Dear Prime Minister,
I am writing to express the heartfelt sorrow of the members of the EU-ASEAN Business
Council at the passing of your father and the first Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan
Yew.
Mr Lee was truly a great man; an international statesman with impeccable credentials who
worked tirelessly and selflessly for the benefit of his nation and the people of Singapore.
Singapore’s success is due in no small part to Mr Lee: his vision and his strength of
character to see his vision become reality. It is because of him that Singapore is now such
a welcoming place for international businesses to base their Asia hubs and HQs, something
that has undoubtedly boosted Singapore’s standing as a regional and global financial hub
and centre for research and development.
Lee Kuan Yew has left a lasting legacy for all Singaporeans and residents of Singapore to
enjoy.
