The Little Mermaid (G)
Disney’s The Little Mermaid was the first in a series
of blockbusters that restored the venerable firm’s
reputation as the world’s premiere animatedfeature factory. The title character is a precocious
teenager named Ariel, the daughter of Triton,
king of the Sea. Against her dad’s wishes, Ariel
journeys beyond her own world to the surface,
where she falls in love with Prince Eric, a handsome
human. Foolishly, the little mermaid enters into an
agreement with evil sea witch Ursula in order to
become human herself. The wistfully melancholy
ending of the original Hans Christian Andersen
story is dispensed with in favor of a joyously happy
ending-but not before a spectacular climactic
confrontation between Ursula and Triton. The
obligatory Disney comic relief is handled by such
freshly minted characters as Sebastian the Crab,
who, courtesy of voiceover artist Samuel E. Wright, sings the film’s Oscarwinning “Under the Sea.” Other voices are provided by Broadway star
Jodi Benson (as Ariel) and such Hollywood reliables as Buddy Hackett,
Pat Carroll, Kenneth Mars, and Rene Auberjonois. The enormous boxoffice take of The Little Mermaid made possible such future Disney
cartoon ventures as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, and The
Hunchback of Notre Dame. Author: Hal Erickson

Finding Nemo (G)
3
The wizards at Pixar take us under the sea to the world of clownfish
Marlin and his son Nemo. When the defiant Nemo takes off from his
dad and gets captured by a tropical fish seeker he finds himself stuck in
a fishbowl in a dentist’s office. Marlin and his well-meaning, but wacky,
friend Dory embark on an epic journey to find his son.

Capoeira is the Afro-Brazilian martial art that takes its roots during the colonial era of Brazil.
Capoeira combines music, dance, acrobatics, play and martial elements into a dynamic
ritual fight. A great body, strong lean muscles, and unshakeable confidence are just some of
the results you’ll see training capoeira. It’s a great workout, but that’s just the beginning. You
get to learn another culture, language, and the rich history of Capoeira becoming part of
the continuing tradition. Capoeira is also a lot of fun!

Home decorating doesn’t have to be expensive. One of the most challenging issues with
owning a home is that you can’t always afford how expensive your décor taste is! There
are ways to cut corners, and still get fantastic ideas for your home. Make quick and easy
decorative items for the home using materials you may already own. Items made include
headboards, enamel colored vases, console wall shelf, decorative pillows, and wall art.
Materials fee of $20 is paid directly to the instructor (some materials will be brought in
from home (example: cardboard box and fabric of choice for pillows and headboard) and
remaining the instructor will provide).

Capoeira is the Afro-Brazilian martial art that takes its roots during the colonial era of
Brazil. Capoeira combines music, dance, acrobatics, play and martial elements into a
dynamic ritual fight. A great body, strong lean muscles, and unshakeable confidence are
just some of the results you’ll see training capoeira. Capoeira classes offer a high-energy
workout that melts fat and works every muscle in your body. It’s a great workout, but
that’s just the beginning. You get to learn another culture, language, and the rich history
of Capoeira becoming part of the continuing tradition. Capoeira is also a lot of fun!
Actually enjoying your workout is key to getting the most out of it and sticking with it.
This isn’t just a group of people standing around kicking a bag or dancing to music. You’re
constantly learning new things and challenging yourself in new and exciting ways. You’ll

How to Kill a Good Program
Nothing kills a good program quicker than having
everyone wait until the last minute to register. It takes
a certain number of participants to justify offering a
course, and if that minimum isn’t reached, the course
gets canceled. Signing up on the day of the activity
won’t resurrect it, so please...REGISTER EARLY.
