But he is unable to free himself from his possessions, and so he goes sadly away. Does what I own keep me from following Jesus? It seems that every crackpot group with an agenda are making claims to alleged rights and are being granted their claims by the courts or by Congress. The only legitimate Constitutional right is the right to life and it is being suppressed and attacked. “It is the right of every pregnant women to give birth...and the right of every child to be born”. PRAYER LIST..... Page Three ADULT BIBLE STUDY—This 5 Week Series is entitled: “Wake Up Your Discipleship” – As a preface to the beginning of the Year of Consecrated Life, all are invited to a special Fall Scripture study on Tuesdays, Oct. 14, 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, “Wake Up Your Discipleship.” RCIA 2014-15 Period of Catechesis—Sept. 30 to Feb. 17 This is the longest period for the candidates. BENEDICT’S BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP is for those grieving the death of a loved one. The group offers an opportunity to come together to work through the grieving process with the help and support of others who have experienced this difficult journey. The group meets Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the rectory meeting room. It is free, non-denominational, open to all. CONSTITUTION CLASS—All those who want a better understanding of our U.S. Constitution are welcome! The program was written by the National Center for Constitution Studies. FAMILY LIFE COMMITTEE is sponsoring the annual HALLOWEEN PARTY on Saturday, October 25 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome. There will be games, crafts and the annual parade! Bishop Barres will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, October 16 at 4:30 p.m. at St. John’s in Shillington for all the 8th graders of St. John’s, St. Benedict’s, and St. Anthony’s. Students will have the opportunity to go to confession at the Sunday rehearsal. NEW ALTAR SERVERS—Father Phil is looking for the few, the strong, the proud, students, grades 5-12, who are willing to serve at the altar of God. Please consider being an altar server for at least one year. Altar servers typically serve one Sunday per month, and weddings and funerals as needed. To register, please sign the list at the front door of the church. Installation of new servers will take place on Sunday, October 19 at the 9:30 Mass. STUDENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED—We are looking for a Senior High School student who would like to serve as a teacher assistant in our PREP program. Class time is 6:15-7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings. If interested, please call Father Phil at 610-856-1006. MARIAN EVENINGTIDE Sunday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m. The experience of Lourdes France comes to St. Benedict’s. Evening Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary will start the nite of prayer followed by a hymn sing of favorite Marian songs. The evening will conclude with a candle lite procession and rosary to our out- door Shrine of the Blessed Mother. NEW CLASS OF EM’S will start soon. Instruction will be offered to any practicing Catholic 18 years or older who is interested in serving as an Extra-ordinary Eucharistic Minister. You would be expected to serve one Mass per month. Anyone interested please call Tom Henefer at 610603-9196. YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF—All teens grades 8-12 are welcome to bring a friend to a “Nite Out”. The event will be outside at our parish picnic ground from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. There will be pumpkin fun, food, fear factor, hayride, a bonfire and creepy stories. Dress warm like you’re going to a football game. Friends are welcome. Sign up at the display in the gathering space. YOUNG ADULTS in their 20’s & 30’s are invited to a special gathering at the WORKS called Theology on Tap. See the flyer on our front door Bulletin Board. This is an open series of talks and fellowship for young adults of Berks County. Theology on Tap will be held every Monday in October. On Mondays, October 13 & 20 St. Benedict’s will organize a carpool to the event. Simply meet in front of church by 6:30 p.m. and we will head out together. (Father Phil will be the speaker on October 20.) All those attending are encouraged to contact parishioner Gene Raser at [email protected] who will help organize the carpool.
