No sponsor was found for Thunder Over the Indian River, so there won’t be any
fireworks show in PSJ this year, but here are some
other shows in the area where you can enjoy the
evening with your family.

Red, White and BOOM!
Red, White and BOOM will be held from 7:00
pm - 10:00 pm at Sand Point Park, 101 N Washington Ave., Titusville. The event will include
live music, food and business vendors, and lots
of activities for the whole family.
Admission is free. Fireworks
will go off at 9:15 pm from the Marina Park.
Cocoa Fireworks
Brevard County Parks and Recreation, with
the Cities of Cocoa and Rockledge, will sponsor
a Fireworks Display on Saturday, July 4 from
Lee Wenner Park, 300 Riveredge Boulevard in
Cocoa, with viewing from Riverfront Park.
Come out to beautiful Riverfront Park to enjoy
a FREE concert from the Brevard Symphony
Orchestra as they play along with a fantastic fireworks display over the Indian River. The concert
starts at 8 pm and fireworks begin at 9:15 pm.
Remember to bring your lawn chairs or blankets
and get here early to find a spot. Food and beverages will be available for sale at the park and
admission is FREE!
Lee Wenner Park will be closed to all traffic
from 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, through midnight
Saturday, July 4, for staging of the fireworks.
The boat ramp, playground and all park facilities

The City of Melbourne will present an Independence Day Fireworks display at 9 p.m. on
Sunday, July 4, over the Indian River Lagoon at
Claude Edge Front Street Park, 2210 Front Street,
just north of the Melbourne Causeway.

Park is to be closed at 5 p.m. on July 3 to allow
for Independence Day activities at the park, and

Palm Bay’s Revival of the Good Ole Boy
Network It was definitely concerning when I read the
June 8, 2015 Florida Today story by Rick Neale
titled, “Leadership exodus strikes Palm Bay City
Hall.” Six key employees resigned from Palm
Bay, one terminated and the Police Chief retired.
Now friends of the new City Manager are in these
positions. Whoa! The positions are City Manager,
Deputy City Manager, Police Chief, City Clerk,
Parks and Recreation Director, Business Development Administrator, Bayfront Community
Redevelopment Agency Administrator, Housing
and Neighborhood Development Service Specialist. Those not fired were pretty much forced
to resign - 172 years of experience gone in a few
short months. The Public Works Director is a
ninth position which is on administrative leave
and is to be replaced. This has all happened after
Tres Holton and Jeff Bailey were elected in City
Council seats in November making a majority
with Deputy Mayor Harry Santiago.

This new majority is definitely changing and
seems to be getting rid of anyone associated with
the past. The City Council ignored the executive
search firm they hired to find a City Manager
replacement and hired an individual with no
government experience. Then they fired the City
Clerk before hiring Dave Isnardi as Deputy City
Manager. Isnardi is the former Chief of Staff to
Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson
and former vice chairman of the Brevard Republican Executive Committee.
The icing on this cozy cake is Dave Isnardi’s
former boss, Brevard County District 5 Commissioner Andy Anderson, has been hired in a newly
created position as Palm Bay’s Economic Development Administrator. This really bothers me
as it will affect every citizen in Brevard County.
Anderson now has 2 so-called “part time” jobs.
Whether or not it’s called “part time,” being
County Commissioner presently is, or at least
should be a “full time” job. In a May 16th Florida
Today Story by Dave Berman and Wayne Price
titled, “Brevard County Commissioner Anderson

takes Palm Bay Job,” former Palm Bay Mayor
Mazziotti stated, "I think it will raise questions
among the residents of District 5. He needs to do
his job as commissioner. These are both full-time
jobs.” When the job was called part time years
ago, the county was half the size in population
and didn’t have the problems that require research to determine how to move forward.
In Florida Today, County Attorney Scott Knox
said it was fine as long as Anderson doesn’t vote
when there’s a conflict of interest. How can there
not be conflicts of interest on most issues? This
is the largest city in Brevard County in both
size and population. How does this not lead to
an advantage given to Palm Bay over all other
Brevard County cities on just about any issue?
What happens with all these conflicts of interest? If he declares the conflict, and I’m sure
someone needs to watch every issue, that leaves
four commissioners on a large number of decisions. If there’s a tie, the vote is void or the discussion has to go back for reconsideration, with
a commissioner having to vote possibly a way

he or she is not happy with. Bad for Brevard, and
probably not for Palm Bay. Palm Bay will have
privileged information no other city will know.
Is that fair? What prevents Palm Bay competing with the county so the city gets the business
instead of the county? Or Palm Bay competing
with north Brevard with extra incentives to attract a business? Had Anderson been hired as a
city janitor, there would not be a problem. But
how can anyone fail to see the conflict of interest with the job being the Palm Bay’s Economic
Administrator?
The only one on the Palm Bay City Council
that is trustworthy and with common sense is
Council Member Michelle Paccione. I know her
and I have heard her on a number of issues. She’s
honest and doesn’t have a hidden agenda.
Tres Holton, one of the new City Council
members making the new majority is not new
to politics, but had never been elected before
November, 2014. The Florida Today article
stated, “Holton has defended the City Hall reorganization. During a council meeting, he said
"naysayers, defeatists and slanderers" criticized
Juan Ponce de León's voyage to Florida, the
Gemini and Mercury astronauts and the political
campaigns of inexperienced candidates Abraham
Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
Holton displayed a tic-tac-toe puzzle on a
sheet of paper. "Got to think outside the box.
This is the way things have been done here for a
long, long time. It's time to start doing something
different. We are explorers. We are pioneers. And
I'm actually excited about this new renaissance,"
Holton said.
Tres, I knew you when you were twenty and
you are still spouting the same rubbish as then.
Grow up, open your eyes, people are relying on
you.

Florida Special Session
Just about everyone knew what the outcome
of the Legislative Branch debate on Friday would
be. I knew watching the debate would just aggravate myself, but I had to see if there was any
valid argument against the Medicaid expansion.
One representative advocating no expansion
said there was non-transparency in healthcare and
gave an example of when you go to a dentist and
ask how much for a teeth cleaning, the dental office could tell you, but if you go to a hospital and
ask the cost of a procedure, they just ask for your
insurance card. The examples were completely

treatment and procedures to any internal organs

According to a Huffington Post article by
Mollie Reilly titled, “Florida House Rejects
Plan To Expand Health Care For Hundreds Of
Thousands,” quoted the following from The New
York Times, “It's something we cannot afford, not
only in Florida but in the rest of the nation if we
have government controlled health care,” stated
Rep. Doug Broxson (R).
My husband and I are both on Tricare Prime
like a large number of retired military and it’s a
government controlled healthcare system. What
about Medicare? Same with the state healthcare
Rick Scott and the legislature are getting. Florida
and the nation can’t afford any of these? They
said the same thing about that when it was voted
in years ago.
In the Huffington Post article, Rep Broxson
(R) went on to say, "History tells us that anything
the government is involved in tends to expand.

I’m very concerned that we could spend all our
gross national product on health care and it would
take away from every other program we have
in the state." That might be right, but saying no
without coming up with a replacement is not
only irresponsible but immoral, and they don’t
deserve to be in office.
Seems similar as another representative that
blamed the non-profit hospitals. It’s amazing
that Florida can have State Statute 395.1041 that
requires any hospital that has emergency services
(non-profit hospitals) must provide emergency
treatment if necessary, track who and why they
treated for at least 5 years, and if they are proved
not to have provided service correctly, they can
be sued by state law, the same as required by
federal law. At the same time, the Florida Governor and House of Representatives wants those
hospitals to eat that cost. Hospitals are currently
writing off millions of dollars every year for
thousands of individuals who are not paying for
their treatment. If they have to write off more,
all it will mean is cost will be going up for the
rest of Floridians. There’s no such thing as a free
ride. Someone has to pay, so why not take it out
of the taxes we’ve already paid instead of paying
it out hidden in our hospital bills.
The House Medicaid discussion went on for
6 hours, with Democrats pleading for a yes vote.
Note: On June 12, the legislature came up with
a solution to pay for the hospitals’ costs to cover
the uninsured. According to a June 12th Tampa
Bay Times story by Steve Bousquet, Florida
lawmakers reached a deal to distribute more than
$2 billion to hospitals, “To make up for the federal cut, the state will pump nearly $400 million
into LIP in next year's budget, eating up nearly
half of a projected $1 billion surplus. That $400
million will draw an additional $600 million in
matching federal money.” It’s a very inefficient
way to cover the money the 134 hospitals spent
on the uninsured. It would be a lot more efficient
to subsidize those to pay for insurance so the
working poor has to help pay towards the cost of
health care. That’s not much different than what
is done for all the legislature and state employees.

Florida Economy
If you listen to everyone in the Florida government, everything is wonderful with the Florida
economy and everything is owed to Rick Scott
and the current Florida legislature. But according to a June 12th, Tampa Bay Times article by
Robert Trigaux, the Times Business columnist,
everything isn’t as rosy as we are being told.
Robert studied the (GDP) Gross National Product, or the amount of economic output divided
by the number of people.
The article stated “In 1997, for example, the
Florida's per capita GDP was $36,127. In 2013,
it was $38,384. In other words, 16 years later,
one Floridian produces on average a mere $2,257
more in GDP. In that same time, California's per
capita GDP rose 29 percent to $53,497, New
York's increased 30 percent to $62,420 and
Texas was up 27 percent to $52,465. Nationally,
per capita GDP increased 20 percent in those 16
years.”
The article acknowledged that Florida was
hit harder than many states, and in the last year,
our GDP has jumped more, which should help
Florida start playing catchup with many other
states, but the article stated a large problem with
Florida is a large amount of the GDP is based on
tourism, and the tourism industry generally pays
a lot less than other industries.
It’s the higher paying jobs we need to really
drive Florida’s economy forward. One very favorable note is the Brooklyn Institute named “the
hottest 15 metro areas for advanced industries,”
those with significant research and development
in science and engineering field, which is most
likely to drive economic growth and believe it or
not, the Palm Bay area, better known as Florida's
Space Coast, was singled out for its “small but
potent portfolio of advanced industries primarily
engaged in aerospace and defense.”
It’s definitely something for us to crow about,
but probably not enough to push the whole of
Florida’s economy. According to the article,
Economist Sean Snaith, Director of the University of Central Florida's Institute for Economic
Competitiveness, believes Florida will start
catching up with the other states. I hope he’s
right.

Amendment 1
I watched a June 8th Florida Senate Agriculture and Natural Resource Budget Conference
Committee hearing where Senator Thad Altman,
R – Cape Canaveral, held up the Florida Today
and asked the Senate to respect the voters on
what 75% pf the people voted for on Amendment 1. Committee Chair Senator Alan Hays,
R - Umatilla shot him down, saying he didn’t
agree with purchase of lands and he was obeying
the entire Amendment 1. Even Bill Mick, who
is known through his radio show as being very
conservative, has harsh words for the Republican
legislature and hasn’t hidden his annoyance with
them on a recent Matt Reed show.
Thank you, Thad. You are a true representative
of the people. We need to get back to having a
legislature of the people instead of one that follows the directions of the party’s leaders. We’ve
somehow lost that representation where the legislature is working for us.
Public Shaming
After watching and reading various shows and
articles on “Public Shaming” of children on the
internet or street corner, I believe this practice
serves no purpose. But did it work in another
time and place?
I remember my grandfather telling me about
his childhood. Growing up in a small English
village in the late 1890’s, the schooling was very
strict with corporal punishment being the cane,
along with “Public Shaming.” Public Shaming
consisted of walking the village with a wide
wooden board being carried around the child’s
neck with the “crime” printed on the plaque, such
as “I am a thief” for something as small as taking
another child’s pencil, or “I am late for school.”
Depending on the crime, the punishment lasted
from a day to a week. Whenever the child walked
the village, the villagers would yell “Naughty
Boy” or “Naughty Girl, don’t be naughty again.”
No parent ever objected to this. This public shaming was a great deterrent and even as adults rarely
were there crimes in the village.
This may have worked in a small village, but
this “Public Shaming” is a lot different today.
There’s a lot different lifestyle with Facebook,
Twitter, and other social media. There are also a
lot of people on the streets or in cars that don’t
know the child and don’t care, with the child
standing on the street embarrassed and devastated. On Facebook and other technology, loads
of laughs, ugly comments, while accomplishing
nothing but creating an angry or distraught child.
Public shaming will not work today and does
much more harm than good. Actually, it doesn’t
seem any different than another form of physical
or cyber bullying. We all know how public opinion feels about bullying. Too many times it ends
in tragedy. There are many ways today to make
a child or teenager more likely to conform. Their
technological possessions and their freedom are
both prized above all other.
This is my just my opinion as a mother and
grandmother and once a child. A naughty child.

MONTHLY TAX UPDATE
Summer time always leads to our young
adults looking for spending money work. It’s
usually their first job and now is a good time
to educate them on the requirement of paying
taxes and how the taxes help support our city,
state and the nation. Additionally, they need to
understand how social security and medicare
taxes apply to them. First and most important,
their knowledge of withholding and estimated
tax payments will follow them for the rest of
their lives. If they receives wages and are being
paid as an employee, then their employer will
withhold taxes from their paychecks and send
it to the Internal Revenue Service Center (IRS)
on their behalf. Or, if they are self-employed,
an explanation to them about making estimated
tax payments using Form 1040-ES is necessary
to reduce the amount of taxes they’ll owe when
filing their annual tax return.
Self-employed earnings may be from jobs like
baby-sitting or lawn care. Proper recordkeeping techniques will be required to keep track
of income and expenses related to their work.
Another concern is tip income. All tip income is
taxable, a daily log is required and the tip income
is included in their annual income or the total tips
need to be reported to their employer if the total
is more than $20 per month.
Okay, our young adult has found a job as a
regular employee and their employer requires
them to complete the Form W-4. This is the
form that will inform the employer of their legal
name, social security number, mailing address,
filing status, the number of exemptions and if any
additional amount of withholding is requested.
Everything is pretty self explanatory until you get
to the number of exemptions and the additional
amount of withholding tax being requested.
On the Form W-4, there is a Personal Allowance Worksheet. This worksheet will provide assistance to determine the number of allowance(s)
you should reflect on the form and “hopefully”
avoid having too much or too little federal income
tax withheld from your pay. You may also go to
www.irs.gov and search for the “Withholding
Calculator” for assistance. This may be important to a majority of employees with families,
unearned income, rental property, high itemized
deductions and other tax reporting circumstances.
However, for your young adult, I personally
like to make it simple with this recommendation.
Have them complete the W-4 with bypassing the
Personal Allowance Worksheet and go straight to
entering their legal name, social security number,
mailing address, check single filing status, enter
zero “0” for their number of allowances and
have an additional amount of $5 or $10 entered
on Line 6. Submitting the young adults Form
W-4 reflecting this information could provide
them with sufficient withholding taxes to prevent
them from owing and most likely result in a little
refund when they file their annual tax return. This
isn’t fail proof, but it does work for a majority of
part-time working young adults. They will then
sign, date, and submit the form to their employer.
For the self-employed young adults, the
completion of Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax
Payments, requires an understanding of the
applicable taxes resulting from their net selfemployment income activities. It is highly recommended you contact a tax advisor for assistance
when determining the procedure to arrive at
your taxable income, the amount of estimated

Happy Independence Day! We will surely
miss the PSJ fireworks this year, since there were
sadly no “takers” to fund the display this year.
If you plan on using fireworks, please do so
with caution. A local woman was hit by a live
bottle rocket while driving her car on the way
home, through the driver’s side window, which
was down at the time.
Stay away from flammable objects and wear
non flammable clothing. Keep a bucket of water
or operable fire extinguisher handy.
Animals can be upset by them as well, so pet
wraps and sweaters can help and can be purchased at your local pet shop.

Registration
Registration is currently open for
our regular fall season - flag football
(4-6) is $55.00 and tackle football (7-14) &
cheerleading (3-15) is $85.00. Rates are set to
increase on August 1st so get registered now
and save! We also have a great referral program
available; see below. You may register online
anytime or at our home fields Monday - Thursday
from 6:30-7:00 pm, starting July 6th.
We are encouraging as many as possible to
register online as it offers a streamlined process
for everyone involved and allows for better communication for the league / team events, including
schedules, field closures, celebrations and such.

Tackle practices begin the week of July 6,
Cheer the week of July 13 and Flag the week of
July 20. We practice through the week nights with

William "Bill"
Workman
Bill died at home
on May 21st. Bill was
retired from Brevard
County where he
worked as a building
inspector/code enforcement officer. He
was past president of
Cocoa Lions Club,
Four Communities
Fire Department and
the Florida Lions Eye
Bank. He served on the Port St. John Special
District Advisory Board when it was first formed.
Bill was a member of Canaveral Masonic Lodge
and Azan Shrine. He was a charter member of the
Port St. John United Methodist Church.
There will be a celebration of life for him on
Saturday, July 25th at 11am at the Port St. John
United Methodist Church on Fay Blvd. All who
knew him are welcome.
He is survived by his wife Randa Workman
and his two daughters, Renee of Port St. John
and Pamela of Suffolk, VA. He is also survived
by 9 grandchildren: James, Stephanie, Danny,
Tommy, Jacob, Vanessa, Brianna, Brooke and
Daniel, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great
grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the building fund at PSJ United Methodist or the
Azan Shrine for the Shriners Hospital.
Blankets And Babies
The Port St. John Library has two yarn clubs.
Members of both clubs have worked tirelessly
this year making blankets for the Florida State
Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary President
Jeanette Puthoff’s special project. The project
was blankets for Winnie Palmer Hospital for
Women and Babies NICU (Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit) preemies.
One group meets on Mondays from 10-1 and
is called Yarning for a Cause. This group chooses
a project to put their efforts toward. They chose
the baby blankets for the hospital. Their next
project is blankets and care packages for the sailors on the U.S.S. Iwo Jima (yes, the women on
ships are called sailors). This group is facilitated
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE Day!!

The heat of summer seems the perfect time
to appreciate and respect the sacrifices and triumphs of our nation’s history. Picnics, fireworks,
parades, saluting the flag and the old gentlemen
marching by in old military uniforms and thanking God we can seems the perfect way to do it.
In the early 80’s the Jaycees hosted the Independence Day celebration and fireworks on
an island close to us that is used for fishing and
baseball. My husband was a Jaycee and our
whole family was invited to join in.
Because I had five children, they assumed I
knew how to handle small people, so I should be
in charge of the Kiddie Games... a nomination
I was not aware of until two weeks before the
celebration. The discovery came when a Jaycee
arrived at my door with a dozen raw eggs, three
packages of balloons and a book on party games
for children, which was already three days overdue from the library.
On the big day my own preteen “helpers”
quickly figured out cashiering in the soda wagon
was not only cooler, but a good-looking 7th
grade boy they knew from school was helping
direct traffic within a stone’s throw and really
appreciated all the free soda my girls ran out to
him at every opportunity. Dear old Mom was on
her own.
Since July in Florida boasts of high double
and some triple digit temperatures I sidelined the
Egg Toss in favor of a Water Balloon toss. I was
doubly happy about that idea when it turned into
a Peg The Adult fest.
I was rewarded for spending an inordinate
amount of time slicing the large watermelons
exactly at the right angles for optimum seed accessibility, layering the slices just so and making
sure they were cool but not too cold when the
Watermelon Seed Spitting contest turned into Eat
All The Watermelon, Seeds And All, That You
Can, Then Peg The Adult With The Rinds contest.
The Tug of War turned into Hold The Rope
And Run Circles Around The Adult contest, with
an If She Actually Falls Over, Roll Around On
The Ground Laughing Hysterically bonus.
After a wonderful fireworks display my kids
and I helped clean up the island while waiting for
the traffic to clear. By the time we got the kids
home and bathed and ready for bed we had been

At breakfast the next afternoon I asked them
what they had learned. The 3-and 4-year olds
learned their mom lied when she told them, “Your
lips will fall off if you eat too much chocolate
ice cream.”
The heat sensitive 6-year old learned where
every shower was in the park.
The two preteens learned Billy’s phone number.
Mom learned some very interesting new
words, which she would have no problem using
should any Jaycee be foolish enough to nominate
her for anything, ever again.

Golf Classic Drives Results Exceeding $64,000 for Early Childhood Education
Local residents came together for the Jess
Parrish Medical Foundation (JPMF) “Fran Gerrett Memorial Golf Classic” on Friday, May 1
at La Cita Golf & Country Club and The Great
Outdoors Golf Club. The event was sponsored by
the law firm of Zumpano Patricios & Winker, P.A.
and raised more than $64,000 for The Children’s
Center (TCC) in Titusville, exceeding the goal
by more than $19,000.

North Star Seeks Volunteers
North Star, the child grief support program at
Hospice of St. Francis, needs caring adult volunteers to help. Volunteers play a major role in
providing our services. We are looking for men
and women who are energetic, compassionate
and patient. Volunteers must be willing to commit
to the required screening and training.
The North Star children's groups are designed
for children from age 3 to 18 and meet in the evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers are asked
to commit to eight hours per month. No previous
experience is required.
Training is free of charge. Classes will be held
on Tuesday, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2015 from
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Class meets at Hospice of
St. Francis, 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville.

(BAMS) will be hosting a Health Fair with the
theme “Christmas in July” on Wednesday, July

Shrimp Boil & Pie Show
Cocoa Main Street is pleased to announce our
organization’s first annual 4th of July Shrimp Boil
and Pie Show event on Saturday, July 4, 2015.
The event is planned as a fundraiser to support
Cocoa Main Street’s efforts to achieve economic
development through historic preservation.
The purpose of the Cocoa Main Street program is to continue to enhance our community
identity and heritage, foster a center of activity and ensure economic stability for the heart
of Cocoa through the concentrated efforts of
design, promotion, organization and economic
revitalization.
This awesome event is being held in the Riverfront Park overlooking the Indian River. Entries
for the Pie Show will be accepted from 10:00 AM
to 11:30 AM and winners will be announced at
2:00 PM. Our dedicated volunteers will begin
serving our delicious “low country-style” Shrimp
Boil fare at 11:30 AM.
With every $10 Shrimp Boil meal donation,
donors will receive a FREE Frisbee, courtesy of
our friends over at Annie’s Toy Chest, located at
526 Brevard Avenue in Cocoa Village. A “Low
Country Party Pack” is being offered for parties of up to four(4) for $50, and will include
a private table in the event area, non-alcoholic
drink service, up to 4 Frisbees, and personal table
service from our wonderful volunteers. Shrimp
Boil service will continue through 2:30 PM or
until we run out.
The City of Cocoa, City of Rockledge and
Brevard Symphony Orchestra will continue the
festivities into the evening and close out the night
with a huge fireworks display over the river.

Start Smart Youth Program
Brevard County Parks and Recreation, Central
Area, will offer two summer sessions of Start
Smart, a youth sports developmental program,
at Kiwanis Island Park, 951 Kiwanis Island Park
Road, Merritt Island. Session II is July 8-29. Each
session is four weeks in duration with classes
every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Start Smart Program is a parent-child
program that helps prepare children ages 3 to 5
years old to enter the world of organized sports
by teaching fundamental motor skills such as
throwing, catching, kicking and batting. Using
age-appropriate equipment to conduct fun exercises, children learn basic skills that will help
them to succeed and excel once they enter youth
sports. Parents will have the opportunity to learn
how to be the coach and mentors.
Cost is $20 for the session or $6 for an individual class. Class size is limited.

than adequate. They are spending millions of dollars in South Florida but they
seem to want to offer little or nothing for our neighbors’ properties. I know
that even though those residents moved to the Groves for peace, quiet and a
country life style, they would accept any decent offer and move on. I am not
happy with that scenario but the train is coming.
The Train Impact Coalition in Indian River County lost their first round
in an attempt to block the AAF from acquiring Private Activity Bonds from
the State of Florida. The Coalition feels that AAF is not in compliance with
federal regulations, specifically the Natural Environment Policy Act (NEPA),
which assures protections to both the natural and human environments. The
Coalition feels that any support for the issuance of these bonds is premature.
Unfortunately, the courts felt differently, but it is not over yet.
Thanks again to all who helped with the onion sale this year. As always,
Conley Jordan took the lead on this project and we got them all sold. Pecans
will be next in the fall. Thanks again to all for supporting the Canaveral
Groves HOA.
I talked with my brother by another mother, Jerry Wall. Jerry is doing as
well as he can for an old feller. He told me that he had been out of contact
for a while. I am not sure if he shot his computer or buried it in the yard. He
said that he was waiting on a new green card so he can get back on the hard
road. Now you know that that is not true, but it makes for a good story. Jerry
can be a little scary when he gets cleaned up with his flowered shirt, shorts
and rubber boots. I think the rubber boots won't be necessary because it has
been hotter than a popcorn poot out in West, By Gosh, Canaveral Groves. I
know that you guys out in the boondocks have not been receiving the
Happenings. I spoke to the boss and he was going to inquire with the
USPS as to why many folks are not getting the paper both here and
out west. We will have to wait and see.
I hope that everyone is having a great summer so far even though
it has been so hot. I spoke with my son Rob in Alaska today and he
said it was 81 degrees in Anchorage and those folks do not have air. I
looked out my window today and it was so hot that I saw a fire plug
chasing a dog.

Proper Burial
George went on a vacation to the Middle East with his family, including his mother-in-law. During their vacation in Jerusalem, George’s
mother-in-law died.
With the death certificate in his hand, George went to the American Consulate office to make arrangements to send the body back to
the United States for a proper burial. The Consul told George that to
send the body back to the United States for burial would be very, very
expensive. It could cost him as much as $5,000. The Consul told him
that in most cases the person responsible for the remains normally
decided to bury the body there in Jerusalem, and that that would cost
him only $150.
George thought for some time and answered, “I don’t care how much
it will cost to send the body back; that’s what I want to do.”
The Consul said, “You must have loved your mother-in-law very
much, considering the difference in price.”
“No, it’s not that,” said George. “You see, I know of a case many,
many years ago of a man that was buried here in Jerusalem. On the
third day he arose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance.”

All Aboard Florida: I have received calls from
residents whose homes back up to the All Aboard
Florida High Speed Rail Project. According to
one resident, AAF has made an adjustment to
their proposed route. I know that one resident
on Palmetto St. received a rather large offer for
his property and he accepted. AAF is now making offers to purchase bits and pieces of existing
