March 2015 - EWI of Philadelphia
March 2015 | Vol. 8, No.1
From the Desk of the President
“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to
create, nurture and transform.
-Diane Mariechild
Where would the women of EWI be without all of the
women who came before us and broke the glass
ceilings that kept them from achieving greatness in
their respective fields? These women paved the way
so that the journey into leadership roles in business,
sports government, STEM, the non-profit sector as
well as the world of entertainment would be easier for
those who came after them.
We want to be reminded of these trailblazers. This month our chapter has
dedicated our Facebook page to some of the women who were first in their
fields in a feature titled “A Month of Women Who Were First.” We will be
posting a profile of a woman who was first in her field every single day for
the month of March. This series is our very modest attempt to honor
trailblazing women and celebrate Women’s History Month. As Carol Burnett
(who happens to be the 1st woman to host her own variety show) once said
“we don’t stop school when we graduate.” If you follow our page you will
learn about the first female bodybuilding champion, the first woman to serve
in the United States Congress, the first woman to receive a US patent, as well
as 28 other women inspiring women of note.
We cannot celebrate Women’s History Month without taking a moment to
remember the esteemed founder of Executive Women International, Lucille
Johnson Perkins. Ms. Perkins’ started EWI over 75 years ago. Her vision
to bring women together to grow in our careers and serve our communities
lives on within each of us. We are grateful for her service and her
willingness to answer the call to start Executive Women International.

possible.




Why being the best you is essential to the success of those you manage
The role of self-reflection in management
Why mastering character development above all else is key
How to lead with more confidence
The secret ingredient to success and growth in your business
Greg Provance is an entertainment and hospitality professional, currently in the role of General Manager of
Vintana, a member of the esteemed Cohn Restaurant Group in San Diego, CA. His mission is to help others to
benefit from the culture he has helped to create in his business, by learning how to practice the principles that
drive success.
