The Christmas Store
2014
Thursday, December 18
This Christmas season affords
us a great opportunity to share
our love with a child in need.
Our Christmas Store provides
gifts for children in our community who would
otherwise not have Christmas presents. We
are purchasing gifts for 189 children and we need
your help to provide for the remaining children.
You
can
sign
up
on-line
at
our
www.tabernacle.org or at the sign up tables
outside the gym and Worship Center. We are in
need of gently used items for our shopping
section. You can bring those anytime during
church office hours or on Wednesday evenings or
Sunday morning. Monetary donations are greatly
appreciated. Please mark your offering for the
“Christmas Store”. Thank you so much for your
generous and compassionate hearts!
Big and Little
By Ron Grizzle
In the few Sundays I have left with Tabernacle, we will move into the gospels where we read and learn about so
many of the events and people surrounding the birth of Jesus – Matthew, Luke, and John. For reasons known only to
God and to the author of the Gospel of Mark, that writer chose not to record any material related to the birth of Jesus.
However, as we know, the Gospel of Mark begins with Jesus’ baptism by John and Jesus’ adult ministry.
On Sunday, December 7, I will concentrate on Luke 1:67-80. You may wish to read those verses in preparation for
the sermon, which is entitled A Big Man. Those verses call us to pay attention to the words of an important messenger
of God, Zechariah. I think you will agree with my assessment that Zechariah is indeed a big man with a big message!
The text for December 14 will also be from Luke. That sermon is entitled The Little People and will be based on
Luke 2:8-20. These very well-known verses put the spotlight (or perhaps I should say starlight) on the first persons to
whom God revealed the news of the birth of His Son.
The Sunday before Christmas, December 21, the emphasis will be on Matthew 2:1-12, and the sermon title will be
Following the Christmas Star. This passage is perhaps more often preached after Christmas, but I will zero in on it on
this particular Sunday for reasons I think are important.
I am also to lead you in worship on Christmas Eve. The service will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is being planned to help
you, your family, and, in fact, our entire community, to experience the joy of our Savior’s birth. Please plan to be part
of this extraordinary time of worship – it will be worth the time and effort!
