FAREWELL, MY QUEEN
(Les adieux à la reine)
Dr. Benoît Jacquot, 2012, France, 100 min. French
w/English subtitles. Rated PG | HISTORY/DRAMA
Farewell, My Queen marks the return of acclaimed
director Benoît Jacquot and brilliantly captures the
passions, debauchery, occasional glimpses of
nobility and ultimately the chaos that engulfed the
court of Marie Antoinette in the final days before the full-scale outbreak of the
Revolution. Based on the best-selling novel by Chantal Thomas, the film stars
Léa Seydoux as one of Marie's ladies-in-waiting, seemingly an innocent but
quietly working her way into her mistress's special favours, until history tosses her
fate onto a decidedly different path. With the action moving effortlessly from the
gilded drawing rooms of the nobles to the back quarters of those who serve them,
this is a period film at once accurate and sumptuous in its visual details and
modern in its emotions.

Urbanized is a feature-length documentary about the design of cities,
looking at the issues and strategies behind urban design and featuring
some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers,
builders, and thinkers. Over half the world’s population now lives in an
urban area, and 75% will call a city home by 2050. But while some cities
are experiencing explosive growth, others are shrinking. Who is allowed
to shape our cities, and how do they do it? Unlike many other fields of
design, cities aren’t created by any one specialist or expert. There are
many contributors to urban change, including ordinary citizens who can
have a great impact improving the cities in which they live. By exploring
a diverse range of urban design projects around the world, Urbanized
frames a global discussion on the future of cities.

learns that Daniel lives across the street from them, the certainty
about her domestic life is shattered. She and Daniel steal moments
throughout the steaming Toronto summer, their eroticism heightened
by their restraint. Swelteringly hot, bright, and colourful, like a bowl of
fruit, Take This Waltz leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but
uncharted question of what long-term relationships do to love, sex,
and our images of ourselves.

THE LADY
Dir. Luc Besson, 2011, France/UK, 110 min.
Not Yet Rated | BIOGRAPHY/DRAMA
The 2012 International Human Rights Film Award
Presented by The Hutton Family
The Lady is the extraordinary story of Aung
San Suu Kyi and her husband, Michael Aris.
It is also the epic story of the peaceful quest
of the woman who is at the core of Burma's democracy movement.
Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime,
their love endures until the very end. A story of devotion and human
understanding set against a backdrop of political turmoil that continues
today. The Lady was written over a period of three years by Rebecca
Frayn. Interviews with key figures in Aung San Suu Kyi's entourage
enabled her to reconstruct for the first time the true story of Burma's
national heroine.
