If you wear a hearing aid, use the “T” setting for our loop system. TAILPIECE: A family of atheists had a clever son who was good at everything - except maths. The local school could not get him either to take an interest in it, or make any progress in it. Then they heard that the local RC high school had a superb maths department, so they decided to go against their anti-religious feelings, and send him there. After a couple of weeks, they noticed that after school, he would go straight to his room, and spend hours studying in silence. This went on for the two years in Years 10 & 11. At the GCSE’s, he got an A* in maths. In their delight, the parents asked him what made him so good. Was it the friends he had made? No. Was it the one-to-one tuition for which the school was famous? No. Then what was it?? He answered: “Mum, the first day I went into the maths classroom, I saw an image on the wall of some guy nailed on to a ‘plus’ sign. I knew then that they really meant business...”
