SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING SPORTS FOUNDATION WORLD SHOOTING & RECREATIONAL COMPLEX • SPARTA, IL 2015 NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 THANK YOU! THANKS TO THE generous support of people like Larry and Brenda Potterfield, the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation will be able to introduce the clay target sports and the pistol sports to more youth across the nation and give them the opportunity to participate in high-quality team-based competitions like SCTP and SPP. “Brenda and I are proud to partner with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation to support getting more kids involved in shooting sports today,” said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. “We strongly support initiatives like this because we believe we have an obligation to help change the future for the better.” 2 MEET THE POTTERFIELDS TUESDAY, FROM 1:30–3:00PM IN THE MAIN EVENTS BUILDING PROUDLY OPERATES: Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation 5931 Roft Road San Antonio, Texas 78253 210-448-8946 www.sssfonline.org If you have questions after reading this program, please contact: [email protected] 3 2015 SCTP & SPP National Team Championships DIRECTOR’S LETTER Greetings to all athletes, parents, coaches, state advisors, and supporters! On behalf of the SSSF staff and Board of Directors, I am pleased to welcome everyone to the 2015 SSSF National Championships. We expect this year’s tournament to draw nearly 3,000 competitors, plus about 10,000 coaches, parents, grandparents, siblings, and other spectators during championship week. We are glad that YOU are part of it all! This event is the culmination and celebration of the hard work put forth all season by athletes, coaches, parents, and state advisors. We thank you all for the time, effort, and resources you put into the shooting sports. These contributions are vital in furthering the shooting sports as a youth development vehicle and in strengthening the Second Amendment rights of our country. There is so much to do at Nationals! For SCTP participants, we are again offering handicap trap, doubles trap, and doubles skeet, in addition to our standard events. For SPP participants, competition slots are open throughout the week. Several side events will also be available for all to enjoy, including Make-a-Break, Crazy Quail, a rimfire rifle demonstration stage at the pistol berm, and more. Coaches - be sure to register for the coaches’ shoot, and athletes won’t want to miss the world’s biggest “Annie Oakley shoot” (i.e., Last Competitor Standing) on Wednesday and Friday. There will be LOTS happening at the Main Events Building throughout the week. On Thursday, college representatives will be on hand to discuss education and shooting opportunities beyond high school. Friday is Conservation Day, when conservation organizations will be present to discuss how local chapters can help support your team. Looking for a new gun or shooting accessories? SSSF Nationals is your place to shop! The vendor mall at the WSRC will be buzzing with activity. Please take some time to stop in and see all of the vendors who have come to Sparta, to support and thank those who support the SCTP and SPP! Speaking of folks who support the youth shooting sports -- Larry and Brenda Potterfield are scheduled to be on site for a meet-and-greet on Tuesday, July 14 at the Main Events Building from 1:30 to 3:00. Please take the time to stop by to say hello and express your thanks for all the Potterfield family does to support Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Pistol Program teams. Please enjoy your time at our National Championships. We are glad you are here! Best of luck to all competitors – be safe and have fun! You Could Be In The Next Issue! FAUSTI Caledon Shotguns For Kids By Kids I really appreciate all that Junior Shootersmagazine does harsh and very steep. The birds like it where they think they are safe from hunters, which is many miles away from easy access. I used the 12-gauge and absolutely loved it! It was great ago, Junior Shootersgave me a pair of FAUSTI Caledon Over and Under (O/U) shotguns to try out: a 12-gauge and a long and use all your energy to get to where you want to be (which is on top of the birds), By: Phillip Barrus (14) and have really enjoyed doing so. The standard 12-gauge metallic bead, and a single selectable trigger. The highest 28”, or 26” barrel. The 12-gauge model weighs 7.25 pounds, while the 20-gauge weighs a modest 6.3 pounds. The Caledon barrel length of 28”, a 12-1/2” length of pull and weighs only 6.1 pounds. Ease of assembly: The two FAUSTIs were a snap to put together and came apart easily. important if you want your gun to last a long How it felt in my hands: The guns felt great (3) and shot right where I wanted it to. It was really smooth to shoot and easy to swing at a moving bird or a target. The barrel was just long enough that you wouldn’t miss something by jumping over it but short enough that it could be swung (4) other ways. It was lightweight and easy to shoot fast-moving both felt great. Sights: Each gun had a large brass bead at the end of its top barrel which was great. You could see birds and targets with would not change the sight picture at all. Recoil: through the gun, and with the interchangeable choke tubes, (1) Safety: The guns had a safety on the top of the receiver. are what these guns are really made for, but not so much for upland birds and had great success with both of the guns. I Junior Shooterslent it to me These guns were great, and I would not change anything on either of them. They were awesome in every aspect, and I had a blast trying them out! Thanks again, Junior Shooters, for allowing me to write this day was both fun and easy. The gun was just heavy enough that the recoil was minimal but did not have too much recoil CAPTIONS that as well. These guns are so well-built that they would last available in a Youth Model (top shotgun) as well as adult sized. if you buy the right one, it will never decrease in value and will be around for many years. The pinnacle of ruggedness for a shotgun is chucker 32 www.juniorshooters.net (5) (6) could use them for almost anything. From the clay disciplines pheasant. (2) engraved.
