Flue-Gas Sample
Conditioning System
(Heavy Duty)
P/N 24-7223
Rev. 0 – March 2001
Introduction
The Bacharach Flue-Gas Sample Conditioning System (Heavy Duty)
consists of the following major components:
• Heated Probe and Hose Assembly
• Peltier Flue Gas Sample Conditioner & Hose Heater Controller
• Flue Gas Outlet Filter
The function of this system is to remove water vapor from the stack-gas
sample, thus preventing the formation of water droplets in the sampling system. If water droplets were to form in the sampling probe or
interconnecting hoses, a portion of the gas sample could be absorbed by
the water, thus resulting in a lower than actual reading of NO2
and SO2.
Water vapor is removed from the stack-gas sample by first passing the
sample through a heated hose assembly, thus preventing the possibility
of water from condensing inside a cold hose. The gas sample is then
passed through a Peltier Sample Conditioner, where the sample is
chilled, resulting in the water vapor that is contained in the gas sample
to be removed from the sample.
The water that was extracted from the gas sample is pumped out of the
conditioner unit and through a hose that is used to direct the water into
the nearest drain.
The now dry, conditioned flue-gas sample is then directed to a combustion test analyzer for analysis.

1. Attach the flue gas inlet fitting, the hose power connector, and the
hose thermocouple connector of the Heated Probe and Hose Assembly to the Peltier Flue Gas Sample Conditioner & Hose Heater
Controller as shown in Figure 1.
2. Attach the flue gas outlet filter with its associated hoses to the
conditioner/heater unit’s flue gas outlet port.
3. At this time leave the conditioned flue gas sample fitting, and the
probe’s pressure fitting and thermocouple connector disconnected
from the combustion analyzer.

Operation
1. Using the supplied GFI connector, plug the Peltier Flue Gas Sample
Conditioner & Hose Heater Controller into an appropriate 120 VAC,
50/60 Hz wall outlet.
2. See Figure 2. Press and hold down the Hose Temperature Setpoint
button to confirm that the heater controller is set at 170 °F. If
necessary, press the ▲▼ buttons until the temperature display
reads 170.
3. Allow the Probe and Hose Assembly to warm up for a minimum of
15 minutes before conducting a combustion efficiency test.
WARNING! The probe is heated to a maximum temperature
of 170 °F (77 °C). Place the probe in a safe area during
warm up.
4. While the Probe and Hose Assembly is heating, connect the conditioned flue gas outlet fitting, and the probe’s pressure fitting and
thermocouple connector to the combustion analyzer as directed in
the analyzer’s instruction manual.
5. Direct the water that will be condensed from the flue-gas sample to
the nearest drain using a hose connected to the condensate pump’s
outlet fitting.
6. At the conclusion of the 15 minute warm-up period, the heater
controller’s temperature display should read at least 150 °F. If not,
allow the hose to continue to heat until this temperature is reached.
7. When the Hose and Probe Assembly is up to temperature, insert the
probe into the stack and begin combustion-efficiency testing as
described in the combustion analyzer’s instruction manual.
8. At the conclusion of the combustion test, remove probe from stack
and unplug the conditioner/heater unit. Allow the probe to cool
before storing.
