Unity of all secular forces is the need of the hour to save the country from communal forces,” said Prakash Karat. "If UPA leaders, during their days in Government, left the expatriate Indian population underwhelmed, is it to be presumed that this should be true for others?" Jaitley said in a blog. On Sunday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid had suggested that people were taken from India to cheer and shout slogans at PM Modi's events abroad. Khurshid referenced the An excited crowd waits for the Modi Express, November 16 Prime Minister's address to the Indian diaspora in Nay Pyi Taw three days ago and questioned how a crowd of 20,000 people gathered at the Women making false rape allegations need to be punished: Delhi Court Press Trust of India NEW DELHI, Nov 17: Women making false rape allegation to settle personal scores need to be prosecuted and punished, a Delhi court has observed, saying such matters cause intense misery and humiliation to the accused which continues even after acquittal in the case. Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat while acquitting two Delhi youth from the charges of gang rape, directed the court staff to lodge a complaint against the woman with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate for making false allegations. "Time has come to curb such tendency by directing the prosecution and punishment of the women making patently false allegation of rape to settle personal scores," the judge said. Noting that the accused undergo emotional distress during the trial, the court said, "it is high time that court should shoulder some kind of responsibility and duty towards the persons, who are made to face the trial for false rape charges." "It is very difficult, nay impossible, to restore the lost honour and dignity of a rape accused after his acquittal from the court. They are never compensated for the emotional distress, humiliation and pecuniary damage suffered by them," it said. According to prosecution, the woman in this case had lodged a complaint with Dwarka South police station alleging that two youths have gang raped her after offering her cold drink laced with vodka. During the trial, the woman however retracted from her statements and denied that she was sexually assaulted by the accused. She also confessed in the court having written a letter to the SHO of Dwarka South police station on the very next day of lodging of complaint and the arrest of the accused saying that she had lodged a false against the accused and no sexual assault had taken place. "From the aforesaid deposition of the prosecutrix (woman) it is abundantly clear that she had made a false complaint of intoxication, gang rape and physical assault against the two accused as she wanted to teach them a lesson for the reason that they had refused to drop her at her residence when she was heavily drunk," the court said. "Resultantly, both the accused are liable to be acquitted and are hereby acquitted as such," the court said. Myanmarese capital where streets are generally empty. Describing it as a "fascinating claim", Jaitley shot back, without taking names: "I can understand the plight of Salman and his party colleagues particularly when PM Modi gets a larger crowd in Sydney than what Salman's leader gets in India." Modi is on a three-nation tour of Myanmar, Australia and Fiji. He addressed some 16,000 Indians today at the Allphones Arena at Sydney's Olympic Park in an event that has been compared to his "rock star welcome" at New York's Madison Square Garden in September. Khurshid had also scoffed at the Madison Square Garden event, saying, "In USA, organising 20,000 people and making them shout slogans is not a big deal." Secularism a compelling necessity for country: Sonia Gandhi Press Trust of India NEW DELHI, Nov 17: Seeking to reassert Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said secularism is a compelling necessity for a country as diverse as India. She also said that there can be no India without secularism and it remains more than an ideal. Addressing an international conference on the 125th birth anniversary of Nehru here, Gandhi said secularism was an "article of faith" for the first Prime Minister of the country. "There can be no Indianness, no India without secularism....secularism was 'Godman' Rampal fails to appear before Pakistan snubs India HC, taken to undisclosed place over bulletproof car Press Trust of India HARYANA, Nov 17: Controversial 'godman' Rampal was on Monday whisked away from his ashram here to an undisclosed destination for "treatment", his supporters claimed hours after he again failed to appear before Punjab and Haryana high court and sought more time citing illhealth. With his followers resisting his arrest, Rampal did not appear in the high court today, the deadline set for his appearance in a contempt case, with his counsel saying he was "unwell". Hours later, ashram spokesman Raj Kapoor claimed that 63-year-old Rampal was taken to a hospital at an undisclosed place for medical treatment. Declining to disclose the name of the hospital or the city, he said, "We were facing problem in treating him as the administration had stopped all supplies, including of medicines, to the ashram." "We were left with no option but to shift him to a hospital at an undisclosed place." The Haryana government, meanwhile, told the two-judge HC bench that it is taking steps to comply with the court order but it has to take every step carefully as a number of women and children were present in the his ashram in Hisar district here. The court had reserved its verdict till afternoon. The high court had last Monday pulled up the Haryana government for failing to produce the self-styled 'godman', against whom a non-bailable warrant was issued recently in a contempt case. It had set a deadline of today for his production. Rampal's counsel S K Garg told the bench, comprising Justices M Jeyapaul and Darshan Singh, that the 'godman' was "unwell" and not in a position to travel from Barwala to here. "He is unwell.... We are not avoiding court appearance. He has been appearing on past occasions. Give us some time, once he feels better, he will appear," the counsel told the bench. On behalf of the state government, home secretary and the DGP appeared before the court. Advocate General Baldev Raj Mahajan told the court that the state was taking steps to comply with the court order. He pleaded that since a number of women and children were present at the Satlok Ashram in Barwala, the police and administration had to take every step carefully. With regard to the issue of cancellation of Rampal's bail in the 2006 murder case, the bench posted the matter for tomorrow asking the defence counsel to file their reply by then. A large number of his supporters, including women and children, remained on guard inside and outside the Ashram around which security personnel, including those of the central Para military forces have also been deployed in strength. Earlier in the morning, his spokesman said that Rampal remained "unwell" and would not travel to Chandigarh. GOVERNMENT OF MANIPUR SAWOMBUNG NOTICE Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rejected the use of a bulletproof car provided by rival India for next week's summit of South Asian leaders in Kathmandu, a Nepalese official said on Monday. Sharif "will be bringing his own car... all other vehicles for (visiting) heads of countries have come from India", said foreign ministry spokesman Khaga Nath Adhikari. Adhikari denied the move was a snub specifically targeted at India, whose tense ties with Pakistan have worsened since October over some of the worst cross-border firing in years. "It's not that they have refused to use an Indian car... when the US president travels, he also brings his own car, it's not an issue," Adhikari told media. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit will see the leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan meet in Kathmandu on November 26 and 27. Recent exchanges of fire across the de facto border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir, have killed at least 20 civilians and forced thousands to flee their homes. The nuclear-armed neighbours, who have fought two wars over Kashmir, have traded blame for the upsurge in firing and shelling which started on October 6. India called off peace talks in August after Pakistan first consulted Kashmiri separatists, a move some saw as a sign of a tougher stance by Modi's new NDA Government. Office of the KHANGKHUI PHUNGCHAM (KHULLEN) VILLAGE Village Authority ó Ukhrul District, Manipur - 795142 17th November, 2014 To, The Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Subject: - For outright cancellation of Expedition Alfresco at Harva Khangai, Kaphung Sir, An organisation by this name FEELS along with Village Authority of Khangkhui Phungdhar (Khunou) are going to undertake Expedition on the hillock cited in the subject. A Xerox copy of the programme is being enclosed for your verification. That, the said hillock is part of Khangkhui Phungcham (Khullen) and under the jurisdiction of Khangkhui Phungcham (Khullen) Village Authority and not Khangkhui Phungdhar (Khunou) as mentioned in the programme enclosed. This deliberate overture of FEELS and Khangkhui Phungdhar Village Authority is being outrightly rejected. Harva Khangai is a hillock where no trees grows except grass and wits (Grassland) falls under the jurisdiction of Khangkhui Phungcham (Khullen) Village. The programme mention it to belong to Khangkhui Khullen. And if the programme is allowed to take place, it can easily lead to confusion and misunderstanding to the two villages and we feel it must be cancelled. The Congress President recalled that Nehru had once warned that he would fight to his last breath of his life to protect secularism if it comes under attack. In an opaque reference to BJP, she said knowledge about Nehru's life and work has weakened in recent years, drowned out by misrepresentation and distortion. Referring to the country's first Prime Minister's efforts to build a modern India, she said he worked on developing a strong public sector, "a potent symbol of change and modernisation." She said Nehru's achievements continue to bear fruits. "He moulded a new intellectual outlook, a new social sensibility, a new sense of Indianess," she said. She also recalled his role in the field of science and technology.
