The Spirit of the Lord has been given to us
for He has anointed us.
He has sent us to bring the good news
to the poor,
To proclaim liberty to captives
and to the blind new sight,
To set the downtrodden free,
to proclaim the Lord’s year of favor.

CARNIVAL UPDATE
Less
than
ideal
weather
contributed to a smaller than
hoped for turnout for the Parish
Carnival.
However, overall I
think we can consider our 1st
Carnival in many years to have
been successful! Some expenses are still being paid
but initial calculations show an approximate
$15,000.00 profit! These funds are arriving just in
time; the phone systems in the school and rectory
need upgrades and replacements; the profits from
the carnival will help with these projects and some
church repairs.
Many thanks to all who, in any way, contributed to
the success of our Parish Carnival! The question
now is – do we try again next year? Seems the
answer is YES!
SAINT EUGENE SCHOOL NEWS
All are welcome to the Fall
Book
Fair
next
Sunday,
October 23, in the school
library from 10:15am -1:00pm.
Last week at Saint Eugene
School, students were engaged in many learning
activities. In grade 1, Mallory was the Star of the
Week. She created an “About Me” poster to share
her story with her classmates. Mallory also brought
in her favorite treats, KitKat bars, to share with the
class. She even gave a candy bar to each teacher,
too!
Grade 5 completed an Amusement Park project
in Social Studies class. Miss Dunbar tasked students
with creating an original map and designing their
own amusement park. Students worked using a
specific theme and chose a name for their park.
Micah used the theme, “birds,’ and named her park,
Wings of Glory. Peter used the theme “teddy bears,”
and named his park, Teddy Land. Annie used the
theme, “art,” and named her park, Twister Land.
Students enjoyed this project while learning about
maps as part of their Geography curriculum.
Grade 7 studied cells in Science class and Mr.
Christie planned a day for students to view various
cells under the microscope. After they learned to
use the microscopes, Grade 7 students got together
with Grade 3 students who were studying the same
thing. The older students helped the younger
students use the microscopes to view various cells
and objects, such as a mosquito head.

This Sunday is Mission Sunday. Please be

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS
Today’s Gospel calls all of us – not just
the apostles – to go and make disciples. If
we cannot actually go to the missions, we
can answer Jesus’ call by giving generously
of our prayers and financial resources to
support those who can and do.

MASS FOR PARENTS
WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD
Monday, October 24 at 7:00 PM.
You are invited to attend the Mass for
any parents/grandparents who have lost a
child. This will also include any child
lost in pregnancy. Refreshments will follow in the
rectory.
STEWARDSHIP
Please keep in mind that we
are a stewarding parish, i.e.
offering our Time, Talent &
Treasure to the People of
God, the Church. Please try
to become involved in one or more of our
ministries.
Also we ask you, as stewards, to be grateful for
God’s gifts to you and your family by practicing
planned giving (budget), percentage giving (being
aware of what percentage of your income you are
donating), and sacrificial giving (i.e. giving more
than just your surplus). You should have received
our Stewardship/Block mailing by now and we
ask you to respond no later than October
23 – Stewardship Sunday.
“The one who had much did not have too
much and the one who had little did not have
too little.”

OCTOBER, DEDICATED TO
PRAYING THE ROSARY
One of the most powerful
and efficacious prayers which
Holy Mother Church encourages
us to pray is the Rosary. In times
of distress, whether in our
private lives, in our country or in the world, many
of us quite naturally turn to the Blessed Mother and
the Rosary for comfort and help.
The Rosary for Life is prayed at 4:30 PM in
the church each Saturday afternoon. Please join us
whenever you can – for as long as you can. All are
invited and welcome. It takes approximately 15
minutes. Every voice matters.
HOLY SOULS’ REMEMBRANCE
Those wishing to have their
deceased
loved
ones
remembered during November,
the month of the Holy Souls,
can use the envelope from your
bi-monthly packet or pick up an envelope on the
tables at the exits of the church and write in the
names of your deceased loved ones. NO
DONATION IS REQUIRED. Drop the names in
the collection basket or at the rectory and the names
will be placed on the altar for the month of
November.

TICKLE YOUR FUNNY BONE
One day a little girl was sitting and watching her
mother do the dishes at the
kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed
that her mother had several strands
of white hair sticking out in
contrast on her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked,
“Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?”
Her mother replied, “Well, every time that you do
something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one
of my hairs turns white.”
The little girl thought about this revelation for a
while and then said, “Mommy, how come ALL of
grandma’s hairs are white?”
