Generations Christian Education (GenCE) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing high quality
international Christian education to children in Hong Kong. The organisation has a centralised team that
provides leadership and operational support for a family of schools. We are a dynamic, growing
organisation with three kindergartens/ primary schools in four locations currently, and a plan to further
expand, including the near term creation of a middle school.
Job Description – Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Position
The COO provides dynamic leadership of all non-academic areas of the organisation to support and
implement the vision, mission and values of GenCE. This is a strategic leadership position within a
rapidly growing organisation. As such, the COO, partnering with the Executive Director, working with
the core senior leadership team, will help consolidate and strengthen the current foundation of people,
systems and culture, while planning and building for future growth.
Reporting
The COO reports to the Executive Director, who reports to the Board of Directors.
Organisation Structure
The COO will partner with the Executive Director and work collaboratively with the members of the
senior leadership team, which includes other members of GenCE management team (currently, Director
of Administration& Finance, Director of Advancement, Director of Learning) and the Principals of each of
the schools.
Key Responsibilities
Operations:




Oversee the performance of all non-academic areas of the organisation, including Finance,
Human Resources, Facilities Management and IT/Learning Technology.
Establish and develop consistent, transparent and effective policy, processes and systems to
provide the highest quality, integrated central operational function that supports a growing
family of schools.
Establish and execute a sustainable business model and effective working culture between the
GenCE and its schools.
Ensure the continued financial viability of GenCE and its schools through sound fiscal
management, including overseeing the financial planning, budgeting and reporting.

Senior Leadership:




Partner with Executive Director in the development of the organisation, offering advice and
support in all areas.
Provide effective and inspiring leadership to help build a holistic unified team, system and
culture across the family of schools that is rooted in the organisational mission and values.
Attend/lead relevant meetings as appropriate, including Board Meetings, Senior Leadership
Team meetings, the Board’s Finance & Personnel and Development sub-committee meetings.
Carry out ad hoc projects, as required by the Executive Director to fulfil organisational needs.
Management:


Lead, develop, manage performance of and retain GenCE’s operations departments.
Develop and maintain strong, supportive working relationships with the Principals to ensure
effective operations of the schools
Strategic Plan Implementation:
Provide:

leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes, including support for the
Principals as they implement the strategic plan in their schools.

leadership and partner with the Executive Director in the planning and process of opening new
schools and initiatives.

Qualifications




Minimum BA/BS degree with at least 10 years of experience, and track record in senior
management within the education sector, or similar senior management capacity and role.
Previous experience in leading and building an educational operations department, or working
in a relevant COO capacity, in a multi-cultural work setting.
Excellent written, presentation, verbal and interpersonal communications skills with bi-lingual
English and Chinese communication skills preferred
Experience in leading and implementing organisational change.
