Beginner Band Concert – Manchester Elementary School
A beginner band concert will be held at Manchester Elementary School on Tuesday, February 3, from 7
to 7:45 p.m. in the gymnasium. Students in fourth and fifth grades will be performing their first concert
for family members and the community.

Winter Formal – Manchester Valley High School
Manchester Valley High School will be hosting its annual winter formal with a twist on the classic cool
weather theme. The event, which will be held on Saturday, February 7, will be a night of dancing and
excitement at the shores of an island luau. Favors will be given out at the dance and there may even be
a limbo contest! More information to come as the date gets closer. Aloha!

One School, One Book – Manchester Elementary School
During the month of February, Manchester Elementary School is participating in “One School, One
Book”, a program that promotes literature at home and the school environment through the use of one
common book. The school will be reading The World According to Humphrey. Each student and
classroom teacher will receive a copy of the book, as well as a schedule for reading during the month.
In order to engage the students and their families, an evening event entitled “A Dinner Date with
Humphrey” will be held on Tuesday, February 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening will include dinner and a
display of school projects and student work. A guest reader will entertain the students and rotations
throughout the classrooms will take place to support the book.

Adoption of Board of Education’s Proposed FY 16 Operating Budget during Board

Board Meeting
The Board of Education of Carroll County will meet on Wednesday, February 11, at 4:00 p.m. in the
Charles I. Ecker Boardroom at the Board of Education offices, located at 125 North Court Street in
Westminster. Agenda items will include the adoption of the FY16 Operating Budget. In addition, the
Board will begin discussions on make-up days for inclement weather. There will be time for citizen
participation at this meeting. The public is encouraged to attend.
Citizen participation will be held following administrative items and presentations. Citizens who wish to
address the Board during Citizen Participation are encouraged to check the agenda prior to the meeting
to determine what time the public comment portion of the meeting will begin. The agenda and back-up
materials for the meeting can be found by going to the school system’s website at www.carrollk12.org
and clicking on “Online Meeting Agenda” at the bottom of the page.

String Extravaganza – Northwest Region Schools
String students of the northwest region schools will be participating in the 13th annual String
Extravaganza in the auditorium at Francis Scott Key High School on Tuesday, February 17. The purpose is
to promote string instrument performance and to encourage current students to continue to participate
in school orchestra throughout their public school years. This Suzuki-style performance begins with the
FSK High School orchestra. Middle and elementary school students will be added as the performance
continues. The evening ends with a mass orchestra of 100 or more musicians in grades 4-12. The concert
begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

31 Bag Bingo – Francis Scott Key High School
A 31 Bag Bingo will be held at Francis Scott Key High School on Saturday, February 21. All bags are
themed and filled with great contents. Themes include Ravens, Orioles, MD Terrapins, gardening,
cooking, scrapbooking, golf, car essentials, office, dogs, gift wrap, pool toys, movies, technology, FSK
Graduation (includes 2 reserved tickets to graduation and a reserved parking pass), FSK Prom (includes 2
free FSK Prom tickets), and FSK Spirit (includes 2 free FSK spring sports passes). There will also be a
special 31 bag containing hundreds of dollars of gift cards and gift certificates to local restaurants and
businesses. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and bingo will begin at 7 p.m. The event will include food, a 50/50
drawing, door prizes, and numerous vendors. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. All
proceeds from the event will help fund AP Exam scholarships at the high school. For more information,

CCPS Biz Challenge
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Startup Local, and the Carroll County Public School System
have teamed up for the second year to host the CCPS Biz Challenge. Again this year, Carroll County high
school students have the opportunity to formulate and present their new business ideas for a chance to
win a $5,000 Startup Scholarship. Finalists will be selected from each Carroll County high school to
present their ideas in front of a live audience and panel of judges at Winters Mill High School the
evening of Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Applications are due by March 1. It is free to apply. For more
