How Majestic is Your Name! El Roi, The God Who Sees
When Samuel went to the house of Jesse to anoint the king to follow Saul, Samuel thought that the new king had to
be one of Jesse’s older sons because of how they looked, but God told Samuel, “The LORD does not look at the
things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” We know that David
was anointed because he was a man after God’s own heart. God not only sees the heart of people, he sees the
circumstances of their lives and looks upon them with compassion and offers strong support. El Roi sees everything;
nothing is outside of his watchful care. Thank you, Lord, for being attentive to the prayers of your people and that you
see to your people’s every need!
Edifide (formerly Ontario Christian Teachers Association) Convention
The staff is looking forward to attending the convention at Redeemer this Thursday and Friday. The theme is Entering
the Story based on Psalm 145:4-7. It is the hope of the convention committee to draw us into the stories we share as
teachers, as schools, and as a broader community. May our hearts be strengthened by the stories we share this
week especially as we seek to be part of God’s story – one where he is calling us to be a part of his perfect plan for
redemption.
Gleaning
We’re planning to glean carrots for the Ontario Christian Gleaners in the Van Luyk’s fields on Bernhardt
Street next Monday, October 27. Students need to have appropriate footwear (i.e. boots) and sturdy bags.
This date may change as weather will be a determining factor.
HMDCS Thrift Store
We are so excited to finally get started on the possibility of opening our own thrift store! We will be working with
Canadian Christian Education Foundation whose purpose and mission for thrift stores is that:
• re-Source Thrift Shops are established with the sole purpose of supporting Canadian Christian Education
locally, provincially and nationally.
• re-Source Thrift Shops are not-for-profit retail shops selling clothing, furniture, home and sporting goods,
small appliances, books and more
• re-Source Thrift Shops are operated 100% by dedicated volunteers and by donated goods for the purpose
of supporting Christian education.
• re-Source Thrift Shops are 100% Canadian with the revenue staying in Canada to disciple our future leaders
in the fear and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
We are ready to take the very first steps required, but to do this we will need a Thrift Store Committee that consists of
8-10 people. If anyone is interested in joining this committee, then please contact Maria Wilcox at
[email protected] or 905-939-7099.

signing up is Tuesday, October 28 and we’d love to have 100% participation as parents and teachers working
together is always the best way to move students forward.

Classroom News
JK/SK – We have a short week in Kindergarten. We will learn about the letter M this week. Memory Work
for Wednesday will be Psalm 8:5. It was wonderful to spend time with our grandparents on Friday! It is
always such a blessing to have them visit. Next week we may be going gleaning, so don't forget to bring
gloves, a plastic bag and some rubber boots to go into the fields with. We look forward to exploring creation in this
way! ☺ ~ Mrs. Robinson
Grade 1/2A – Our Grandparents’ Day hymn and all the other classroom activities we introduced our visitors to was a
success! This is a short three day week so you will not find a Spelling test or Memory Verse glued into your
student’s agenda. On Wednesday, I will be checking to see if all my grade 1 students know their first set of
High Frequency words and then the next set will be sent home to learn for the end of next month. I’m very
pleased with the fantastic participation in in home reading program, let’s keep it up! ~ Mrs. McKinley
Grade 2B/3 – Due to the shortened week the “Wright” Newsletter for Grade 2/3 will not be coming home today. We
will finish up CTBS testing today. We are continuing with number relationships in Math and will begin a new Science
Unit: Solids, Liquids and Gases. We will not have Spelling words or a Memory Verse to learn this week. Have a
wonderful and relaxing long weekend! ~ Mrs. Wright
Grade 4/5A – Happy Monday! Due to the short week, we won't have a Memory Verse or a new Spelling Unit. For
Spelling this week, we will practice spelling words from Unit 1-6 that we misspelled on our tests. We'll continue with
CTBS testing and with studying James and the Giant Peach. We begin a new Social Studies Unit called Why Is There
French On My Cereal Box? Please bring in some empty cereal boxes when you can. Gr. 4s will have a French test
next Tuesday on Unit 1. All Math test corrections were due today! ~ Mrs. Pranger
Grade 5B/6 – Welcome to a short week! There will not be a new Spelling list this week, which means no spellingcity.
We will be wrapping up our Math unit this week. Students would benefit from some extra practice on multiplying and
dividing with 2 and 3 digit numbers (mathfrog.ca). In Bible we will be continuing to discuss creation, fall, and
redemption. We have had some good discussions in class as we have read through and studied the first few chapters
of Genesis. Memory work for Wednesday is Exodus 19:5-6. Grade 6 will be preparing for a test on Unit 1 in
French. They will be writing the test on Tuesday, Oct 28. ~ Mrs. Schenk
Grade 7 – Welcome back to another week, everyone! Due to the fact that we only have three school days this week a
few of our regularly scheduled assignments will be on hold. There will be no Spelling or Language Power
this week. Our focus will be on Remembrance Day poems that students will be working on as of
Wednesday. This will be the feature piece in our poetry anthology assignment being given this week.
Posters from our Media Literacy are coming in today. Students have been working hard to create a poster of a product
of their choice that speaks to a particular audience. We will continue to work on History essays as students will
receive their rough drafts back today. Our quiz on the characteristics of life, cell theory, microscope functions and cell
organelles is on Wednesday, October 22. Looking forward to a great week! "Courage comes from a heart that is
convinced it is loved". Beth Moore ~ Mrs. Brickell
Grade 8 – Our students did a great job presenting radio commercials to their grandparents last week.
Volleyball tryouts will begin this week, starting today. We will have our mid-unit quiz for Unit 2 on
Wednesday, Oct. 22. Our Geography Test is scheduled for tomorrow. Students will complete lessons 16,
17, and 18 in Language Power due on Wednesday. Bible Memory work, due next Tuesday, Oct 28th, is
three verses: Acts 1:8, Luke 23:34, 43. Have a great week! ~ Mr. Geertsema
