Introduction:
“In an ideal world difficult behaviours have no place at work. However, in reality, dealing
with difficult people is something many supervisors face as part of their everyday work life.
The stress of handling difficult people and difficult situations can create a lack of
productivity, low morale and even high absenteeism. Through this workshop, participants
will learn how to better deal with all sorts of difficult people and situations. At the same time
this workshop will provide insights in using our emotions and help develop the interpersonal
skills needed to handle difficult people and difficult situations as well as provide the tools
needed for dealing with all types of work behaviour problems”
Course Outline
1. Understanding and Knowing the Role of a Supervisor/Manager
This section will introduce to the participants the different roles & responsibilities of a
supervisor/manager.
2. Conflict - The Causes
This section covers on what influences a person’s behavior & potential causes of conflict
- Thoughts = Feelings = Behavior
3. Skills Related to Listening
This section covers the different types of listening skills - in-&-out listening, literal
listening & empathetic listening.
4. Leadership Types
This section looks at the various of leadership types - autocratic, democratic &
delegative.
5. “De-motivated” staff: What are the Signs
This section will cover on what are the signs to look out for in a “de-motivated” staff withdrawn behavior, negative work attitude, declining job performance.
6. SMART Goals
This section covers implementing goals which are Measurable, Attainable, Specific,
Timely & Realistic.
7. Managing Difficult Employees
This section will offer guidance to managers on how to supervise & manage assertively
through verbal & non-verbal communication as well as dealing with underachievers.
8. Problems with Discipline
This section examines the causes of disciplinary problems & how to manage/
resolve them.

Mr. Gregory first started out as a Sales Executive
in a company marketing office security
equipment. Due to his consistent and good
performance, he was promoted to become a
Supervisor and later, as a Sales Manager where he
was in-charge of recruiting, training and
managing the sales team ensuring that individual
quotas and group targets were met.
In his seven years with the company, he gradually
came to oversee the admin and delivery
department in addition to the sales department. It
was during that time that he honed his skills in
learning to manage people and also in general,
handling and managing difficult staff. He also
managed the sales team when he joined a credit
information service provider, where recruiting,
training and managing the team helped him to
further develop his experience.
He is currently running his own training and
consultancy business and at the same time, also
overseeing a staff strength of thirty in the accounts
receivables arm of the business – covering the
admin, operations and the collections teams.
His responsibilities include monitoring, training
and mentoring the staff as well as covering the HR
functions of the group of companies. In his more
than 20 years of supervising and managing
people. Gregory is well placed in the role of
having to managing difficult staff.
