Waxahachie Senior Activity Center
DECEMBER 2015
The Mission Statement of the WSAC is to help meet the physical, emotional,
Volume 15, Issue 12
social, nutritional and educational needs for area senior citizens.
BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR
Be a Santa to a Senior is a way for caring people to express Christmas cheer and goodwill to
older adults in Ellis County, some of whom are less fortunate, lonely and nearly forgotten.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. The goal is to provide Christmas gifts to the 1000 seniors on the Ellis County Meals-onWheels routes and surrounding assisted living facilities. For some of these seniors, this gift
will be their only Christmas gift.
2. A Christmas tree will be located in the main lobby of the Waxahachie Senior Center
November 20 - December 16, featuring male and female gift tags with their respective gift
options.
3. Shoppers pick up a Senior Angel, buy noted items and return them unwrapped to the
Senior Center no later than Friday, December 18, 2:00 pm, along with the Angel gift tag
attached.
4. Volunteers will wrap the gifts on Monday, December 21, 5:00-8:00 pm, at the Waxahachie
Senior Center located at 122 Park Hills Drive, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
5. Volunteers will deliver the gifts on Tuesday, December 22, 9:00 am — noon.
GIFT IDEAS: lotion, baby shampoo, magnifying glass, blankets and throws, clip on book lights, tissues and wet wipes,
kitchen and bath towels, flashlight and batteries, notecards
and USPS stamps, large print books and puzzles, socks with
rubber soles
Volunteers Needed for the Ellis County Toy Run
The Gryphons Motorcycle Club has asked for our help again to prepare, serve and clean up the hot dog lunch. There will be 500-700
riders coming in for lunch from the long toy ride. If you can help,
this is a great cause. This event will be held on Sunday, December
13, 2015 at Sokol Hall in Ennis from 9 AM—Noon. Thanks, Jeanee
MOW will be providing meals for WSAC members 60 years of age and older every Monday and Friday. A donation
is requested to defray food costs. Donations are requested, but not mandatory. All participants must also fill out
applications provided by MOW and review with office staff for completion.
Please sign in at the front desk computer on the Monday lunch date to
secure a meal. This is mandatory.
We encourage you to sign up for the Mondays and Fridays in the month you plan
on having lunch. You may call in your reservation or sign up in advance at WSC
for your meal to be available. Deadline to sign up is every Friday by 10 AM . For
members under 60 years of age, you will be required to purchase the $4.00 lunch
ticket and register for lunch. For any questions regarding this program please
see Jeanee Smiles. Members’ support is crucial to the success of this program.

December Zumba News
You probably know it is important to drink water
during and after a workout, but do you know
why? Water is important because it helps regulate our body temperature, cushions our joints,
carries oxygen and nutrients to our cells, moistens oxygen for breathing, cushions our vital organs, and removes waste. So drink up and keep
dancing… Katherine

The city of Waxahachie granted the WSAC the amount
pledged of $175,000 to our building fund on Monday,
November 16, 2015. I would like to thank the city council, Paul Stevens and John Smith for a unanimous vote
of approval. For all of the members and the community
who have made contributions, I would like to extend
my deepest gratitude. Our current and future members
of WSAC will benefit greatly from this venture. As we
grow each year we will be implementing new programs
and equipment to assist all in gaining strength, agility,
keeping seniors in motion. We look forward to a new
year and new construction. Jeanee
