon attaining the age of 17 years, or at an earlier age depending on playing skills and court

Net Prophet
The club’s newsletter, Net Prophet, is produced during the season to keep members informed of club activities. It is
emailed to members, and is available on the website and at the clubhouse.

Social Events
A number of social events are organised for members and their guests throughout the year at the clubhouse or at
external venues. Social events are advertised in the club annual calendar, on notice boards in the clubhouse, in the
Net Prophet and on the club website, and by announcements at social play. Join in, bring your friends and enjoy the
company and entertainment.
Tea Roster
All members and guests enjoy the facilities of refreshments during organised social play and bar facilities after play.
Members are rostered on for tea duties during the year as detailed in the calendar and on the noticeboard in the
clubhouse. This is a once-a-year commitment to the club and members are asked to ensure that they carry out their
rostered duty. Any change should be organised directly with another member. The bar is run by members who volunteer
their time and energy during the year.
