CHELLASTON JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
Welcome Back
We hope that all our families enjoyed the Easter
holidays. Another busy half term lies ahead
including our Year 5 Parents’ Lunches, Year 6 SATs
Assessment Week, Y6 PGL Parents’ meeting and
our PTFA Spring Discos.
School Production
Once again, we were treated to what has now
become a spectacular annual production from CJS
pupils, with several lovely performances of ‘Once
on this Island.’ Two evening performances were
given for parents on 23rd & 24th March, as well as
ones for the whole school, Year 2 pupils from
Chellaston Infants, and pupils from Homefields
Primary School as well as members of Chellaston
W.I. The professionalism and the exceptionally
high standard of acting and singing produced two
very entertaining evenings.
Special thanks go to Miss Fogg for all her hard work
in putting this production together, to Mrs R
Chapman for rehearsal support, to Mr B Jones for
technical support, to Mrs Royston-Webb for
costume design and props, to Mr Macdonald for
the excellent scenery and to all staff for their help
behind the scenes.
Many thanks to parents for your support with
bringing children to rehearsals, helping them to
learn their lines and getting their costumes ready.
Most of all, thank you to the children who took part
in the performances – you were all brilliant!

MEXICO QUIZ NIGHT
Many thanks to those of you who attended our
Mexican Quiz Night last Friday.
Our Fayre (Summer Fayre!) is now being held on
Saturday, 13th June 1.00-4.00pm and the PTFA are
busy organising the events for this day. If any
parents would like to get involved (the more, the
merrier!), please contact the [email protected]
and leave your contact details.
Before then, we will be holding our Spring Discos
on Thursday, 21st May – more details shortly.
It was a fantastic evening with a great turn out of
people who all enjoyed taking part and being
challenged by some searching questions from
quizmaster, Mr B (what a Beast he was!). The half
time supper of sausage/fish cake and chips was
very welcome too!!!
Well done to all the teams, especially our winners,
“Universally challenged”. More importantly, we
raised a tremendous £260 for The Mexican
Wallacea Conservation Project.
Thank you all

Table Tennis for Juniors
Term Dates 2015-2016
Derby and District Table Tennis Association are
embarking on an exciting new venture for young
people in the Derby area. They are proposing to
start a junior table tennis league for players up to
age 16. They expect the venue to be in central
Derby and half day sessions will take place monthly
at weekends between the months of September to
March.
Our terms dates for 2015-2016 will be confirmed
very soon. However, we can confirm that Monday
7th September and Tuesday 8th September will be
INSET Days and pupils will therefore start back on
Wednesday, 9th September.
They are inviting individuals or teams to participate
within a league structure comprising 2-person
teams of mixed abilities. This is a great opportunity
for young people to begin playing or to develop
their skills in a sport that is at the very least good
fun and for some could be much more. It’s a sport
Can we ask that parents do not book any holidays
that impact on the start of the new academic year
as these will not be authorised. Thank you.
As always we plan to co-ordinate term dates and
INSET Days with Chellaston Infant School.
