Good stewards must not argue about who is the most
important. Today’s Gospel says clearly that those who
aspire to greatness must humbly serve the needs of all.
Even Jesus came not to be served, but to serve.

suffer physical, mental, and spiritual

Discipleship.”
ST. BENEDICT’S BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT
GROUP is for those grieving the death of a loved one.
The group offers an opportunity to come together to work
through the grieving process with the help and support of
others who have experienced this difficult journey. The
group meets Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the
rectory meeting room. It is free, non-denominational,
open to all. To register or for more information call Judy

CONSTITUTION CLASS—All those who want a better
understanding of our U.S. Constitution are welcome! The
program was written by the National Center for
Constitution Studies. The series continues Wednesdays,
7:00-8:00 p.m. through November 19. For more

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BEEF &
BREW EVENT Saturday, October 18
featuring Roast Beef Sandwich with
coleslaw, potato salad and desserts.
There will be various brews available.
Cost: $15.00. Tickets on sale after all
weekend Masses.
Our Parish ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
SOCIETY will be collecting food for
the Thanksgiving and Christmas Food
baskets thru Sunday, November 9th.
Bags are provided in the gathering
space for your convenience. Turkeys
will be collected from Saturday, November 8 thru Friday,
November 21. Your kind donations are greatly
appreciated.
MARIAN EVENINGTIDE Sunday, October
19 at 6:00 p.m. The experience of Lourdes
France comes to St. Benedict’s. Evening
Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary will start
the nite of prayer followed by a hymn sing of
favorite Marian songs. The evening will
conclude with a candle lite procession and rosary to our
out- door Shrine of the Blessed Mother
FAMILY LIFE COMMITTEE is
sponsoring the annual
HALLOWEEN PARTY
on
Saturday, October 25 from 6:008:00 p.m. Children of all ages are
welcome. There will be games, crafts and the annual
parade! We are looking for your support with food
donations. Please drop off wrapped candy or treats to the
social hall anytime prior to the 25th. If you would like to
donate a baked good or perishable item (such as apple
slices, carrot, etc.) these can be brought to the social hall

RCIA 2014-15
Period of Catechesis—Sept. 30 to Feb. 17
This is the longest period for the candidates. During this period we will study
and reflect on the principals of our faith
covering topics such as:
 The Creed-what we believe and why
 Mary and her role in salvation history
 The Sacraments of the Church-signs instituted by Jesus to give grace
 Moral teaching of the church
STUDENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED—We are looking
for a Senior High School student who would like to serve
as a teacher assistant in our PREP program. Class time is
6:15-7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings. If interested, please
call Father Phil at 610-856-1006.
NEW CLASS OF EM’S will start soon. Instruction will
be offered to any practicing Catholic 18 years or older
who is interested in serving as an Extra-ordinary Eucharistic Minister. You would be expected to serve one Mass per
month. Anyone interested please call Tom Henefer at 610603-9196.
YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF—All teens grades 8-12 are
welcome to bring a friend to a “Nite Out”. The event will
be outside at our parish picnic ground from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
on Saturday, October 25. There will be pumpkin fun,
food, fear factor, hayride, a bonfire and creepy stories.
Dress warm like you’re going to a football game. Friends
are welcome. Sign up at the display in the gathering space.
YOUNG ADULTS in their 20’s & 30’s are invited to a
special gathering at the WORKS called Theology on Tap.
See the flyer on our front door Bulletin Board. This is an
open series of talks and fellowship for young adults of
Berks County. Theology on Tap will be held every Monday in October. On Monday, October 20 St. Benedict’s
will organize a carpool to the event. Simply meet in front
of church by 6:30 p.m. and we will head out together.
(Father Phil will be the speaker on October 20.) All those
attending are encouraged to contact parishioner Gene
Raser at [email protected] who will help organize the
carpool.
ST. BENEDICT’S PRIME TIMERS TRIP TO SIGHT
& SOUND “MOSES” Tuesday, December 9 at 2:45 p.m.
Cost: $52.00 pp—payment due by November 11. Mail
payment fo Paul Wirkus, 346 Timber Ridge Road, Morgantown, PA 19543. Carpooling will be available from the
church. Lunch or dinner at your own convenience.
KITCHEN KAPERS, a CYO cooking competition for
elementary students in all the parishes of Berks County
will be held on November 8 at St. Catherine’s parish. Two
new categories are being added: soup and pudding. Please
contact the parish office for more details.
ALL SAINTS MASS will be celebrated at the 5:00 p.m.
Vigil Friday, October 31 and All Saints Day, Saturday,
November 1 at 9:00 a.m. (This year All Saints Day is not
a holy day of obligation.) The October 31st Sunday in
Ordinary Time will be replaced with the celebration of All
Souls Day, the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed on November 2.
CHRISTMAS GALA to support The Daughters of Divine
Zeal on their apostolate in Reading at Cabrini Academy
Pre-K and K and also for the Christian Education of the
most disadvantage children in the Philippines. You are
invited to a Christmas Gala at the Crown Plaza, Reading,
on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Deadline for tickets is
