February 23, 2015 or until filled.
Salary:
Salary based on experience
Job Type:
Full-Time
Location:
Los Angeles, California
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Los Angeles faces a severe lack of affordable housing. This shortage contributes to
high rates of rent-burdened households, overcrowding, higher risks of homelessness,
and a lower quality of life. The preservation of existing rent-stabilized housing and
increased production of market rate and mixed-income housing are keys to continued
overall affordability. The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development works closely with
the Housing and Community Investment Department (HCID), the Department of City
Planning (DCP), and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) to
encourage the production, preservation, and rehabilitation of housing citywide.
The Housing Policy Specialist works in the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development as
part of the Planning and Housing Policy Team. The team is responsible for creating
strategies to develop more sustainable and livable communities and works closely with
other Mayor teams including Sustainability, Transportation, and Homelessness Policy.
The Housing Policy Specialist will work on developing and reviewing affordable housing
policy initiatives as well as related financing, public housing, and planning initiatives.


Coordinate and leverage public and private resources to preserve and increase
the supply of affordable housing. Work with partners to identify and secure
sources of funding at Federal, State, and local levels. Work with HCID and

*This is an exempt, at-will position. The individual appointed to this position will not accrue any civil
service tenure, contractual employment rights, or due process rights. The incumbent may be removed,
without any finding of cause, by the hiring authority.

development policies. Analyze and develop recommendations on crossdepartmental policies.
