Patient care, like other technically complex and high risk services, is an interdependent process carried out
by teams of individuals with advanced technical training who have varying roles and decision making
responsibilities. While technical training assures proficiency in specific tasks, it does not address the
potential for error deriving from communication and decision making in dynamic environments.
In response to these challenges, the aviation industry has developed training focussed on the role of human
factors on teams working in complex environments. These techniques have been successfully developed
and applied by Global Air Training, working with NHS Trusts and other healthcare organisations. The TRM
training course demonstrates the applicability of lessons proven in aviation to patient safety and draws upon
case studies and experience in NHS Trusts.
Conditions
The fee for this course is £275+vat. This includes all lunch, refreshments, tuition and course materials. GAT standard terms and
conditions apply. All cancellations will incur a 20% administration fee. Cancellations within 28 days of the course date will incur the full course

Course Facilitator - Sue Norwood
Di is a founding director of Global Air Training. Her background is in commercial
aviation and airline management. She has worked in the industry for 19
years, in instructional roles in safety procedures and error avoidance,
working with airlines worldwide. Di is an accredited Civil Aviation Authority
Crew Resource Management Instructor and Examiner and is the Chief Tutor
for Global Air Training's CAA Accredited CRM Train the Trainer
Programme. She holds a pilot's licence and is a member of an
international aviation incident team.
Sue has an in-depth knowledge of healthcare having worked in many
areas of service provision, particularly public health, education and
professional development, quality assurance and standard setting.
She has a wide experience of advisor y, consultancy and project
management roles to health authorities, higher education institutions
and other agencies and as a member of editorial boards of major
publishers of health and nursing related journals. She is a qualified
nurse, health visitor and teacher. She holds a post-graduate diploma
in sociological research and is a reviewer for CHI. In her current role
as Training & Development Manager with Global Air Training, Sue is
implementing innovative training programmes in healthcare based
on concepts and techniques from the Aviation Industry.
