Sports Day 19 March 2015
Venue: Houghton Primary School
The day started out cloudy and cold, but alhamdulillah it warmed up a little bit
in order for us to have a fun -filled Sports Day. Learners belted out the National
Anthem and the Warcries to get the action started.
Beanbags were everywhere as learners raced to fill their buckets. The blockbuilding race was an intricate affair with learners concentrating on ensuring the
tower was built and then speeding off to the finish line. Next up were the hulahoops and learners had to pick these up and keep them around them till the
finish line. The three legged race was quite interesting as different groups employed different strategies in trying to reach the finish line. Some hopped, some
ran and some jumped, but they all got to the end.
This was the first time we had sprints that were judged by points and organising the line judges took a bit of a time. Video evidence was used in some races
as the finish was quite close.
The ice cream cone race was a test of balance for the learners. The t– shirt
race showed us who is able to get dress the quickest and arrive at school on
time. The tyre race was awesome, with some learners rolling the tyres whilst
almost running side wards. Others had to fetch their tyres and ensure they
were kept on the track. The relay is always a popular event and this year was
no different. Learners had to ensure they collected the baton properly before
building up speed and running for the finish. On one occasion, the baton did
not find its intended recipient. For the first time too, we had Tug of War and a
battle of strength between the different groups took place.
Shukran to the staff for their assistance in ensuring the day was a success.
