Treasurer— Chris Rogge - I have been with the Kansas PowerSchool User Group for the past 14 out of 15 years since it was formed. As the Executive Director of the organization, my duties include the financial aspect of the organization and working with the committee in putting on the Annual and Fall conference each year. I have been a presenter every year at our Annual Conference. Outside of the organization I work for the Abilene School District as a Technology Assistant where I work with PowerSchool training teachers, staff and administration about the many functions of PowerSchool. My experience with PowerSchool spans over the past 15 years. Bonnie Saranko— Bonnie has served on the KSPUG Board for two years; last year as an Advisor and this year as a full member of the Board. If you would like to be a presenter just let me know. We rely on your knowledge of PowerSchool to share with the organization through these sessions. Session Descriptions Monday—AM Session 1 Photo Management This session will cover the basics of creating a MAP file for the Photographer base on grade level or Home Room teacher. Demonstrations of resizing the photos, making zip files, making the map file and importing the photos as a batch for both students and teachers. We will also demonstrate ways to match files with missing ID’s. Object Reports - We will go over the different parts of Object Reports showing how to create a new report, adjust an existing object report, and import object reports from other users. Using the Enhanced Parent Portal by PDS - This customization, created by Power Data Solutions, greatly increases the amount of information that can be displayed and gathered on the public portal. Graduation progress, demographic updates, honor roll and discipline log are a few of the pages you can add to the portal. Besides the new pages, this customization gives you the ability to hide or display any page on the public portal. Custom Pages 101-this session is for those who are brand new to custom pages in PS or have very little experience with them. The custom page structure in PS will be covered, as well as the two basic ways to customize pages (server vs CPM), as well as basic customization information and when using the Language Translation Toolkit may be a better alternative. Customization resources will also be covered. Fee Management - Need help with understanding the Fee Module? Monday—AM Session 2 Implementing Standards This session will cover how to enter standards manually, importing standards, and setting up a Conversion Scale. You will need District Level Access to setup standards. Scheduling - Over view of using PowerScheduler and Scheduling Q & A Custom Pages 102 - this session is for those who have some experience with customizing pages but are looking to learn more. Things covered will include built-in user interface examples, plugins, PS specific html coding, and common errors and how to fix them. Security, Groups & Page Permissions - If you haven't setup security groups yet, you will see how to create groups for your admin, secretaries and tech helpers. Once you setup these groups, you will be able to drill down and restrict access to certain pages for a group. You will also see something that many schools forget to change and it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up! Monday—AM Session 3 Honor Roll, GPA & Class Rank - Are you confused by all the GPA formulas and setups, or are you just not sure if things are right? This session will go through the setups and show ways to validate the calculations. Creating Page Fragments - Page fragments are a relatively new customization feature that allows you to leave the built-in page untouched, but add some customizations to it using another file called a page fragment. The main advantage to this approach is when you upgrade PS, your pages don't become outdated and cause issues because an older, customized version of the page is still in place. This session will cover the basics of creating a page fragment and provide several examples of their use. Single Sign-on - This session will cover the process of implementing Single Sign On for your parents. We will take a look at preparing your parents, training your staff for troubleshooting, and then selecting a date to implement Single Sign On. We will discuss what worked and did not work, and troubleshooting tips that I found helpful when helping parents and staff through the implementation. Monday—PM Session 1 Custom Fields & Screens built into PowerSchool - This session covers how to add custom fields to PS and how to use the built-in custom screen maker to make screens for use in PowerSchool. Database extensions replaces the current custom field approach in PowerSchool for those who decide to use it, plus it also allows one to create new tables in PowerSchool. How to migrate fields, set up new fields, and set up new tables will be covered. Backups & Test Servers - This session will show you how to install a test server or multiple test servers for your district in a step-by-step process from building up a new server to installing PowerSchool. Test servers can be useful for testing new versions of PowerSchool, and more. Don’t have an extra server to install it on? No problem. We will touch on other options that may be available to you. One of those options, running it on your own laptop, external enclosure or thumb drive.
