2. How to use this Guide
This Course Enrolment Guide 2015 provides you with information on when and where
the units available for study in this program(s) will be offered in 2015.
Enrolling in units for 2015
1. Read Section 3. ‘Program Information’ for information on course structure and
unit sequence. Take note of any prerequisite or co-requisite requirements before
selecting particular units.
• A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in
a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the prerequisites
for a unit prior to enrolling into that unit.
• A co-requisite is a requirement that must be met by having already passed or
being concurrently enrolled in an associated unit in order to be able to enrol in the
stipulated unit.
If you wish to enrol into a unit for which you have not met the prerequisite or corequisite requirements, please obtain approval from your Course Coordinator.
2. Refer to the unit listings in Section 4. ‘Units Offered in 2015’ to select your units.
Take note of the study period in which units are offered.
3. You must refer to Administration & Enrolment on the ACU website
(http://students.acu.edu.au/332297 ) for information on how to complete your
enrolment via Student Connect. ‘Administration & Enrolment’ also provides
detailed information on managing your studies.
4. Log on to Student Connect and enroll (http://students.acu.edu.au/136953).
Student Connect is a web interface allowing students to complete their ACU
enrolment online.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Failure to enroll or re-enroll before the published due dates for re-enrolment on the
ACU website (http://students.acu.edu.au/381148 ) may result in late fee penalties.
Even if you are unsure of what units you need to enroll in, please ensure that you
enroll or re-enroll in at least one unit before the due date. Enrolling in at least
one unit by the due date will enable you to add further units, or amend your
enrolment via Student Connect up until the final dates published in the Critical
Dates for Variation of Enrolment on the ACU website

3. Program Information
The Bachelor of Accounting and Finance is a specialist three year full-time (or part-time
equivalent) degree offering a comprehensive course of learning in the theory and
applications of Accounting and Finance.
The course involves a core in Accounting, allowing graduates to be simultaneously
recognised as Accounting and Finance professionals. The aim of the degree is to
provide a comprehensive undergraduate corporate accounting education that will
prepare you for financial management roles in private enterprise, government, the notfor-profit sector and trans-national corporations.
Unlike pure accounting degrees, the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance offers a
broader understanding of financial instruments, institutions, markets and systems. It
involves the study of financial decision-making under uncertainty, which is applicable to
banking, financial consulting and planning, funds management, merchant banking and
treasury.
This course has been designed in accordance with the accreditation requirements of
the Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPAA), Institute of Chartered
Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), the training
standards in the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Regulatory
Guide 146, and the professional recognition requirements of finance sector peak
bodies such as the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance
(ANZIIF) and the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA).

The Core Curriculum
The Australian Catholic University Core Curriculum has been designed to focus on
aspects of the University’s identity and mission. The units emphasise critical judgment,
clear expression, ethical decision-making and concern for others, as individuals and as
a community.

These units build explicitly on the University Core units and all students in the Bachelor
of Accounting and Finance are required to complete at least two Program Core units
from the following list:

One Community Engagement unit:
This unit reinforces the university’s core curriculum units by enabling students to
undertake a volunteer experience in the community and gain an appreciation of issues
associated with justice and equity. All students in the Bachelor of Accounting and
Finance are required to complete the following Community Engagement Unit:
BIPX100 Professional Experience A
There are additional Professional Experience Units - worth 10 credit points each - these
are elective units and may be taken by students after completing 120 credit points.
These Units have a professional focus: students learn in the workplace, develop
professionalism and business competencies within their disciplinary area. One of the
many advantages for students undertaking the Professional Experience Program is
gaining insight into professional career opportunities available within their chosen field.

Notice for students who wish to exit from a course of study
other than that for which they are enrolled
(a)
if you intend to continue with your current course, you are not permitted to exit
with a lower level award, however you may request a letter from your Course
Coordinator confirming that you have satisfied the requirements for the relevant
lower award;
(b)
if you do in fact exit with a lower level award and subsequently wish to resume
your studies in the higher level course, you will be required to reapply for
admission to that course in order to resume your studies.

placements at various times during semester. Students should take special
care to note the week pattern of tutorials when they allocate in tutorial direct
to ensure that they are choosing the correct stream for their course

You need to repeat a UNCC unit due to a previous fail grade.
•
You are unable to complete a UNCC unit during the standard semester it
is offered.
•
You plan to enrol in an advertised international option specific to the Core.

The Faculty of Law and Business reserves the right to withdraw a unit from offering or
to change this pattern according to student demand and staff availability. In such cases
students will be notified and given the opportunity to register in an alternative unit.
