the 2nd Hip Hop Green Dinner - Community Food & Justice Coalition
Dear Friend, We are so excited to be able to tell you that we are producing the 2nd Hip Hop Green Dinner here in Oakland on April 24th 2015 at the Oakland Peace Center from 5:30-8:30pm with our community partners, Urban Farmacy, Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, Oakland Veg Week, SoS Juice, Destinednation Media, Earth Amplified, DJ Cavem, Food Empowerment Project, and our 501c3 fiscal sponsor, Planting Justice. 200 Oakland youth will receive a free vegan meal and be able to sample plant-based products, while being entertained and educated by Stic. Man from Dead Prez, as well as other hip-hop luminaries, food justice advocates, and health professionals. THE FILM We started hosting the Hip Hop Green dinners in 2009 as a result of our research for our upcoming documentary film project. In the film “Pursuit of a Green Planet” Keith Tucker will become a living experiment as he makes the radical transition from your average American diet and lifestyle to one that is truly vegan, organic, and green. This is truly the “hip-hop super-size me” film! Starting with a full medical profile of his current health condition, he will work with a team of the best medical and health professionals at every stage of the process as he cleanses his body, transitions to a vegan diet, and conditions his body to operate at peak performance. The film will document the biological, physical, psychological and emotional transitions of the process. Can he make it? How hard will it be? GREEN DINNERS Though the film will be inspiring, we knew that hosting a live event with tasty food would take it to the next level. Through the various dinners we have set up around the country, including at Kipp Middle School in West Oakland in 2010 serving 150 youth, we found out first hand that exposing people to a culturally relevant plant-based diet can really change someone’s life. Our goal is to educate youth about the importance of health and smart food choices. VEG FEST & Green Dinner in Oakland This year’s Hip-Hop Green Dinner is a part of the First Annual Oakland VegFest, which will take place at the beautiful Lake Merritt amphitheater on April 25, 2015 from 11am to 5pm. The idea is that youth will become inspired from our event and continue their exploration by attending the VegFest. We expect approximately 2,000 local residents in attendance to experience the many benefits of plant-based foods and celebrate the amazing veg options that Oakland has to offer, while enjoying a collaborative, positive, and inclusive space for all people. We need your help today! We must raise $6000.00 to cover the remaining expense for this event. Our deadline is April, 10th 2015. We are asking you to make a tax-deductible donation for as much as you can and encourage your family, friends, and associates to support us as well. All checks should be made out to ‘Planting Justice’ with ‘Hip-Hop Green Dinner’ on the notation line. The health of our youth and everyone in our community is one of the most important issues today. We hope you feel the same. In Health, AshEL Eldridge III 415-845-9296 [email protected] Oakland Hip Hop Green Dinner www.hiphopisgreen.com
