ANSWER TO LAST WEEK’S QUESTION: Advent
is rapidly approaching, beginning with the Vigil Mass on
November 29th. What is the purpose of Advent? The
purpose of Advent is two-fold: joyful anticipation for the
coming celebration of the Incarnation of Christ (when God
took on human flesh to dwell among us) and a time of
preparation to “get our spiritual houses in order.”
This
weekend we also celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, when
we recognize God’s reign in heaven and on earth.
ADVENT MISSION AT ST. DOMINIC’S
There will be an Advent Mission at St.
Dominic’s from December 9-11, 2014 starting
each day at 7:00 pm with Mass. This Mission
is to help us all slow down and focus on the
depth, beauty and meaning of our preparation
for the birth of Jesus. The Mission will be led
by Fr. Larry Brennan, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis on assignment in the Diocese
of Colorado Springs. Fr. Brennan will help us
all deepen our Advent experience as we prepare for Christmas.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF
CCD STUDENTS
Please do not park in the Day Chapel parking lot to drop off and
pick up your children from classes. These parking places are
reserved for the elderly and handicapped. We have several elderly that go to the 11 am Mass that are in need of a spot that is
closer to the church. Thank you for thinking of others when
parking.

POINSETTIAS FOR CHRISTMAS
We are again asking our parishioners to
bring a potted Poinsettia plant to put in the
church during Christmas in honor of a
loved one. If you do, please bring them to
the old church between Dec. 15th and Dec.
19th. We could use both red and white

To Honor the Immaculate Conception
Please join the Franciscans on Monday, December
8th, at 12:00 Noon at the Church for a Holy Hour to
honor the Immaculate Conception
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CELEBRATION
Come and join us Friday, December 12th, to participate in a
Mass and feast in honor of our Blessed Lady of Guadalupe.
We will begin with the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at
6:00 pm and a Rosary at 6:30 pm followed by a
bilingual Mass at 7:00 pm. There will be a blessing
of images at the end of the Mass. If interested in
participating in the choir, playing an instrument,
volunteering for that day, please contact Laura
Gennitti at 390-2968 or Dalia Crouch at 439-8894.
There will be hot chocolate and Mexican sweet
bread in the Narthex after Mass. Everyone is

Identity Theft & Fraud Presentation
A representative from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation
will provide tips and strategies to stay safe from criminals who
would try to steal your holiday spirit, your money and even
your identity: Thursday, Dec. 4 from 1:00-2:00 pm at the
Fountain Valley Senior Center. It is presented by the Security
Public Library & the Fountain Valley Senior Center.
It is that time again — the Christmas Giving Tree will be set up
in the Narthex on Monday, November 24th. We have tags for
the Walt Fortman Agency (kids ages 12-18); the Wounded
Warrior Program (we have 15 families this year); the Life
Support Center in conjunction with the Diocese; and our own
Food Pantry. If you can help, please take one of the tags from
the tree, buy the gift and attach the gift tag to the package.
Then please place the gift under the Giving Tree by
December 10 for the Walt Fortman gifts and all other gifts
by Wednesday, December 17. All gifts will be distr ibuted
to the proper agency by December 19th.

PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
If you ever doubt God’s love for you, look at Him
suffering on the cross for you. Look at Him hiding
Himself in the Sacred Host, so you can believe. He
loves you with an everlasting love and waits for you
to come to Him in Adoration. He also waits for you
to join Him someday in Heaven. He has a place for
you there, very close to Him. Right now, there is a
day and an hour for you in Adoration!

Have you ever felt an a rac on to a public ministry in the Church? We invite you
to come to one of the following informa on nights to see if the permanent diaconate might be what God is calling you to. What is this evening for? It’s to learn
about the diaconate. It’s to learn about discernment. It’s to connect with those
involved with deacon forma on. It’s to meet others like you, thinking about the
diaconate. It’s for your family to find out what this call is all about.
What do I need to do?
First of all, make sure -- if you are married -- that you have talked about this with
your wife and family. Second, make sure that you have a conversation with your
pastor, since he will be an important part of the discernment and formation process.
And, finally, please make plans to attend one of the information nights listed below. You and your wife (if you are married) are welcome to come and ask questions regarding the process. Each evening is scheduled from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at
the following locations throughout the Diocese.

Ponderings of a Parochial Vicar
My Dear Parishioners, It has been 5 weeks since I spoke to you regarding the financial status of St. Dominic Parish. I
thought it only right that you should have an update of our status and several of you have asked where the money goes.
To this second question, I have created the pie chart below for your reference. Please note that nowhere on the pie chart
is there a section for savings or a “rainy day” fund, or a section for future plans. We use every dollar for current expenses. Please also realize that this chart is based on a weekly collection of $25,245.00 each week. This really is the absolute minimum! Additionally, we still have to make up the debts we have not paid, for instance the $60,000+ we owe the
Diocese in back payments.
So what has changed since I last spoke with you? Here is the breakdown for the last 5 weeks:
Weekend of 10/18-19: $25,000-$16,216.95=8,783.05 SHORTFALL
Weekend of 10/25-26: $25,000-$18,433.22=6,566.78 SHORTFALL
Weekend of 11/1-2:
$25,000-$18,955.41=6,044.59 SHORTFALL
Weekend of 11/8-9:
$25,000-$19,857.99=5,142.01 SHORTFALL
Weekend of 11/15-16: $25,000-$14,245.34=10,754.66 SHORTFALL
The current annual shortfall for this parish is $76,415. This cannot continue.
Since my financial talk to you, only 2 families have signed up for bank-to-bank tithing and 3 families have changed their
bank-to-bank amount.
Here are the weekly dollar amounts averaged over the last 12 months, which correspond to the pie chart below:

We cannot continue with these shortfalls! We must increase the amount of the collection otherwise, we will be forced to
make some drastic changes.
This is not one person’s problem. We must all help out a little bit. Little amounts have great impact. Here is an example:
If 1,400 families each gave an additional $5 each week, that would increase our weekly amount by $7,000. Please, my
brothers and sisters, this is your parish. We must all share the load. Please help us serve you and work to continue
God’s work in our community.
