La comunidad parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles celebrará el
Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos el domingo 19 de octubre en la
misa de 9:30AM en la Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción. Examinemos el
significado de este sacramente y la forma en que se celebra hoy en día.
La misión de la Iglesia es hacer lo que hizo Jesús. En los Evangelios
leemos sobre la preocupación de Jesús por los enfermos y de la bendición
que les da. Justo después de su Ascensión al cielo Él dirigió a sus
apóstoles, y por medio de ellos a la Iglesia, a que cuidaran de los
enfermos.
Con el tiempo la unción del sacramento había cambiado de sanación al
perdón de los pecados y el momento de recibir el sacramento cambió a ser
para los moribundos pues el perdón de los pecados prepara la persona
para el cielo. Por esta razón el Sacramento de los Enfermos entonces se
conocía como la Extrema Unción.
El Concilio Vaticano Segundo quiso regresar el sacramento al contexto de
oración mutua y preocupación porque la unción no debe considerarse
solamente para los que están en peligro de la muerte. Este cambio de
filosofía también nos hizo cambiar nuestra manera de aplicar el
sacramento. El sacramento es una celebración comunal, como debe ser
para todos los sacramentos. También nos explica que la enfermedad es
más que estar enfermo de cuerpo y que la unción sana por medio de la fe.
Hoy en día sabemos que la salud física está relacionada con la salud
mental y espiritual. Estamos conscientes que la tensión, el miedo y la
ansiedad afectan no solo nuestra mente sino nuestro cuerpo también. No
solo los que sufren por enfermedades serias como el Cáncer, enfermedad
del corazón, la diabetes, sino los que son adictos al alcohol o a las drogas,
los que tienen problemas mentales, los mayores y los que cuidan de los
enfermos, etc., pueden recibir la unción.
La Unción de los Enfermos es una sanación distinta a la sanación médica
o por cirugía. Es un acto de fe que llena a la persona con la gracia de Dios
de cuerpo, alma y espíritu. Solo Dios sabe que clases de sanación uno
más necesita. Puede ser que una herida sea sanada, que el miedo cambie a
seguridad, que la oración de la comunidad aporte el apoyo o que la
confusión se convierta en conocimiento. El sacramento no quita el
misterio del sufrimiento humano sino que ilumina el camino hacia el
misterio de un Dios amoroso.
Como celebración parroquial, el Sacramento de Unción se celebra un
domingo durante la celebración de la Eucaristía con la comunidad
presente por lo menos dos veces al año. Los que reciben la unción no solo
reciben la gracia de Dios a través de la renovación de fe sino también por
el apoyo de la comunidad y sus oraciones.

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want!
In the first reading from Isaiah we hear how the Lord promises the
suffering people of Israel that not only will their lives be filled with food
and comfort, but it will be He who “will wipe away tears from all faces.”
These words offered hope that Israel would someday be able to say to God:
"We will be glad and rejoice for He has saved us!" We are the new Israel!
Certainly in our walk we encounter difficulties and obstacles, perhaps
illness or mourning will be knocking at our door; the job and security we have today
tomorrow may fade; beauty and even strength will also fade ... What we cannot change because it does not depend on us-, is that God is our Shepherd and leads us with tender
love through green valleys and refreshing waters.
When Paul writes to his closest friends of Philippi, he assures them that he knows “how to
live in humble circumstances.” He writes that he has learned the secret of eating well and
going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need: Only in God the answer is
found.
The parable in Matthew’s gospel of the King who held the wedding feast for his son, makes
us think we have a constant invitation from God to attend a banquet, yet often the
distractions of the world become our priority. Brothers and sisters, the day you come here,
to this Church, not only makes you worthy of being Christian, but also worthy of the
promises that He has prepared for us.
Here in our little community life of Our Lady of the Angels, we can reflect on the values of
the Gospel. We have some beautiful shrines, we have received so much from the Lord. We
help and share each other in our joys, burdens and ministries. By coming to our Church we
feel that God makes us lie in “green pastures”. Church life means not only the liturgical
aspect of it, but also the celebrations. Last Friday I was able to attend the dinner of “The
20 Week Club,” I was so happy to see so many sharing the joy of giving but also of getting
something in return.
The same can be said of the children who come for Christian formation, and those who
give their voices for singing, the volunteers who play an important role in our office and
ministries every day, and those who strive to give a special decorum to the Church and
their lives ... We all have something in common: we share the desire to live in the present
with the Lord in joy, and hope for a future, here or over there with Him. Meanwhile let us
continue walking and encouraging one and other under the protection of Our Lady of the
Rosary, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Calixtus, St. Therese of Avila, St. Ignatius of Antioch, and
St. Luke.
It is important to remember we also know how to live in poverty, we go on day by day, step
by step with the confidence that if He is at my side “there is nothing I shall want”!

The Ladies of the Blessed Sacrament
will sponsor a “Pamper Yourself
Day” Sunday, October 19 in
Centennial Hall, 12:30PM to 4:00PM. Admission is
$15.00 and includes manicure, massage, refreshments
and door prizes. There will be a number of vendors
including jewelry, home décor, cosmetics, hair care,
crafts and more. Tickets may be purchased in the
Parish office on Wednesdays, from 10:00AM to
3:00PM.
SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING
OF THE SICK
Will be celebrated on Sunday, 19 October
2014 at 9:30AM, ICC. The Sacrament of
Anointing of the Sick brings the grace of the Holy
Spirit to the sick person. It is available to anyone
seriously ill, to the elderly, or anyone about to
undergo major surgery. This sacrament brings healing,
comfort and strength. People in the past, looked upon
this sacrament as the “last rite” and people avoided it.
It is not only for those in danger of death. The church
now presents it as the Sacrament of healing in
preparation for healthier life. Please adhere to the
following guidelines:
You are asked to register by calling Sr. Domenica
Troina, at 695-6089 ext. 121, by Monday, 13 October.
On the day of anointing, you will be assigned a
special seat and name tag. Only those registered by
13 October may participate in this communal
celebration of this sacrament. Those not registered by
13 October will be invited to come at a later date. All
this is to insure that the Sacrament of Anointing will
be administered with a spirit of respect and honor it
truly deserves.

DIO RIVELATO ALLE NAZIONI
Che meravigliose immagini abbiamo oggi
del regno di Dio! Isaia ci parla di una
grande festa---una festa celeste---una festa
di abbondanza con ricchi cibi e vini scelti. E’ la
speciale festa di Dio, spiega Isaia, quando Dio unira’
tutte le nazioni, asciughera’ ogni lagrima, e
distruggera’ la morte per sempre. Allora, anche,
l’intera terra si rallegrera’nel Signore e godra’ nella
grazia di Dio. Anche Gesu’ parla del cielo in termini di
una festa. Qui, il regno di Dio e’ paragonato ad una
festa che un re da’ in occasione del matrimonio di un
figlio. Questa pure e’ una festa d’abbondanza, con il
vitello grasso preparato con gran cura. Ma molti degli
invitati non vogliono venire, e cosi’ il re invita
chiunque vorrebbe onorare il figlio con la sua presenza.
E San Paolo ci dice che sia che abitiamo abbondamente
o in umili circostanze, noi possiamo fare tutte le cose
nel Signore che ci irrobustisce.
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
The weekend of October 19 our
parish will celebrate World
Mission Sunday. This year we are
invited to reach out and help build the Church in
Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, as
well as local churches throughout the Missions, in the
most remote areas across our world. Through the
work of these churches, and their witness to Christ,
the poor receive practical help and experience God’s
love and mercy, His hope and peace. Please keep the
Missions in your daily prayers. Please come prepared
next weekend to give generously in the collection for
the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. For more

During the month of November every
Catholic should pray for the souls of
our dear deceased & for all the souls
in Purgatory. We shall continue the
custom of placing the names of our
beloved deceased upon the side altar. Please clearly
write on the envelope in your packet the names of
your beloved deceased and place it in the collection
basket by October 26. The envelopes will be placed
on the side altar for the month of November. This is a
wonderful way to remember our deceased relatives.
COMMEMORATION OF
THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED
Family & friends of our dearly beloved deceased of
the past year (1 Oct 2013 – 30 Sept. 2014) are invited
to participate in a Mass of Remembrance on
Sunday November 2 at 9:30AM- ICC and
11:00AM SJC. We are asking that a family member
bring a small framed photo (5 x 7 or smaller) of the
deceased to Mass. Please do not bring the picture to
the Parish Office, but only to the Mass that you will
attend. (Please make sure your name & phone
number is on the back). The name of the recently
deceased will be announced and the photo will
remain at the side altar for the month of November.

READING OF THE DAY
GOD REVEALED TO THE
NATIONS
What wonderful images we have today
of the reign of God! Isaiah speaks to
us of a great feast—a heavenly feast—
a feast of abundance with rich foods and choice
wines. It is the Lord’s own affair, Isaiah explains,
when God will unite all nations, dry every tear, and
destroy death forever. Then, too, will the entire earth
rejoice in the Lord and bask in God’s saving grace.
Jesus speaks of heaven in terms of a feast as well.
Here, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a king’s
wedding feast given for his son. This is a feast of
abundance also, with the fattened cattle prepared
just so. But many of the people invited don’t want to
come, so the king invites anyone who would honor
his son by their presence there. And Paul tells us
that whether we live abundantly or in humble
circumstances, we can do all things in the Lord who
strengthens us.

Matthew 22:1-14.
The Lord invites us to the banquet, one of the
favorite images of messianic times. This banquet is
spread before us and can fully satisfy our needs,
yet how often have we refused the Lord’s invitation

El Señor es mi Pastor, nada me faltará!
En la primera lectura de Isaías escuchamos como el Señor promete al
pueblo sufrido de Israel que no sólo sus vidas se llenarán de comida y
confort, sino que será el mismo quien “enjugará las lágrimas de todos los
rostros.” Dichas palabras ofrecieron la esperanza de que Israel algún día
podrá decir a Dios: “me alegraré y me gozaré por que El me ha salvado!" .
Nosotros somos el nuevo Israel. Ciertamente en nuestro caminar
encontraremos dificultades y obstáculos, quizá la enfermedad o el luto tocará a nuestra
puerta, el empleo y la seguridad que hoy tenemos mañana se pueden desvanecer, la
belleza e incluso la fuerza pasan…Lo que no podremos cambiar, además porque no
depende de nosotros, es que Dios nuestro Pastor nos conduce con amor tierno y nos guía
a través de verdes valles y aguas refrescantes.
Pablo al escribir a sus amigos más cercanos en la comunidad de Filipos, les asegura que él
sabe “cómo vivir en circunstancias humildes.” Él escribe que ha aprendido el secreto de
comer bien y de pasar hambre, de la vida en abundancia y de estar en necesidad. Lo
importante es contar siempre y en cada circunstancia con Dios.
La parábola en Mateo del rey que celebró el banquete de bodas para su hijo, nos hace
pensar en la constante invitación que tenemos de parte de Dios para asistir a su banquete,
y sin embargo muchas veces las distracciones del mundo se vuelven prioritarias. El que
ustedes hoy vengan aquí, los hace dignos no solo del nombre de cristianos, sino también
merecedores de todas las promesas que él tiene preparadas para nosotros.
Aquí en nuestra pequeña vida comunitaria de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, podemos
reflejarnos evangélicamente. Tenemos unos Santuarios bellísimos, hemos recibido tanto
del Señor. Nos ayudamos los unos a los otros en nuestras cargas y en nuestros ministerios.
Al venir a nuestra Iglesia sentimos que Dios nos hace descansar en “verdes pastos”. La
vida eclesial abarca no solamente el aspecto litúrgico, sino también el celebrativo. El
viernes que pude asistir a la cena de “Las veinte semanas”, me alegró que en el compartir
de la alegría ayudáramos a la iglesia pero también recibíamos algo a cambio.
Lo mismo puedo decir de los niños que vienen a catequesis, como de aquellos que cantan,
de los voluntarios que hacen un oficio importante en su jornada, y de aquellos que se
esfuerzan por dar un decoro especial a la Iglesia y a sus vidas…Todos tenemos algo en
común, nos une el deseo de vivir un presente en gozo con el Señor y de esperar un futuro,
aquí y allá con El. Mientras tanto seguiremos caminando, como nos anima Nuestra
Señora del Rosario, San Francisco de Asís, San Calixto, Santa Teresa de Ávila, San Ignacio
de Antioquia, y San Lucas!
Sabemos igualmente como vivir en la escasez, sabemos que tenemos muchos por hacer,
pero caminamos lentamente, confiados de que cuando él nos guía nada nos faltará.

SACRAMENTO DE UNCIÓN DE
LOS ENFERMOS: Se celebrará el

Concepción (misa en inglés).
El Sacramento de la Unción de los
Enfermos lleva la gracia del Espíritu Santo a las
personas enfermas. Está disponible para cualquier
persona seriamente enferma, para los ancianos, o
cualquiera que vaya a tener una cirugía mayor. Este
sacramento brinda salud, conformidad y fuerza.
Aquellos que deseen recibir este sacramento deben
registrarse llamando a la Oficina Parroquial al 6956089, ext. 102 hasta el día 13 de Octubre. El día de la
unción, le será asignado un asiento especial y una
etiqueta para su nombre. Sólo aquellos registrados
hasta el 13 de Octubre podrán participar en esta
unción. Aquellos que no pudieron registrarse en esta
fecha serán invitados a hacerlo en una fecha posterior.

LECTURA DEL DÍA
DIOS SE REVELA A LAS
NACIONES
¡Qué maravillosas imágenes tenemos hoy
del Reino de Dios! Isaías nos habla de un gran
banquete –un banquete celestial– una fiesta con
abundancia de platillos suculentos y vinos exquisitos.
Es una celebración del mismo Señor, explica Isaías,
cuando Dios unirá a todas las naciones, secará toda
lágrima, y destruirá la muerte para siempre. Entonces,
también, la tierra entera se regocijará en el Señor y se
deleitará en la gracia salvadora de Dios.
Jesús, asimismo, habla del Cielo en términos de una
fiesta. Aquí, el Reino de los cielos es como el
banquete de bodas que el rey ofrece para su hijo. Es
también un festín de abundancia, donde ofrece
terneros gordos. Pero muchos de los invitados no
quieren asistir, así que el rey invita a cualquiera que
quiera honrar a su hijo con su presencia. Y Pablo nos
dice que sea que vivamos en la abundancia o en
circunstancias humildes, todo lo podemos en el Señor
que nos fortalece.

El fin de semana 19 de octubre
nuestra parroquia celebrará el
Domingo
Mundial
de
las
Misiones. Este año se nos invita a
extender nuestras manos y ayudar a construir la
Iglesia en Mongolia, la iglesia católica más joven del
mundo, como también a iglesias locales en las zonas
más remotas de nuestro planeta. Mediante el trabajo
de estas iglesias y su testimonio de Cristo, los pobres
reciben ayuda práctica y experimentan el amor y la
misericordia de Dios, su esperanza y su paz. Por
favor, rece diariamente por las Misiones y venga
preparado el próximo fin de semana para dar
generosamente en la colecta para la Sociedad para la

rezar por las almas de nuestros difuntos
y por todas las almas en el Purgatorio.
Continuaremos la costumbre de colocar
los nombres de nuestros amados difuntos junto al

destinado Día de los Difuntos. Por favor escriba
claramente el nombre o nombres de sus familiares o
amigos fallecidos y deposítelo en las canastas de
ofrenda o envíelo a la Oficina Parroquial antes del 26

THE SACRAMENT OF THE
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Parish community of Our Lady of the Angels will
be celebrating the Sacrament of the Anointing of the
Sick on Sunday, October 19, at the 9:30 AM Mass, at
Immaculate Conception Church. Let us look at what
this Sacrament is and the way it is now celebrated.
The mission of the Church is to do what Jesus did.
Throughout the Gospels, we read of Jesus’ concern for
the sick and his blessings. Even after his Ascension into
heaven, He directed his Apostles, and therefore the
Church, to provide care to those who were sick. Over
time, the sacrament shifted from healing to the
forgiveness of sin and the time for receiving the
sacrament shifted to the deathbed when forgiveness of
sin would be the preparation for heaven. Because of
this, the Sacrament of the Sick became known as
Extreme Unction. The Second Vatican Council wanted
to place the sacrament again within the context of
mutual prayer and concern as anointing should not be
considered only for those at the point of death. This
change in philosophy also brought about a change in
how we think about the sacrament. The sacrament is a
community celebration, as all sacraments should be. It
also tells us that sickness involves more than bodily
illness and that the anointing heals through faith.
Today, we know that physical health is related to mental
and spiritual health. We are aware that tensions, fears
and anxieties affect not only our mind but our bodies as
well. Not only those who are suffering from serious
illness, ie: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, but also, those
who are addicted to alcohol or drugs, mental illness,
caregivers, the elderly, etc. may be anointed.
The Anointing of the Sick is a different kind of healing
than a medical or surgical intervention. It is an act of
faith that graces the whole person - body, soul and spirit.
God alone knows what kind of healing one needs most.
It could be that a wound be healed, that fear turns to
confidence, when a praying community brings needed
support or that confusion turns to insight.
The
Sacrament does not remove the mystery of human
suffering but gives us a window into the mystery of a
loving God. As a Parish celebration, the Sacrament of
Anointing is celebrated during the Sunday celebration of
Eucharist with the Church community present at least
twice a year. Those anointed not only receive the grace
of God through the renewal of faith, but also, the support
of the community through their prayers. If a situation
arises, unexpected surgery, new diagnosis, etc., you may
contact Sr. Domenica to request this sacrament at a time
convenient
to
you
and
the
Church.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Trenton Council #355, Knights of
Columbus, will once again be
conducting their annual Fall Pro-Life
applique rose sale at our parish on the
following days: October 18/19 at St. Joachim's Church
at all masses. The proceeds from donations will be
used to provide bus transportation to the March for
life in Washington, DC in January, to protest the Roe
versus Wade decision in on abortion.

BISHOP O’CONNELL ASKS FOR PRAYER
FOR THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS
Pope Francis has announced an “Extraordinary Synod
of Bishops” to be held in Rome October 5-19, 2014. A
synod is an assembly of bishops from around the
world who assist the Holy Father by providing
counsel on important questions facing the Church. A
“Synod of Bishops” meets at the request of the Holy
Father, when he considers it necessary or opportune to
consult with the world’s bishops. Synods can be
“ordinary,” that is, convened to consider a topic of
interest and concern for the whole Church, or
“extraordinary,” that is, a meeting called to focus
attention on a more urgent matter of concern for the
Church. This year’s synod is “extraordinary” and its
theme is: “The pastoral challenges of the family in the
context of evangelization.” I think we all can agree
those challenges are many. In preparation for the
upcoming synod, the Holy Father has asked all
Catholics throughout the world to pray for the bishops
gathered with him in Rome October 5-19 of this year,
indeed, for the whole Church.
OBISPO O'CONNELL PIDE ORACIONES POR
EL SÍNODO SOBRE LA FAMILIA
El Papa Francisco anunció que se llevará a cabo en
Roma un “Sínodo Extraordinario de Obispos” del 5 al
19 de octubre 2014. Un sínodo es una asamblea de
obispos de por todo el mundo que apoyan al Santo
Padre para proveerle consejo
sobre asuntos
importantes que confrontan la Iglesia. Un “Sínodo de
Obispos” se reúne cuando el Santo Padre considera
necesario u oportuno consultar con los obispos del
mundo. Un sínodo “ordinario” trata de reunir a los
obispos para considerar un tema de interés o
preocupación para la Iglesia entera. El sínodo
“extraordinario” es una reunión del Papa con los
obispos para enfocar su atención en algún asunto más
urgente para la Iglesia. El sínodo de este año es
“extraordinario” y tiene como tema: “Los desafíos
pastorales de la familia en el contexto de la
evangelización.” Creo que todos estamos de acuerdo
de que son muchos los desafíos.
Para prepararnos por el sínodo, el Santo Padre ha
pedido a todos los católicos alrededor del mundo que
recen por los obispos reunidos con él en Roma del 5 al
19 de octubre de este año por el bien de la Iglesia
entera.
