Over 440 victims of human trafficking, including children, have been identified in Orange County due to proactive investigations and community referrals. HUMAN TRAFFICKING SUMMIT For School-Based Professionals Thursday, January 29, 2015 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Learn About: - Changes in national and state law regarding human trafficking The signs of labor and sex trafficking and how to report crimes against children How technology has changed the nature of human trafficking crimes The conditions of victimization and minors’ fear of reporting and speaking up Strategies for prevention and early intervention of at risk children and youth targeted by trafficking recruiters The school's role in providing an environment for healthy relationships and youth safety Available services for victims and community resources Local human trafficking survivors’ stories Featured Speakers: Jenee’ Littrell - Director of Guidance and Wellness, Grossmont Union HS District Sandra Morgan, PhD, RN - Director of Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women and Justice Lita Mercado - Program Director, Community Service Programs Juan Reveles - Sergeant, Anaheim Police Department Bradley Schoenleben - Deputy District Attorney, Orange County District Attorney's Office Daniel Varon - Deputy District Attorney, Orange County District Attorney's Office Rachel Thomas and Oree - Human Trafficking Survivors The summit's purpose is to inform educators and other school-based professionals on human trafficking, how to identify it, and how to report something suspicious. The summit will feature human trafficking survivors and experts from the OC Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF), including the Anaheim Police Department, Community Service Programs, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Orange County cases involving minors will be shared along with the OCHTTF victim-centered approach of working with victims, criminal prosecution, and addressing the effects of violent crimes such as human trafficking on youth psychological development and behavior.
