Sheet 7. Placement of DECALS
DISCOVERY
from the movie
2001: A Space Odyssey
These decals are printed on very thin and fragile paper. You
are encouraged to apply a protective clear-coat; still, be
careful not to scratch the surface.
Soak them in warm water for 10 to 15 seconds. Remove. Wait
10 to 15 seconds. Pre-wet the surface (with a setting
solution, if you so desire). Slide (or push) the decal from its
backing paper. Do not peel or pull. Place the decal. Position
carefully. Blot dry.
If you have any questions regarding these decals, or if you
need more reference photos, or if you want a custom sheet
made, check out my site at:

Please study the photos and proceed carefully. Let’s start with the bridge.

STARBOARD WALLS (above and below)
PORT SEAT LOOKING AFT(above)
PORT WALLS (above)
The individual control
panels in front of
each seat are visible
in these two photos
(left and right).
Decals 14, 15, 16, 17,
18, 19, and 20 are for
the bridge. Decal 14
is the front control
panel. Decals 15 are
the individual control
panels. Decals 16 are
the aft wall, ceiling,
and front wall. Decals
17 are the starboard
wall sections, and 18
are the port wall
sections, while 19 is
the starboard rear
wall and 20 is the port rear wall.
REAR WALL BEHIND SEATS (above)
Now that the bridge is done, move to the corridor aft of
the bridge. That corridor is visible in these four photos.
Decals 9, 10, 11, and 12 are for the corridor. Decal 9 is the
control on the aft wall, beside the door, 10 is the port wall,
11 is the control panel on the port wall, and 12 is the
starboard wall.
Decal 21 is the airlock door controls. There are two copies,
one for the door and one for the hull beside the door.
EXTERNAL AIRLOCK MARKINGS (below)
No other external markings are visible, however, there are some
blueprints which suggest decal 1 is placed on top of the command
sphere. This is optional.
Now use decal 8 to make the tool & parts corridor. This is also
optional; the corridor would have to be built and a door would have
to be cut out in the rear wall of the pod bay. The corridor is an
octagonal tube and the doorway is a tall hexagon (see decal 13).
TOOL & PARTS CORRIDOR (below and right)
POD BAY (5 photos above and right)
Decal 13 makes the entire rear bulkhead of the Pod Bay.
Decals 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 make the rest of the Pod Bay. Decal 2 is
the control panel (above left); the front, sides, and rear light
panel are all printed flat but can be folded around the resin
piece. Decal 3 is the floor, and decal 4 (three parts) is the
raised section of the floor in front of each pod. Decal 6 (three
copies) is the floor below each pod. Decal 5 (three copies) is
placed on the forward hull to the left of each pod bay door.
Decals for other rooms (right and below right) are possible, if
there is enough interest. Please let me know.
