OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE FORDS UNLIMITED CAR CLUB

we
move into the busy time o f
the year for our club events, we start with
a choice.
In the past, we
headed to Elsberry, Missouri
for the Classics
in Wheels Car
Show. A couple
of years ago,
that show was
moved to the
fall.
We
replaced it with
the Valley of
Flowers
Car
Show. Problem
is that they moved the Classics show back to
May so now we have both shows on the same
day, May 7th. The decision was split on what
show our members wanted to attend so we decided to make both a club event. (Makes it hell
for your editor to cover both). For those attending
the Classics show, we will be meeting at the Burger King in St. Peters located at the Mid-Rivers
Drive exit and the North Service Road, just north
of Highway 70. We will be meeting at 7:45 am
and leaving at 8 am sharp. Come early if you
plan to eat breakfast there. A pancake breakfast
is also available at the show. For those who attend the Valley show, we will meet at Crest Bowl
located at Florissant Road and St. Francis at 8
am. There’s a great donut shop just south of that
location if you are hungry, come early.
On the following day, 6 of our members
will represent our club at the Valley of Flowers
parade. If you are signed up, please see Dan
Kelly for details.

We have a new day
trip event planned on the 21st.
We will be heading to Fulton,
Missouri to tour the Backer
Auto World Museum and the
Winston Churchill Memorial.
We will meet at the strip mall located at the Lake
St. Louis exit 214, north of I-70. We will meet at
8 am and leave at 8:15 am. Lunch will be at the
Post Office Bar & Grill. Cost for the auto museum and the Churchill Museum is $6.50 per
person for each event. We plan to arrive at the
Backer Auto World at 10 am. We will then head
for lunch around 11:30 am. We are scheduled to
be at the Post Office Bar & Grill at 11:45 am. The
restaurant is located in the Brick District which
offers some shops that our members might enjoy. We are scheduled to arrive at the National
Churchill Museum by 1:45 pm. This year marked
the 70th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s the
1946 address “Sinews of Peace.” The Brick District is only 3 blocks from the museum, so cars
could remained parked and walk there instead of
trying to find parking on the streets around the
museum.
We will finish the month by attending the Salute to the Troops car
show in O’Fallon, Missouri on May
22nd. We will meet at the Burger
King located at Highway 70 and MidRivers Mall Drive (north side). We will meet at
8:30 am. Come a little earlier if you plan to eat
breakfast at Burger King. If you prefer not to
caravan, the show is held at the VFW Post 5077
located at 8500 Veterans Memorial Parkway in
O’Fallon, Missouri. Space is limited at this show
so come early. For show information, contact
club member, Lynette Lewis at 636-795-8268.

n a cool, actually downright cold,
April 9th, our club attended the
7th
annual
Mustang
Roundup presented by the Mustang
Club of St. Louis. Again this year,
the display was held at the Museum
of Transportation. With the chilly
weather, the turnout this year was
somewhat smaller then usual, but our club
had 24 of our members display their vehicles. The day started with temps at or
below the freezing mark. All things
considered, it could have been worse, it
could have been raining. All in all, it
was a nice day to bring out our cars
and trucks for this annual spring outing.

ow, what a day. On April 17th,
our club celebrated the 52nd anniversary of the introduction of
the Mustang. We could not have asked
for a better day. With temps around 70
degrees, the trees in perfect bloom and
the high allergens in their springtime
place, we had a perfect day to cruise to
Hermann, Missouri.
Our trip to this historic German
town was a great way to spend our Sunday. Tucked away in the Missouri River
Valley, Hermann is a picture book village
where 19th-century brick buildings hug
the sidewalk, as they do in Germany.
With a noon start, we really didn’t have
much time at Hermann but made the best
of our time with a visit to the Concert Hall
and Barrel for lunch. With the great
weather, we were seated at their outside
patio feasting on bratwurst, Rubin sandwiches and an occasional beer or two.
We finished our cruise with a stop at a
local ice cream shop, just to make sure
our calorie count was satisfied.
We made it through the day without any unneeded U-turns but there was
a bright red Shelby that developed a flat
tire on the way home. Great day!

e are somewhat behind on our sales for
tickets to The BackStoppers fundraiser.
The reserved seats normally cost $13
each but we are buying them for $10 with $2.00
of each sale going to the charity. We are hoping
to have each member sell 10 tickets to make this
successful. It’s a good time to find friends and
family and get them interested. It is a fun night
and weather holds out, we will be able to drive
our cars on the warning track before the game.
Please see Dan Kelly for information and tickets.

T
his month we welcome 3 new members.
Wayne Lenzing has joined. Wayne and
Barbara live in Lake St. Louis and own a
1966 Mustang convertible and a 2015 Mustang
convertible. Also joining was Joe Robinson who
resides in St. Louis. Joe drives a 2010 Mustang
convertible and was sponsored by Josh Johnson. Last but now least is John Hardy. John lives
drives a low mileage 1979 turbo hatchback Mustang that he purchased new. He was sponsored
by Jerry Grimmer. Welcome to all of our new
members.
A
fter the GM truck commercial that basically made fun of the aluminum body on
the Ford F-150, GM seems to have no
comment now. It seems that the Ford was the
only truck that got top safety ratings of ALL of
the trucks tested.
With another large turnout at our April
membership meeting, we had another large 5050 pot. Gary Burch won 1/2 of the $106 pot and
donated $25 to our Christmas toy drive. Thanks
Gary!
Steve Schneider sent
this information on a new “Cars
and Coffee” event to be held at
Ball Park Village. They will be
held on the 2nd Saturday of
each month, May through August, from 10am until noon. If
you like “Cars and Coffee”, Jim Biermann also
noted that there is one held next to the
McDonalds located at West Port Plaza. This
event is held from 8am till 10am on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Come early to this one as it
fills up very early. If you are looking for something to do on May 14th, Gateway Classic Cars
in O’Fallon, Illinois will be holding their Spring
Fling from 9 am till 5 pm. This will benefit the
Children’s Miracle Network. For more info call
618-271-3000.
Updating our information, we find that
some members have new phone numbers, new
email addresses or have moved. Depending on
how you receive your newsletter, changing your
email or home address will probably effect the
delivery of your newsletter. Please let us know
as changes come. As most of you know, we had
problems with our email delivery last month as
some members did not receive their newsletter.
Please let us know if this happens to you. (Boy
do I hate Windows 10).
Our monthly membership
meetings are held on the 2nd
Wednesday of each month except
January at Sports Cafe, 3579
Pennridge Drive, Bridgeton, MO 63044 at 7
pm. Their phone numbers is (314) 2981631. Please call Sports Cafe to check on
weather related meeting cancellations.
Our board of directors meetings are held the first Wednesday
of each month at Dorsett Sybergs
which is located at the NE corner of Highway 270 and Dorsett Road. Check with any
board member on weather related cancellations. The meetings start at 6:30 pm.
