Fee: Per 10 week term: £195
Claremont Project in co-operation with the British Association of Art Therapists has developed
a series of courses especially designed for those wanting to develop their skills and portfolios
for future art or art psychotherapy training. Run by both artists and art psychotherapists, these
courses aim not only to build strong portfolios but to develop knowledge of a range of art
materials, fine observational skills and aesthetic reflection - all key tools for the practicing art
psychotherapist.
The Autumn course will encourage a personal journey through a series of guided art therapy
and explorative art making exercises. The course aims to develop your ability to reflect on your
own art making process and to enhance your understanding of the role art can play in personal
development. It will focus on aesthetic experimentation and the material qualities of paint.
Course Tutors: Andy D’Cruz (Professional Artist)
Peter Cottrill (Professional Artist and Visual Communication Lecturer)
Megan Tjasink (State Registered Art Psychotherapist)
Andy D’Cruz Studied at Bath Academy of Art. He is a practicing artist; producing and exhibiting
large scale sculpture, paintings and drawings both in the UK and internationally. He has taught
Life Drawing in a number of contexts including the London Buddhist Arts Centre and St
Saviours Church (a unique listed studio complex for artists). Andy has developed Life Drawing
as a training tool in the corporate sector and has delivered sessions for Architects Dalziel and
Pow, with Central St Martins and with the consultants of ‘Kube ’ for Channel 4 and KPMG.
Peter Cottrill has a degree in Visual Communication from Birmingham University. He is a
freelance illustrator and author/illustrator of children’s books and has worked for a variety of
publishers both here and abroad. He has worked as an artist in residence for schools and
community projects and is an experienced lecturer of art and visual communication in further
and adult education colleges.
Megan Tjasink is a state registered art psychotherapist and has experience of working with a
broad range of clients both in the NHS and in charitable organisations. Megan currently works
as the art psychotherapist in an NHS medical oncology unit and is also Clinical Manager of
Claremont’s Arts Therapies Service. Prior to her art psychotherapy training, Megan completed
a Fine Art degree at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town and worked in
community arts and as a curator in art galleries and museums.
Art materials are included, but model fees are not included in the course fee. There will be 3 life drawing sessions
and students can expect to pay about £2.00 towards the cost of the model per session. Tea and coffee will be
