Dave DeLuca to Present
‘Songbook’ at Library
GARWOOD — Singer Dave
DeLuca will return to the Garwood
Public Library on Thursday, November 6, at 7 p.m., with a presentation of
his “Star Spangled Songbook.”
The songbook is a musical celebration of the great American composers and lyricists whose body of
work boosted the morale of the people
living through the deprivation of the
Great Depression, who went on to
fight in World War II, and those who
stayed behind to keep the war effort
going on the home front.
Mr. DeLuca is a lifelong New
Jerseyan who has been a professional
musician since 1977. In 1989 he
placed first in the annual ASCAP
New Songwriters Competition. After
several stints playing guitar and bass
and singing in several rock and punk
groups throughout New Jersey and
New York, he became a jazz/pop
singer in his own right. In addition to
this patriotic songbook, Mr. DeLuca
has several tribute shows that he performs throughout the area.
Calvary Tabernacle
To Hold Fall Festival
CRANFORD — Calvary Tabernacle will present its Fall Festival
on Friday, October 31, from 6:30
to 8:30 p.m., which will be open to
the public. This family event will
feature games, prizes, candy and
inflatable rides. Calvary Tabernacle
is located at 69 Myrtle Street in
Cranford.

The Garwood Public Library is
located at the corner of Walnut Street
and Third Avenue, behind the Lincoln School complex. Library hours
are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through
Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on
Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
Saturdays. The library will be closed
on Tuesday, November 11, in recognition of Veterans Day.
Mountainside Seniors
Plan Christmas Party
MOUNTAINSIDE — The Senior
Citizen Club of Mountainside will
host its annual Christmas Party Luncheon on Friday, December 19, at
noon. It will be held at L’Affaire Fine
Catering, located at 1099 Route 22,
East, in Mountainside.
The luncheon menu will consist of
cheese and fruit; one glass of red or
white wine; penne vodka; a choice of
chicken, salmon or fillet for the entrée;
roasted potato; mixed vegetables;
rolls and butter, and coffee, tea and
peach melba for dessert.
The cost is $30 for members and
$32 for non-members. Checks should

Highlights of N.J. Counties

Phil Jaeger will present a program
celebrating New Jersey’s 350th birthday on Friday, November 14, for the
Westfield Historical Society.
The program will focus on historical highlights of each of New Jersey’s
21 counties. Mr. Jaeger will describe

“Surge of the Heart” Mission Monday through Wednesday, November

Mr. Leonetti is a Catholic speaker,
author and radio host. “Surge of the
Heart” Mission will include presentations, inspiring stories and humor
as attendees are invited to take a
closer look at God and how God can

Mr. Jaeger is a lifelong New Jersey
resident who has worked in two historic buildings in New York City and
currently lives in a house in which
Allen B. DuMont made significant
advances in the cathode ray tube,
which was used in televisions and
computer monitors until the early
21st century.
He presently is a trustee of the
Passaic County and Cedar Grove
Historical Societies, and is a former
member of the board of directors of
the Canal Society of New Jersey.
The presentation will begin at 7:30
p.m. in the Community Room of the
Westfield Municipal Building, located at 425 East Broad Street. Light
refreshments will be served.
This program will be free and open
to the public but a goodwill offering
of $5 per person is welcome to help

Memorial Library will present a program entitled “Learn How to Make
Your Way in the Music Industry”
featuring songwriter Kim Yarson. It
will take place on Saturday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m. Ms. Yarson will
follow her talk with a concert at
12:30 p.m.
A do-it-yourself course for independent musicians or those desirous
of becoming independent, this presentation will cover topics such as:
Is one’s music marketable?; finding
one’s own brand; website copyright;
signing up for iTunes; marketing
oneself on Facebook, Reverbnation,
Twitter, MySpace and YouTube;
Kickstarter versus Indiegogo; video
blogging/music videos; setting goals
and being realistic.
Ms. Yarson is a four-time NJ JAM
award nominee for Top Female
Songwriter, Top Female Vocalist,
and Best Album for her “Thankful”
CD. Her songs have been cut by
local artists, and she has had publishing deals in Nashville and a
recent song cut for the independent
film Acceptance.
This program will be free and
open to Westfield Memorial Library
and MURAL cardholders. MURAL

Greyhound Friends to Hold
Craft Show and Pet Expo
WESTFIELD — Greyhound
Friends of New Jersey’s (GFNJ) 18th
Annual Craft Show & Pet Expo will
return to the Westfield Armory, located at 500 Rahway Avenue,
Westfield, on Saturday and Sunday,
November 15 and 16. Hours are 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission
is $6; a $1 discount coupon is available online. Children age 12 and under may attend for free.
GFNJ’s largest fundraiser of the
year, the craft show will feature an
array of vendors offering items for
people and pets; a raffle and a bake
sale. Santa will be there to pose for
digital photos with pets and their
people. Attendees also will be able to
have lunch in “The Grey Café” and
pick up holiday gifts for the whole
family. Leashed pets are welcome.
The Craft Show & Pet Expo offers
the public an opportunity to meet and
learn about retired racing greyhounds,
and pre-approved applicants can
choose a new family member and
finalize the adoption.
Weekend presentations will in-
clude: a brief history of greyhounds
by Pat Horan on Saturday at 10 a.m.;
a presentation on Spanish Galgos and
Podencos on Saturday at 1 p.m.; and
“Ick! Is that a tick? Pests, Parasites
and Preventatives” by Ellen
Ganopoulos on Sunday at 11 a.m.
