JAC urges Winger driver

IMPHAL, Oct 10: JAC constituted against the dead of Heikrujam
Thoiba of Ningthoukhong Maning Ward No 7 has asked the driver
of Tata Winger, who hit Thoiba to death, to reveal his identity at the
earliest.
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, JAC
Convenor RK Tombisana said that Heikrujam Thoiba (48)
was hit by a speeding Tata Winger at Ghari Lamkhai at around
7.30 pm on September 30 last.
After violently hitting Thoiba, who went on a bicycle to a
nearby shop to purchase some goods, the driver sped away
towards Imphal without even looking at the victim, RK
Tombisana said.
She added that Thoibi was engaged as a mason in the
construction of Life School boarding at Ghari Lamkhai Maning
Leikai Khwairakpam.
Saying that Thoiba was rushed to RIMS hospital after the
incident, Tombisana said that he however succumbed to his
injuries the same day after he was referred to Raj Medicity.
Tombisana requested the driver of the Tata Winger to
contact on mobile phone number 9089864794 and help the
victim’s family on humanitarian ground.
Thoiba is survived by five daughters.
AR joins Swacch Bharat Mission
IMPHAL, Oct 10: Taking forward the initiative of clean India
Campaign, 6 DOGRA of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of Hqs
IGAR (South) in its endeavour to connect the remotest region of
Manipur to the mainstream part of India, organised ‘Swachh
Bharat Mission’ for the border villages of Molcham, Tidam,
Khengjang and T Nampao.
The CO of 6th DOGRA distributed toilet seats and accessories to the villagers, reiterating the importance of health and
hygiene in our daily life.
The steps taken up by AR is to ensure creation of toilets
in these remote border villages thereby preventing people from
defecating in open.
In another endeavour, a save energy awareness drive was
carried out by 32 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector AR under the
aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) today.
During the drive, locals of Joupi village were educated
about saving electricity by using low power consuming appliances like CFL bulbs, tube lights, LED lights etc in place of
incandescent bulbs.
Later the unit changed all the incandescent light bulbs and
replaced them with CFL bulbs in all houses of Joupi.
World Mental Health Day
IMPHAL , Oct 10 : The 22nd World Mental Health Day was
observed at GM Hall under the aegis of State Health Department
alongwith Manipur State Mental Health Authority, Indian Psychiatric Society Manipur State Branch and Department of
Psychiatry JNIMS.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest of the function Chief
Secretary PC Lawmkunga stressed on the importance of a
mental and physical wellbeing.
He said that in trouble torn States like Manipur, people are
prone to depression.
He further appealed the public to co-operate one another to
maintain a peaceful society and thrive with harmony together.

PFA rescues animals
IMPHAL , Oct 10: Intensifying the 3rd Greet Our Guest campaign, an injured kite was rescued from a paddy field in Yairipok
by a VDF personnel namely, AK Surjit Singh.
The kite was handed over to AK Sobha, Councillor Ward
No 2, Yairipok Nagar Panchayat by Sobha who in turn handed
over to PFA Manipur today.
Later, the bird was sent for treatment in a veterinary clinic.
In another incident, a Tokay Gecko was handed over by
Yurembam Arun of Antha Mamang Leikai to PFA Thoubal.
The lizard was reportedly found inside his kitchen garden on
Wednesday, said a press release issued by PFA, Manipur.
AR apprehends UG cadre
IMPHAL , Oct 10 : Based on specific intelligence regarding the
movement of UG cadre, troops of the 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector
AR under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) along with a team of
Moreh Police launched an operation at Pangal Basti, Ward No 5,
Moreh and apprehended a KCP (N) cadre yesterday.
The apprehendee has been identified as Phundeimaiyam
Sanatomba (25) S/o (L) Ph Nirdin of Moreh Ward No 5,
Chandel.
The apprehendee was handed over to the Moreh Police
Station.
Recruitment rally on Nov 10
IMPHAL, Oct 10 : A recruitment rally in the Territorial Army in
different posts will be held at Koirengei air field on November 10,
said a statement issued today. Altogether 21 vacancies will be filled
up during the recruitment rally. The recruitment drive will be for

Chandel, Shokhomang Haokip and President of Kuki People's
Forum, Chandel, Jamkhomang Baite have announced that all the

Maneka Gandhi wishes
IMPHAL, Oct 10: Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi extended her belated World
Animal Day greetings to the people of the State.
In her message, she expressed her happiness on the changing attitude of the people of Manipur towards animal.
She further appealed to be more compassionate towards
wild animals which are the assets of the State and the nation.
Maneka Gandhi also expressed her gratitude to the people
of Manipur for their relentless support to PFA Manipur too.

leaders worldwide to redouble their efforts for the
education of all children and
to intensify the fight against
poverty".
The European Union,
when it received the 2012
Nobel peace prize decided to
use the award money precisely for this purpose by
dedicating it to children in
conflict zones under the EU's
Children of Peace Initiative.

India and Pakistan have
engaged in heavy shelling
across the frontier of the disputed territory of Kashmir for
more than a week, killing nine
Pakistani and eight Indian civilians in the worst violence

SCOURGE OF CHILD
LABOUR
Satyarthi estimates that 60
million children in India, or 6
percent of the population, are
forced into work.
This, he believes, has
nothing to do with parental
poverty, illiteracy or ignorance. Above all, children are
enslaved because employers
benefit by getting their labour
for free or for a pittance.
In his first public reaction,
Satyarthi dedicated the Peace
Prize to them : "It's an honour
to all those children who are
still suffering in slavery,
bonded labour and trafficking," he told CNN-IBN.
Over many years, Satyarthi
has taken his campaign to the
streets of India. In one operation this May, police rescued
63 children and arrested 23
suspected child traffickers at
Old Delhi railway station,
acting on a tipoff from
Satyarthi.
Some 30 million people are
enslaved worldwide, trafficked into brothels, forced
into manual labour, victims of
debt bondage or even born
into servitude, a global index
on modern slavery showed in
October last year.
Almost half are in India,
where slavery ranges from
bonded labour in quarries and
kilns to domestic work and
commercial sex exploitation.
"It's not just about India,"
the bearded, bespectacled
Satyarthi, wearing a traditional beige kurta, said as
reporters thronged around
him. "It's a crime against humanity if a child is deprived
of childhood - in my country
or any country in the world.
Humanity is at stake."

Satyarthi joins a handful
of Nobel Peace Prize winners
with ties to India - even
though the most famous peace
activist of them all and father
of independent India, Mahatma Gandhi, never received
the honour. Mother Theresa,
an Albanian-born nun, was
recognised in 1979 for her
work with the poor in the
Indian port city of Calcutta.
The Dalai Lama, the exiled
Tibetan spiritual leader who
won the prize in 1989, resides in India.
Satyarthi first became
aware of the injustice of
child labour on his first day
at primary school in Madhya
Pradesh, when he saw a
child and his father working
as cobblers.
"Since then I've been
fighting," he said. "But it
was not an issue in my
country or elsewhere until
1980 or 1981, when I
started working on it with
my colleagues." His work is
not finished.
"I promise you that I'm
not going to give up at any
cost and I'll see the end of
child labour in my lifetime,"
said Satyarthi, who lives in
New Delhi with his wife,
son and daughter.
"I'm very optimistic about
it because I've seen the journey. I've seen the shift in
the last three decades - how
child labour has become an
issue, how new laws have
been enacted in India and
globally, how the corporates
are getting more responsible."
MPP to public : Overthrow Cong
IMPHAL, Oct 10: Manipur People’s Party (MPP) today
slammed the Manipur Government and appealed to the electorate
of Hiyanglam,, which goes to by-poll on October 17, to overthrow
the ruling Congress the same way the BJP routed it in the recent
Lok Sabha election.
Congress is no longer a big party in India since it recorded
the worst defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, MPP chief N
Sovakiran said at an election rally for party candidate
Mayengbam Amutombi held at Lamjao Tejpur Public Community Hall in Kakching.
Congress’s pathetic performance in the election to the 16th
Lok Sabha was because of its involvement in wide- scale
corruption, fraud and a number of scams, Sovakiran accused.
He alleged that the Congress indulged in bribery and corruption during the past decade of its rule and the public money
they took fraudulently was then used in the Nation election.
The Congress was involved in the biggest ever graft case
in the country, the MPP president said and appealed to the
electorate of Hiyanglam to give their verdict against the Congress in the upcoming by-poll.
Congress will try to sway votes through money power, the
leader of MPP, which ruled the State for two terms, said and
called on the Hiyanglam public not to believe the Congress.
He also attacked the Manipur Trinamool Congress, saying
the regional party is not accepted in other States with the
exception of West Bengal and hence the party should not
struggle to find a foothold in Manipur.
A host of MPP leaders including party candidate Amutombi

National Handloom Expo opens

guests of honour.
T Rajen while speaking at the function exhorted the weavers to put in extra effort to enhance production as the State
stands third in the whole country in handloom items production. He said that introduction of powerloom technology would
not affect handloom items production of the State.
Informing the gathering that the Central Government has
been providing assistance to weavers from time to time, T
Rajen asked the weavers to purchase yarn from the yarn bank,
opened by the Government.
He also urged the loanee weavers to repay the loans on
time.
In her speech, M Satyabhama said that the fair is organised
in connection with the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival.
She also requested the public to encourage the handloom
weavers by purchasing their items showcased at the fair.
Around 100 stalls are opened at the fair, organised under
the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile, Government of
India.
Bail plea for assaulting...

FIR added.
It further said that the mob also allegedly obstructed the
police team who tried to evacuate the injured police personnel
including Nambol OC and also attempted to assault other
police personnel who rushed to the spot as re-enforcement
team and also burned down the vehicle allotted to Nambol OC.
Attacking security personnel while performing their duty
and stopping the process to evacuate the injured persons to
hospital are serious offences, the FIR said and added that
Nambol OC is still lying unconscious in the hospital.
After perusing the FIR, the Court observed that there is no
ground to grant a pre-arrest bail to Shanta as his name is
clearly mentioned in the FIR.
On the other hand, the Court also rejected Shanta’s bail
plea in the case of leading a mob to attack the house of one
Warepam Amumacha Devi the same day.
Shanta’s counsel in his bail plea said that Shanta was not
in his house when the incident happened as he went to the
hospital for the treatment of his injured mother.
However, the FIR, filed by Warepam Amumacha Devi said
that around 50 people led by Shanta and four others came to
her house and allegedly threatened her family members by
using machetes, sticks, stones etc.
They also allegedly pelted stones at Amumacha’s house
accusing her son of being an informer of the police and
security force. As a result gate, fencing, doors, windows and
walls of her house were badly damaged and her husband
Samungou was rushed to the hospital after he fainted.
As Shanta’s name was mentioned as accused number one
in the FIR, the Court observed that there is no ground to grant
bail to him.
One convicted in cheating...

During the trial of the case that lasted around 10 months,
the Court recorded statements of 15 prosecution and four
defence witnesses. In the final hearing of the case held today,
the Court pronounced that Sanayai is a married person and he
cheated/deceived the girl by saying that he is a bachelor.
Sanayai also made a fraudulent proposal to cheat the girl.
The Court observed that Sanayai never intended to marry
the girl. As such, he was convicted under Section 376 and 417
IPC for cheating and raping the girl.

misleading the people. Such deceitful practices of the Indian
military forces are not something new in this land.
It would do good for the Indian military forces to recall the
massive and sustained civil movement in the aftermath of the
brutal rape and murder of Th Manorama by personnel of 17th
Assam Rifles on July 11, 2004.
The killings of Sanjit and Rabina in fake encounters and
subsequent exposure of the truth by Tehelka is still fresh in
the minds of the general public. Police commandos too need
to remember the episode which bred widespread contempt
against them, the outfit said.

Speaking at the conference, Phungzathang Tonsing underscored the significance of organising such a conference in
Manipur. In tandem with the multiple growth of vehicles in
recent times, cases of road accidents have also been multiplying in the State. These cases are further compounded by the
inadequate breadth of roads.
It is quite opportune for the ASI Manipur State Chapter to
hold the conference, Phungzathang said.
The conference was attended by well known surgeons
from across the country and surgeon specialist Dr Huwang
from Taiwan.
