BPHS Students Learn About Careers Through Career Spotlight Series BPHS Guidance Counselors Kristen Michaels and Lorri Smith recruited over 30 professionals to come and speak with BPHS students in small groups about their careers, during the second annual Career Spotlight Series that is running through December. Rotary Students Of The Month The Rotary Club of Bethel Park named BPHS seniors Kaitlyn and Maura Ellsworth the October Students of the Month and Tabby Swanson the November Student of the Month. Kaitlyn and Maura recruited students from the Senior Ways and Means and National Honor Society to plan and execute a neighborhood Halloween Party for Joey Fabus, a BP student who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Gabby is serving as the President of the BPHS Interact Club, which is coordinating monthly community service projects during the school year. BPHS Students Raise $1,000 For Breast Cancer Research The students on the Principals Advisory Council for Students (PACS) sold pink bandanas for $1 each for the BPHS Football “Pink Out” Game in October and raised $1,000 for breast cancer research. They donated the money to the St. Clair Hospital Foundation’s Center for Breast Care. Fall Sports Season Was A Success! BOYS SOCCER • WPIAL Quarterfinalist GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY • The JV Team are the WPIAL JV Champions. • The Varsity Team finished in Fourth Place at the WPIAL Championships. • Dani Hinish and Karissa Coffield qualified to compete in the State Championships. GIRLS TENNIS • Qualified for the WPIAL Team Championships. • Jessica Fanning finished in Fourth Place in the Section Singles Tournament and qualified to compete in the WPIAL Singles Championships. BOYS GOLF • Justin Hyrb finished in Fifth Place at the Section Championships and qualified to compete in the WPIAL Semifinals. WPIAL PLAYOFF QUALIFIERS • Boys Cross Country • Girls Soccer • Girls Volleyball • Football WPIAL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD Bethel Park High School received the 2013-2014 WPIAL Sportsmanship Award for the third time since the 2007-2008 school year. IMS Students Remember Active Soldiers And Veterans On Veterans Day Independence Middle School Student Council Students and the students in Bring A Smile To The Service welcomed 18 active soldiers and veterans to the IMS cafeteria on Veterans Day for coffee and cookies and a short program to thank everyone for their service to our country. The program included poems and patriotic music and photos of the soldiers. BP Super Readers Win William Penn Fourth Grade Battle Of The Books William Penn Fourth Graders Allie Cline, Nolan Plassio, Isabella Testa and Jeon Varghese were the winners of this year’s William Penn Fourth Grade Battle of the Books. This year, 24 students on six teams competed by reading six assigned books beforehand and preparing to answer questions about what they read. This year’s books were Clementine, Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing, James And The Giant Peach, Bunnicula, Jake Drake Bully Buster and Flora & Ulysses. Franklin Students Filmed For Safety Public Service Announcement Franklin students Paul Baronak, Alexandra Dixon, Gabriella Gealey and Kylie Taylor were filmed providing safety tips on walking to school and riding a school bus for a public service announcement filmed by Allstate Insurance. The PSAs will appear on The Almanac’s website and the BPSD website. Franklin students also participated in a safety assembly conducted by Bethel Park Police Officer Tom Rigatti. The Bethel Park School District Where Futures Begin The Mission of the Bethel Park School District is to lead an educational partnership with the community, maintaining an environment that challenges all students to reach their potential as lifelong learners and responsible members of society.
