Dear Parish Family, November is a special time to pray for our beloved dead and beseech the Lord to grant them eternal light, happiness and peace. The book of remembrance is available for you to enter the names of your beloved dead. During the entire month of November, this book will be enthroned near the Paschal candle in the Sanctuary. Next Saturday, November 1st, All Saints Day is not a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. This year we will have Mass on All Saints Day at 8:15 a.m. in the church. On Saturday evening, November 1st at 5:00 p.m. we, as a parish family, will gather for the celebration of All Souls Day Mass. We will remember and pray for those souls who have gone before us. We have had a high demand on our ministry of helping families in Rogers County who are experiencing hardships. Thanks to all of you who are bringing food and making monetary donations for the food pantry. You are making it a little easier for families in Rogers County who are experiencing hardships. Please drop your gifts of food in the food barrel located in the entry of the church. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, you may place an envelope marked “Food Pantry” in the collection basket. Thank you for your response to our annual Catholic Charities Appeal. If you have not yet made your pledge commitment for the next twelve months there are additional envelopes on the table by Christ the King Chapel. Enjoy these beautiful autumn days, Father Paul E. Eichhoff Our Lady of Guadalupe Fundraiser Tamales and Hot Sauce If you ordered Tamales please pick them up in the Parish Hall this weekend after all Masses! Reflecting on God’s Word In an article on “successful aging” (New Theology Review, November, 2010), Dr. Lawrence M. Lenoir proposes that the art of giving and receiving love is at the heart of growing old gracefully. Research shows that being in a loving relationship quiets the demons of depression and despair. So, if you want to be healthy, be loving. Jesus would agree. The rabbis of Jesus’ day argued about which was the greatest commandment of the six hundred thirteen in the Torah. When the Pharisees asked Jesus, he answered that what God wanted most from the chosen people who had been liberated from slavery and called to live in a covenantal relationship was a return of the love God showed to them. This love has two faces: loving God totally and loving one another as one loves oneself. Loving is a contagious activity. If you are loved, you tend to be loving. Paul is sounding this note when he writes to the Thessalonians about how they became imitators of him and his fellow evangelizers Timothy and Silvanus, and of the Lord himself, receiving the word and living in faith, joy, and love for each other, because they believed in God’s love for them, revealed in Christ. Our love must flow outward in compassionate generosity. The Lord called on Israel to show its love by not oppressing aliens, not wronging weak orphans and defenseless widows, and not extorting the poor by demanding interest on loans. No less is asked of those who have received the Holy Spirit and live in community with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That’s us. Love one another. James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. Living God’s Word It is difficult to love, especially when we have been hurt by others. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring you the “fire of God’s love.” Call on the Spirit to deepen your awareness of God’s love for you, shown by giving us life and the gifts of faith, hope, and love. Dear St. Cecilia Parish, We cannot say “Thank you” enough for all the support and assistance we receive from so many in bringing Retrouvaille to hurting couples. We could not do it without each and everyone of you. Our Fall 2014 Retrouvaille program is in full swing with nine couples working eagerly to heal their marriages. The messages of Retrouvaille are apparent in them and nineteen children are benefiting from their parents renewed marriages. Thank you all for your continuing support of this wonderful program. Thank you, Dan and Anita McAndrews All volunteers welcome! We will meet in the Parish Hall on Monday, October 27th at 9:30 a.m. and bake cookies. If you have any questions, please call Carol at 918-519-5868. The proceeds from Women’s Club fundraisers, which include the Christmas Cookie Sale and Monthly Bank Luncheon, provide our Parish with altar supplies for the liturgy, provide funeral dinners, welcome new members to our Parish, supply baby baskets to welcome new babies, stock food for our food pantry and supplement our Christmas Food Basket Drive. Recalling and praying for our beloved dead is a meaningful way to cherish and remain joined to those dear to us who have touched our lives. In the Church’s tradition to pray for the souls of those who have died, we recognize that they have not passed out of existence, but only out of this world. “Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” (John 11:25). Our faith and hope is to one day be united with them in heaven. Next Saturday, November 1st, at 5:00 p.m., we will gather for a special All Souls Day Mass to remember and pray for those souls who have gone on before us. Family members, friends and members of our faith community who have died in the past year will be mentioned in a special way. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Those who have lost a loved one since last All Souls Day, whether or not they were a member of St. Cecilia Parish, are encouraged to call the Parish Office at 918-341-2343 or Glenna Burnham at 918-2663487 by Wednesday, October 29th to include the names of the deceased in the service and have a candle lit in their memory. In addition, please let us know if you will be attending the reception.
