OEYC NEPEAN-CARLETON COMMUNIQUÉ FEBRUARY 2015
OEYC NEPEAN-CARLETON COMMUNIQUÉ FEBRUARY 2015 VISION UPDATES & REMINDERS NEW PLAYGROUP! We will be offering our first quarterly evening playgroup on Wednesday, February 25th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. For more information, please call us at 613-825-5990 or [email protected] **INDOOR SHOES – MAKE THEM A PART OF YOUR ROUTINE We would just like to remind all of our participants that indoor shoes are necessary during playgroups and workshops. Parents and/or caregivers must bring indoor shoes for both themselves AND their children. This is a safety concern for two reasons: everyone must be wearing shoes in case of a fire drill; also, clean indoor shoes keep the mud, salt and snow off of the playroom floor so your children aren’t touching it, then putting their hands in their mouths. We appreciate your cooperation! Maman Kangourou and Dancing Mama (Salsa Babies Licensee in Ottawa) are very happy to announce a new partnership through the "Babies Helping Babies" campaign. The goal of this campaign is to provide families in need with a gently used baby carrier, so they can have access to the many benefits of baby wearing. “Many programs, one heart – nurturing children and responding to the needs of families in our community.” * “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” ~Jim Valvano The Nepean - Carleton Ontario Early Years Centre (OEYC) has joined this initiative and has kindly offered its facility to serve as a collection hub for the gently used baby carriers. If you wish to donate a baby carrier, please call us at 613-825-5990 or drop off at the OEYC at 1099 Longfields Drive, Nepean, K2J 5L2. We deeply appreciate your contribution and would only ask that the carriers are clean and with all pieces in place, to ensure the health and safety of babies. If you are in need of a baby carrier, please contact one of the OEYC staff. 1099 Longfields Drive, Nepean ON, K2J 5L2 / 613.825.5990 / www.cityviewcentre.ca / [email protected] LOOKING AHEAD WORKSHOPS (MAIN SITE) Tuesday, February 24th 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. S’amuser en hiver (pour les enfants de 3 à 5 ans avec une adult(e)) In French only. Cognition – 4.9 Sorting (Toddlers– 14 months -3 years) Interactions Use simple open-ended questions that invite responses that can be actions, e.g., “What else can you add to the basket of flowers?” Indicators of the Skill • sorting and labeling objects by characteristics, such as hard and soft or big and small • matching items by function (e.g., spoon with bowl) Open-ended questions allow the toddler to give a personally meaningful response, and when he can respond with actions, it allows him to communicate his thinking even when he may not use his expressive language.
