z Manoj Heer qualifies Ph.D in Dogri Civil Secretariat security reviewed STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Manoj Heer, son of Manohar Lal, resident of village SM Pura, Ramgarh, Samba, a research scholar of the Department of Dogri, Jammu University, has qualified for award of degree of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Dogri. KCS College students visit Home for Aged and Infirm STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: M.Ed students and staff of Kalamkari Centre Society (KCS) College of Education (Women) Jammu visited Home for Aged and Infirm, Amphalla, here on Monday. During the visit, students and staff interacted with the inmate senior citizens to understand their psychosocial problems. Further, the group tried to explore different types of challenges they are facing in their life. The students also distributed fruits among the senior citizens. Conduct students union polls soon: PDSU STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Members of Peoples Democratic Students Union (PDSU) held a protest at SPMR College of Commerce demanding elections to student union immediately. A large number of students, led by PDSU Vice President Mahesh Bakshi, boycotted classes and shouted slogans against college administration for not conducting the elections. Later, principal pacified the agitating students and assured them for conducting elections within a week. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: In view of the forthcoming Darbar move, which is scheduled to reopen at Jammu on 10th November 2014, security review of the Civil Secretariat Jammu was held by the security review committee under the chairmanship of Shakeel A. Beig, DIG Jammu-SambaKathua Range. The security of inner and outer periphery of Civil Secretariat Jammu was discussed. DIG Jammu said that in view of the recent disturbances on the border and forthcoming Assembly elections, the security grid of Civil Secretariat Jammu both inner and outer needs to strengthened and Jawans deployed for security duties need to be briefed regularly to remain extra vigilant round the clock. DIG Jammu also said that the security setup on the CM routes also needs to be revamped keeping in view the present security scenario due to forthcoming Assembly elections. Brahman Sabha pays tributes to Maj Somnath Sharma PVC STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Brahman Sabha Jammu and Kashmir observed the death anniversary of first Param Vir Chakar (PVC) Major Somnath Sharma in RaipurDomana here on Monday. President of sabha Shakti Dutt Sharma paid homage late Major Somnath followed by a Havan in the premises of Bawa Kailakh Dev temple. Major Sharma was born on 31st January 1923 in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh in a Brahmin family. He was known for his courage and bravery. He was one of the gallant soldiers, who laid his life for the sake of country's integrity. General Secretary S D Sabha, Parbhat Singh said that the bravery of Major Somnath Sharma helped in maintaining unity of Kashmir with India. Mahant Rohit Shastri appealed to the central and state governments for renaming Jammu Airport as Major Somanth Sharma Airport. Congress leaders tour Raipur-Domana Constituency STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Former Minister and Vice President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Mula Ram during an extensive tour to Raipur-Domana constituency addressed series of public meetings at Lale-da-Bagh, Barnai and Paloura. Addressing a public meeting, Mula Ram said that many developmental schemes started by him have been abandoned and no new scheme is started. Due to this reason the general public is facing the problem of road connectivity, electricity and drinking water, etc. "The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is misused and the constituency remained neglected", he said adding that a degree college was sanctioned for RaipurDomana but unfortunately, the representative of the Constituency did not take interest and the college could not be set up in Raipur Domana. Mula Ram said that he will bring back the Degree College to Raipur Domana if the people give him a chance to serve them again. Congress Organising Secretary Hari Singh Chib said that the Raipur-Domana Constituency is lacking behind in the field of development. "The roads are in dilapidated condition, the power supply infrastructure such as electric poles and electric wires are old and require replacement, the electric transformers requires to be upgraded and it looks the development is standstill for the last 5-6 years", he said. Chib said that massive development was taken place in Raipur Domana during the tenure of Mula Ram and appealed to the people to support Congress party for the peace, progress and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir. NPSU alleges favouritism, prejudice in JU appointments Congress gears up for Assembly polls STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: In the wake of alleged pre-fixed appointments pertaining to kith and kin of politicians and bureaucrats in the University of Jammu (JU), NPSU activists led by State President Thakur Virender Singh burnt the effigy of Governor in the University premises, here on Monday. Thakur Virender Singh lambasted the authorities of University of Jammu for indulging in malpractices related to favouritism in appointments. He urged the Governor to initiate an independent inquiry to probe into the matter within seven days or else NPSU would be forced to lodge indefinite protest on roads besides giving a call for boycotting the university till their demands are conceded. Mohinder Pal Singh Pandu lamented that these incidents in the University dampen the morale of meritorious aspirants and deteriorate the reputation of the University. Jammu Sanskriti holds Heer Biradari story telling activities congregation on Nov 6 OUR CORRESPONDENT Div Com reviews restoration works under SDRF STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu on Monday convened a meeting to review the ongoing restoration works being carried out by the various line departments in Jammu Division. The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer R&B, Chief Engineer PDD M&RE Jammu, Chief Engineer PDD Systems Operation, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Chief Engineer PMGSY and other senior officers. The chair was apprised that vital temporary restoration have been made in most of the areas and steps are afoot to carry out other restorations works. The Divisional Commissioner took a detailed review of the ongoing works under SDRF by the PDD, PHE, R&B PMGSYand other line departments and directed the concerned officers to ensure that adequate steps are taken to complete restoration works with optimal utilization of funds.He also sought details regarding the utilisation of the funds and further requirements for carrying out permanent restorations. Divisional Commissioners while reviewing the arrangements for smooth conduct of elections asked the concerned department to ensure adequate arrangements at the polling stations. Blood donation camp organised BY JIGMET DADUL LEH: The Leh unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad organised blood donation camp in Sonam Nurboo Memorial Hospital, here on Monday. President VHP Leh unit, Balbir Singh Charak said, "VHP is organising blood donation camps all over India to mark its 50 years of existence. The occasion also marked the commemorations of Kar Sevak Hindu volunteers who killed in police firing at Ayodhya in 1990". VHP Leh Chairman, Vijay Rishi thanked the participants especially the volunteers and hospital staff for their support in making the camp successful. Pushwinder Singh, a volunteer while talking to STATE TIMES said that he was donating blood for the 7th time. Singh said that he has not experienced any ailment by donating blood. STATE TIMES NEWS BISHNAH: A sustained political awareness campaign has been launched by the Congress Party in the Bishnah constituency under the leadership of Gulchain Singh Charak. In this contest, a series of public meetings were organised in different villages of the constituency exploring possibilities of immediate redressal of public grievances with regard to unemployment, providing better medicare and educational facilities, mitigating the problems of farmers regarding irrigation facilities, uninterrupted electric and drinking water, rehabilitation of the border people who have suffered during the recent floods and unprovoked firing by Pakistan. Charak held a public meeting with youth of the border belt at Arnia. A large number of youth of the border areas participated besides other prominent Congress leaders. In the largely attended meeting it was declared that if Congress Party is voted to power, efforts will be made to arrange special recruitment drive for the youth of Bishnah Constituency in different belt forces. APS Damana observes Vigilance Awareness Week STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: On the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week, Army Public School (APS) Damana organised an awareness programme on the theme 'Combating Corruption - Technology as an Enabler' to promote transparency, probity and integrity among students and staff of the school. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Rajesh Bakshi, Chief Prosecuting Officer J and K Police who spoke on the topic 'How e-Judiciary has helped in making court proceedings more transparent'. He laid emphasis on the transparency and accountability of the system with corruption free functioning. He focused on the modernisation of world with e-governance, e-mailing and e-judiciary etc. He stressed on carrying, managing and monitoring the problems in a crystal clear manner so as to deliver and receive justice. He also introduced the benefits Chief Prosecuting Officer J and K Police, Rajesh Bakshi speaking at a programme. of e-judiciary and how it has helped in making court proceedings more transparent. Various activities like seminars, slogan writing and debates were also conducted within the School premises so as to create awareness in combating corruption. A seminar was conducted on the topic 'Effectiveness of e-taxation in making the system more transparent and efficient' in which Loveneesh Kapoor, CA and Partner JRDS and Associates was the Resource Person. He delivered a lecture on the topic. The students of Class XI and XII participated in an enthusiastic manner.
