Conference Curating Performance Art as an Artistic Practice

The 5th edition of the Month of Performance Art is in full swing, and the first conference to be
hosted by the Association for Performance Art in Berlin APAB e.V. is coming up. We are very
excited to welcome you all to Berlin. Here is some practical info. Please read carefully, and don’t
hesitate to ask if you need additional information.
Time
Conference hours are 10 h to 20 h on both
days, Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23.
To facilitate an in depth discussion, please
plan to stay for as much of the two days as
you can.

Your presentations will be organised in blocks
of three, with a common discussion time for
all three presentations after the last one
finishes. If you have special needs within this
structure, please use the emails provided in
the conference schedule to contact your copresenters directly. And big PLEASE: Arrive at
the venue well ahead of the time of your
presentation.

GlogauAir: The venue
The conference venue is called GlogauAir. It is one
wing left of a historic school building at Glogauer
Straße 16 in 10999 Berlin Kreuzberg. Today, it is an
artist residency run by a group of very friendly Spanish
artists, and has some studios upstairs. We will have
use of the entire downstairs, with three adjoining rooms
to present, listen and discuss, and a kitchen to make
and have lunch.
Behind the house there is a beautiful garden which you
might consider to use if you are presenting a
performance. We have full use of it, and if the weather
is nice, we might also have one or both of the lunches
out there.
Tech
There will be two projectors, two mikes on stands, a mixer and a soundsystem. Your computer can
plug into both. We provide a VGA cable, a Thunderbolt adapter for Mac, and a minijack plug for
sound. If you need other connections, please bring an adapter. If you need a computer to present,
and can’t bring your own, please contact me. Those of you who asked for special items: I will try to
source them as well and contact you if there should be any difficulties. KBB, the office for artistic
needs, run by Joy Harder and Marie-Alice Schultz will be on site to provide assitance with anything
that should be needed last minute.
Food
Lunches will be served on both days. Both are
part of performative presentations, and you might
be asked to participate. We will do our best to
serve presenters first, but there is no guarantee
we can feed all that show up. Be prepared to
share.
Throughout the day there will be water, tea,
coffee, some fruit and cookies. No meat will be
served. If you have other dietary requirements,
please bring your
own food.
Getting There
The closest U-Bahn station is „Görlitzer Bahnhof“ on the temporary
U12 line (the U12 is a temporary merge of parts of the lines U1 and
U2 because of construction). Closer to the venue, there is the bus
stop „Glogauer Straße“ on the bus line M29 that runs frequently
between Hermannplatz and Roseneck. You can catch it at U
Moritzplatz or U Görlitzer Bahnhof.
Be aware that we cannot provide accomodation. If you don’t have a
place to stay yet, start looking imediately. I can forward requests to
the group of MPA–B organisers, but most our apartments are
already filled with guests to capacity.
