INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
SKILLS
GIVE YOUR CAREER A KICK START WITH INTER
PERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS
27 March 2015, AIMA
INTRODUCTION
One of the significant challenges we face on a day-to-day basis is working with others, often from
different cultures and with different personalities. The skill of inter personal communication is what
makes one an edge to one’s professional expertise.
Interpersonal communication is truly an art, but is based on certain scientific principles as well. The
science of clear communication, active listening, persuasion and collaboration is easy to teach as
concepts and constructs but hard to learn without active practise. Effective communication is
situational. The "right" thing to say or do in one situation may backfire in another. What works with one
person doesn't work with another as people are different-with different personalities and socio-cultural
backgrounds.
For inter personal effectiveness you need to master both the science and the art of interpersonal
communication, applying the principles of emotional intelligence situationally .

METHODOLOGY
Each participant would start with a self-assessment prior to the workshop that identifies her/his
communication style. Through the various activities, games and role plays during the workshop, the
participants get to know themselves, how they act (or react) in various situations, and the areas where
they are effective or ineffective as communicators. The gaps or the skill enhancement areas are
addressed by relating these with the scientifically researched concepts of interpersonal communication.
The art of inter personal communication is developed by coaching them to become more effective as
communication artists.
The interpersonal communication workshop would be fun, entertaining, practical, challenging and highly
effective in bringing about a change in behaviour. A lot of personal stories would be shared and used as
illustrations of the principles of interpersonal effectiveness. The practical use of the Johari Window and
Transactional Analysis would be key take away from this workshop.
