2016 School Improvements & Safety Upgrades Bond
In February 2016, Bethel voters will be
asked to approve a School Improvements
and Safety Upgrades bond. This measure
aims to relieve overcrowding and allows
for the ongoing repair and maintenance of
safe and healthy schools, districtwide.
BOND: This proposal replaces or renovates Evergreen and Naches Trail Elementary
Schools, Cedarcrest Middle School, and Bethel, Challenger and Graham-Kapowsin
High Schools, constructs one elementary school, and purchases land to support
growing enrollment. Camas Prairie, Centennial, Elk Plain, Graham, Kapowsin, Roy and
Rocky Ridge Elementary Schools and Bethel and Frontier Middle Schools will receive
heating, ventilation and air conditioning replacements, emergency generators and/
or building modifications. The bond replaces deteriorating portables, repairs roofs,
upgrades technology infrastructure, security and alarm/fire sprinkler systems and
expands earthquake, sidewalk, traffic safety and energy-efficiency programs.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS: Funding is included to construct a new aquatic center
and a community sports park near Bethel High School. Synthetic turf, LED lighting
and new tracks will be installed at Graham-Kapowsin and Spanaway Lake high
schools to support student athletic programs districtwide.
ESTIMATED COSTS: The Board of Directors is seeking a $236,700,000 bond to pay
for these improvements. The cost to a $200,000 homeowner is about $12.33 per

Bethel High / Community Sports Park
Located behind the Bethel Learning Center, the Bethel High
Community Sports Park is being developed in response to
a growing need for athletics and recreational space in the
community. This will be a multi-sport facility. Synthetic turf
fields would be striped to allow for maximum flexibility
and to accommodate programs such as fastpitch, baseball,
football, soccer, lacrosse, etc.
