This year the department has initiated a new framework for all teachers in NSW. All Principals and NSW Teachers Federation representatives are being trained this term. Mrs Snell and I will be attending the mandatory training on Tuesday. International Connection This week our stage 3 students are receiving a visit from international students as part of the Asian studies program we are involved in with Bomaderry High School. We are always excited to have these combined learning opportunities. Student Facilities Upgrade Thanks to the Leadership of the Student Representative Council (SRC) I am pleased to inform parents that last term we coordinated a meeting between the SRC and our Department Facilities Manager. Since the meeting, at the request of students, some of the annual funds for maintenance were redirected to refurbish the student toilet areas. The work was completed over the holidays with the block being repainted and minor works completed. The feedback from the students has been very positive. This Sporting Life Term 2 sports are starting to feature strongly as we get into the full swing of Primary School Sports Association knockout competitions and athletics championships. Best of luck to all of our students competing in the district Cross Country Carnival (which has now been postponed due to the wet weather to Friday 15th May). We also wish our senior and junior rugby league teams all the best in their matches this week; the senior boys take on Gerringong in the PSSA knockout and then back up with the junior boys in the finals of the Macgregor and Wishart Shield on Thursday. Our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are also in training ready for our first round matches. AFL Development Our stage 1 students participated in a wonderful gala day focused on skill development last week. Apparently the tackle bag drill was most popular with both boys and girls. Thanks to the AFL development team and teachers for coordinating a great day. NAPLAN Next Week A reminder to parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 that the NAPLAN tests are to be held next week. Berry Public School – Welcome Everyone Our Community: a culture of care, respect and enrichment. 2016 Kindergarten Enrolments It may seem early but we are starting to accept Kindergarten Enrolments for 2016. If you know of any students that are interested in enrolling at our school next year, please inform their parents of the website and information below. To find out about enrolling into school, please go to: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/gotoschool/enrolment/index.php On the right hand side you will see: Application to enrol in a NSW Public School (English PDF 244kb) Click on this and the enrolment form will be displayed for you to print. Please be aware that with the application form the school will require a copy of: • the birth certificate • immunisation certificate • proof of address (paperwork that relates to the property) • court orders Some of these items we understand are not readily available, therefore the application to enrol can be handed in now and any related documents before the end of November is acceptable. Every year 1,800 public school children attend a safe haven next to Curl Curl beach at no cost to their parents or carers. Children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their overall well-being.
