godparents are expected to attend a pre-baptismal formation session, which is offered on the second Sunday of the month in the Church after the 10:30 a.m. Mass as needed,. To register for session, please call parish secretary before first Friday of each month.
Marriage:
Couples planning to be married should contact the Rectory at least 6 months in advance of the
intended wedding date. Attendance at a Marriage Preparation program is required in accord with
Archdiocesan Policy.

The parish priests are happy to assist anyone who wishes to receive the anointing of the sick, or to
receive Holy Communion. Special Ministers of Holy Communion also assist in taking Holy Communion to those parishioners who are unable to get to Mass. For more information, kindly call the
Rectory.
Catholic School Policy
School-aged children of OLC attend may attend either Holy Family Regional Catholic School in
Aston or Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic School in Swarthmore. Our Parish does subsidize
Catholic education for all parishioners of OLC who are active and contributing members of the
Parish. Please note: Since our Parish School closed abruptly in June 2011, our school families began attending several Catholic elementary schools in the area. In fairness to those children currently attending the other schools, however, we will consider them “grandfathered” and continue
to subsidize their education in accordance with the policy about attendance and parish support.
Children who attend Public School are requested to register in our PREP Program beginning in
first grade to seventh grade. PREP meets on Tuesday evenings from September to May from 6:30
to 7:45p.m. There is a minimal tuition request to defray costs of the materials. No one is denied
access to PREP because of an inability to pay.

NOVEMBER 2: COMMEMERATION OF ALL SOULS
If we could assign a motto for today, the best would be : “Never Forget.” Such is so over-popularized in today’s culture that it might seem to be trite; but it best describes what the Church does today. There is a Mexican saying that we die three deaths: the first when our bodies die, the second when our bodies are lowered
into the earth out of sight, and third when our loved ones forget us. Catholics forestall that last death by seeing that the faithful dead as members of the Church, alive in Christ, and by praying for them—and asking their
prayers for us—always.
It is practically universal folk belief that the souls in Purgatory are allowed to return to earth on All Souls Day.
In Austria, they are said to wander the forests, praying for release. In Poland, they are said to visit their parish
churches at midnight, where a light can be seen because of their presence. Afterwards, they visit their families,
and to make them welcome, a door or window is left open. In many places, a place is set for the dead, a supper, or food is otherwise left out for them.
Today, is All Souls Day. While praying for the Church Suffering should be part of our daily lives, let us not let
today go by without praying for our beloved dead. Let us also be sure, on this day of all days, to send in every
name of the deceased we have not yet done so, so that they are prayed for especially today, and everyday—
especially during this month of the Holy Souls.

Last year, we celebrated 35 funerals at our Parish. Father Williams and I are always ready to console those
who grieve when a loved one dies. It is a very special part of our ministry as a Priest. On this day, we remember all of our Parishioners, whom we know, who died this past year (and others who were buried from our
church). They are:

Commemoration of All Souls
, November 2, 2014
“In November we remember.” A short rhyme but long on meaning for us on this day as well as for all the days of
this eleventh month of the year. Not with any mournful mood does our Church bid us recall “all those who have
gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” After all, some of these souls are our beloved families and friends.
For now they are part of what we traditionally call “the Church suffering,” awaiting their final destiny of life with
God forever.
We have the right to ask why they are suffering in this mysterious process we call “purgatory?” The answer is
contingent on our understanding of the punishment due our sins. We also need to remember the sublime nature
of God as the All Just One.
With each sacramental confession we make in full faith and trust, the eternal punishment our sins deserve is
wiped away by the mercy of Christ, as it comes to us in the words of absolution prayed by the priest. The United
States Catholic Catechism for Adults puts it this way:
“Those who die in the state of friendship with God but who are not fully purified and perfected are assured of
their eternal salvation. However, they must undergo a purification to obtain the perfection of love and holiness
needed to enter heaven, where they have a heart totally open to him. This process is called Purgatory.The
Church assists those in Purgatory through prayer and especially the Eucharist in their final process of purification. Offering Masses for the deceased is a most powerful way of aiding them.” (pg. 154)
Now, because their earthly lives are over, these people cannot gain any more merit to shorten the purification
process, we the members of “the Church militant” here on earth have a duty to help our sisters and brothers. All
Souls’ Day is our annual opportunity to do just that. Of course, that is not to say we have a similar obligation on
all the days of the year. It is just a fact that we forget to pray for people we never knew in life.
In thinking of the Holy Souls I know, I treasure these simple words I found on the reverse side of a funeral holy
card: “We have loved them during life. Let us not abandon them until by our prayers we have escorted them to
the throne of the Lord Jesus.”
Once upon a time a little girl whose father had just died asked her mother where her father had gone. “To be
with Jesus,” replied her mother.
A few days later, when talking to a friend, the mother said, “I am so grieved to have lost my husband.”
The little girl heard her, and remembering what her mother had told her, asked, “Mother, is a thing lost when you
know where it is?”
“No, of course not,” said her mom.
“Well, then, how can Daddy be lost when he has gone to be with Jesus?”
CONFIRMATION COUNTDOWN
Bishop Fitzgerald will administer the Sacrament of
Confirmation at our parish on Tuesday, Nov. 25 for
22 of our Parish Children and 2 adults of our Parish.
Here are some facts about Confirmation:
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.

arrange for Masses, you may:
1. Come to the Rectory beginning Monday,
November 10, during our regular business
hours to arrange for Masses. (M-F 9:30
to 4:30) or
2. Call Joan beginning Monday, November
10, at the Rectory to make arrangements.

OLC Family Bingo Night
Once again, you have made Family Bingo Night another success! The great amount of wonderful donations enabled the Social Committee to put together 55
amazing baskets (two more than last year)! We had
218 people come to play on Saturday, October 25,
2014. This made the 3rd Annual Family Bingo the
best attended and the most generously donated to
Bingo Night.
My thanks and appreciation goes out to the members
of the Social Committee. Preparation begins many
months in advance. It is their dedication and creativity that makes the event successful!
We have to thank the WAWA Corporation for the
Grand Prize WAWA Basket donation. Shakya Fields
was the winner of the final Bingo game of the night.
(If anyone would like to recycle any baskets, drop
them off at any Church entrance or to the rectory. I
will pick them up and save them for next year.)

The St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Charity
will be making food baskets for the needy of our parish
on November 16. We would appreciate your food donations so that we can supply the baskets requested. Please
