There are many kinds of sicknesses and
sufferings that we face in our lives.
When we think of sickness we usually
think of physical illness. What about
mental illness, worry and stress? Don’t
we say I am worried sick over this or
that? There are numerous things that
we face that cause us to suffer. James
goes on to say that those who are sick
or suffering should, “Call the church
leaders together to pray and anoint
you with oil in the name of Jesus.
Believing prayer will heal you, and
Jesus will put you on your feet.” (MSG
James 5:15)
On October 28th one of our scripture
readings for that day is about a man
name Bartimaeus, who also was
suffering. He was blind. He cried out
to Jesus for mercy and Jesus healed
him. During our service on Sunday,
October 28th we are going to cry out,
like Bartimaeus, to Jesus for healing
for the various sufferings in our mist.
During our worship time that Sunday
we will have a service of healing.
We will be sharing about the power
that Jesus has to heal the sufferings
that you experience. Those amongst
us, who desire, will be invited to
come forward with all who desire to
be with them. No one will be asked
to reveal what it is that they desire
to be healed of, that is between
them and God. But we as a church
will lay hands on them and pray for
them, anointing them with oil,
claiming what James 5 says,
“Believing prayer will heal you.”
Please be in prayer for this service
over the weeks to come. Pray that
God will anoint this service and that
those who are suffering will find
healing. If you know of someone
that is in need of healing of any kind
(physical, mental, or spiritual illness)
let them know about this service, so
that they too might be present.
Come on that Sunday morning
believing that Jesus can heal you
too.

PURPOSE: The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a
community of women whose purpose is to know God, and to experience
freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative and
supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation
in the global ministries of the church.
Our two Circles strive to live out this
Purpose in many ways throughout the
year. For recognition in doing so, at
our District Annual meeting last month
Central was presented with four
Reading Certificates, Social Action, Gold
Mission, and 5-Star Awards. Thanks to
all of you who made these awards
possible. In addition, on Laity Sunday a
Special Mission Recognition will be
presented to one of our members.
On September 17, 1940 at Central
Church one hundred and forty three
women were present to sign the new
charter of the Woman’s Society of
Christian Service. In 1972 the name
was changed to the United Methodist
Women. Today our numbers are fewer
but we are still organized for mission—
striving to put faith, hope, and love into
action.
Come join us October 9th at 10:00. a.m. for the
Rebekah Circle at Suzanne Peeler’s home or at 6:30
that evening at Connie Davis’s for a pot luck dinner
and program. Lastly, the Crop Walk will take place
October 14, see me for details.

Do you feel an obligation to
tithe? Many people give
their tithes out of a sense of
duty or as a debt owed to
God rather than out of a true
understanding of tithing:
giving thanks for what they
have been given.
God asks that we give our
gifts where we are spiritually
fed. Many of us receiving this
newsletter have chosen
Central United Methodist
Church
to
be
God's
storehouse for our lives. As
we begin this season of
harvest and thanksgiving and
prepare for next year's needs
through our giving campaign,
please remember the church

and be generous to God as
He has been generous to us.
Instead of trying to calculate
how much money the church
needs to sustain itself, let us
try to think how we can
reflect our gratitude in our
gifts. Further thoughts about
stewardship will be shared
throughout the month of
October.
