Pavithrotsavam is a religious ceremony performed for purification.
As per scriptures that guide the rituals performed in the temples, this
religious function is performed to maintain a very high level of
Divine Power for the deities. This religious program is also a
“prayaschitta” event to soften the effects of any omissions or
shortcomings that might have occurred unknowingly during the
worship and services performed to the deities during the year. The
four day religious ceremony consists of Homas, special abhishekams
to Lord Venkateshwara Mula Murthi and Utsava Murthies and
other purification rites in preparation of the Pavitras, which are
sacred threads in the form of garlands that have been specially
brought for this occasion. On Saturday November 15th, these
sanctified “Pavitras” will adorn the deities during the “Pavitra
Samarpanam” sacred ceremony thereby creating an atmosphere
charged with religious fervor and divine power to the deities. At the
conclusion of the religious ceremony on Sunday November 16th,
sponsors will receive the pavitras that were adorned on deities.
Devotees have an excellent opportunity to participate in this
religious event and receive divine blessings.
