This Sunday is the
church festival
As we continue our interesting series of sessions about Bible
celebrating the baptism
verses that are on people's minds this week we look at the
story of Nathanael's less than enthusiastic impression of Jesus of Jesus. Mark's gospel
tells us Jesus was
in John 1. Nathanael was not willing to believe Jesus was
baptized in the Jordan
anything special because he came from the small town of
River by John the
Nazareth. "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" he

discuss how people come to faith in Jesus Christ. We meet in God poured out his Holy

supply any food items, please sign up on the donation sheet in
the gathering area. High school families, please sign up on
the High School Youth bulletin board to bring a batch of chili.

very convenient for moms of confirmation kids!).
Our first meetings will be Tuesday, January 13 or Wednesday,
January 14. You won't have to read the book by then- we'll take
some time to get to know one another, and probably have some
treats. We will divide the book up into manageable sections, so
don't panic at the thought of having to read a book every month.

Have you Been Looking for a Way
to Strengthen your
Faith at Home?
We have just the thing to help! Imagine a home
where every person feels loved, valued and
heard. Imagine a family that seeks God's
wisdom, will and Word together. Imagine an
intimate, affectionate community where every
night is an experience of caring, sharing, comfort
and peace.
You can make this beautiful picture a reality in
your home. But it won't happen by accident, you
need a plan! Holding Your Family Together is a workable,
powerful plan based on a simple nightly routine: Share, Read,
Talk, Pray, Bless. This is the FAITH5, and it has transformed
families around the world. No matter your child's age or your
family's unique situation, the FAITH5 can work for you. Inside
you'll find everything you need to get your family into a nightly
habit that will open your hearts to each other and to God.
Does this sound like an impossible dream? It's not, and you can
start . . . tonight.
The Faith 5
1. Sharing highs and lows of the day
2. Reading a key verse of scripture from Sunday's
preaching/teaching
3. Talking about how the highs and lows relate to the Scripture
and asking -- What is God saying to my situation?
4. Praying for one another's highs and lows
5. Blessing one another before turning out the lights on the day
Beginning January 18, Grace will be offering a class that will
teach this simple but powerful way to grow in faith, prayer, and
strengthen ties to God and your family (family can be any kind,
too- doesn't need to include kids!).
The class is called "Holding Your Family Together." It will be held
during the Adult Education time in Library, beginning January
18 and going for 6 weeks. You will want to purchase the "Holding
Your Family Together" book for $12. If this is problem, we can
get you a free copy. It's a VERY easy-to-read, entertaining book!
Email Pastor Heidi if you can attend, or sign up on the bulletin
board. We really hope you will make time to be there. You won't
regret it!
Poinsettia Plant Pick Up
Thanks to all who provided Poinsettia Plants for
the Christmas Services! They were a wonderful
addition to our Christmas cheer! Now, those
who donated a plant may take them home. They
may be taken from the worship center at any time, and if they are
no longer there when you come, they will be held in the church
kitchen through this Sunday, January 11th. There are plastic
bags and ribbons to tie them in the kitchen for your use - so you
can protect them during their ride home.
Junior Youth Group Lock In on January 16
The next event for our seventh and eighth grade JYG is an
overnight lock in at church on Friday, January 16th. We start
the fun at 7:30 p.m. The evening will be filled with all sorts of
group games, food and a time to talk about the importance of
friends. The cost is $6.00. Friends are welcome to come. We'll
wrap things up at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.

A Special Adult Education Opportunity!
What's the story behind
those Great Spirituals?
As part of my requirements for seminary, I am focusing this
year on Christian Education, at all levels. As part of this
expectation and my pastoral formation, I will be holding a two
session adult education opportunity in February. In honor of
Black History Month, I will be leading a study of African
American Spirituals. These two very interactive sessions will
give us the chance to learn a bit about some of our favorite
songs, their history, and sing a bit together too. You may even
learn about some not so well known spirituals and a tidbit or
two about who wrote them and why. We will gather
after Thursday evening worship on February 19th and 26th.
On these two Thursday evenings in February we will be
gathering in the worship center, listen to some great songs and
even sing a bit together. Please join me!

Volunteers Urgently Needed
Due to an increase in the number of individuals who are in
need of home delivered meals, volunteers are needed to
deliver noontime meals to homebound elderly in the Mequon &
Thiensville areas. You may deliver alone, as a couple, with a
friend or with your children. If you are able to share an hour a
month of your time, please contact Mary at the Ozaukee
County Aging Services Department at 238-8120 or 284-8120.
One Can Plan
Our ongoing mission is collecting nonperishable goods for
Ozaukee Family Sharing and All People's Church in
Milwaukee. Since summer we have delivered a very large
supply of food to APC and to Family Sharing. The yellow
barrel is located in the corner of the Gathering Area under the
Outreach Opportunity Bulletin Board.
