~SPHERES Group - Math Pentathlon After School Club – pick up
at 3:10 pm
~Grade 5 Girls on the Run – pick up at 3:45 pm
~Group 2 Violin – pick up at 4:00 pm
~Primary Grades K-2 / Star Gram Movie Night for students who
redeemed Stargrams and returned a signed permission slip in
advance. Pick up promptly from school at 4:00 pm.
Thursday, 2/5:
Istep + Testing begins in March. It’s important that your student is well rested
and in school for State testing. ISTEP+ stands for Indiana Statewide Testing for
Educational Progress-Plus. ISTEP+ is an annual testing regimen designed to
encourage students to master basic language and science skills, particularly
reading, writing and mathematics. All Stout Field students in grades 3rd through
6th take the ISTEP+ each spring, with language and math covered in each test.
Fourth and sixth grade students also take a science test while fifth grade takes a
social studies test.

Some Suggested Ways you can help your child during ISTEP+ testing:
Friday, 2/6:
Please mark these dates on your calendar so you and your student are aware. Please try and schedule doctor’s
appointments after school during this special testing period. Make sure your child is well rested for testing.
Grades 3 & 4 / Star Gram Lynhurst Trip for students who
redeemed Stargrams and returned a signed permission slip in
advance. Students will be bussed to Lynhurst. Families Pick up
promptly from Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center at 5:30 pm.

Keep track of testing dates. Test dates: Monday, 3/2 through Wednesday, 3/11.
#2 Review testing rules. Try to explain to your child why the teacher seems to be so strict for the test. The State
requires that questions on the test cannot be explained and tests have time limits. This is necessary to make sure this test
is given the same way to all students across the State of Indiana. In order for a standardized test like ISTEP+ to work, it
must be given consistently the same to all students.
#3 Build confidence and don’t create unrealistic expectations. You want your child to walk into
the classroom feeling good about his/her abilities…..your positive encouragement can help him/her feel confident. For
example, if your child is not great in math simply encourage him or her to do his/her best. Telling him/her it will be a
breeze is not helpful. You want your child to be optimistic but at the same time also realistic.

The ISTEP+ test is very important, but your child will have many more opportunities to show his/her

Annual Spaghetti Supper & Silent Auction
Friday, March 13th – Ben Davis High School

The Wayne Township Education Foundation’s annual
Spaghetti Supper and Silent Auction will be held on
Friday, March 13th. This fun-filled community evening
will include food, entertainment and a lively auction!
Dinner is $5 for adults and $4 for students and will be
served from 5-7 p.m. The Silent Auction will take
place during dinner and will include such items as gift
cards to restaurants and stores, sports and theatre
tickets, and much more.
Again this year, you can participate in the bidding
online leading up to the live auction that will be held
during the event. The Silent Auction opens for online
bidding on February 8th at 8:00a.m. To visit the online
bidding site and see the current list of items log on to
www.biddingforgood.com/wtef. New items are
being added to the online catalog daily. Check
back often to see what's new. Feel free to place a
watch on your favorites, so that you'll know as soon
as bidding begins.
The Wayne Township Education Foundation’s goal is
to raise $12,000.00 from the event to support
teachers and students in the Wayne Township School
District. All proceeds from the event benefit teacher
and student programming that brings the curriculum
to life in MSD Wayne Township.

Winter is upon us and school districts across Indiana
have already faced delaying or canceling school on
a particular day because of snow, ice, or other poor
weather conditions. Here are some ways the MSD of

Box Tops for Education
Just a reminder from your Stout Field PTO: We collect
Box Tops for Education and also Campbell’s labels
year round. Keep clipping away! It’s helpful if you
can cut them out before sending them in. We only
need the Box tops or Labels for Education portion,
not the entire box. Your efforts make a difference.
West District YMCA Before &
After School Programs
Students that attend Stout Field have the option to attend
After Care at school provided by the West Direct YMCA for
a nominal fee. The YMCA programs give children support
to become successful adults and incorporate the values of
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The YMCA is unique because the program fee is based on
total household income. The YMCA is able to offer a sliding
fee scale thanks to the generous donors whose
contributions support the YMCA mission of being open and
accessible to all. Curriculum includes 8 core content areas:
Arts and Humanities; Character Development; Health,
Wellness and Fitness; Homework Support; Literacy; Science
and
Technology;
Service
Learning;
and
Social

Stout Field News
Super Sonics Stories 3, which is a collection of stories
written and illustrated by Stout Field students, is now
in print! The student book submissions have been
reviewed and the following Stout Field students had
their very own stories published and illustrated. A
copy is in our Media Center for all of our students to
enjoy.

the search bar. This will take you right to the three
different publications we’ve had published. Special
