Health situation in the sector
Epidemiological research studies and enquiries go back to

Prevention : a good professional practice
As a result of the above enquires 7 cards were issued
by the Health insurance and the Institutions de la
Coiffure to cover the following fields :
The risks of the craft
The shampoo
The bleaching/lightening
The dyeing
The permanent
Prevention and care of hands
Ventilation and cleaning of the salon
Conclusions of the 2004 research
1. Hairdressers rank first in occupational dermatosis
caused by PPD (paraphenylenediamine)
2. Breathing allergies, asthma and rhinitis, have been
fully analyzed by the INRS Document quoted above
and strongly recommends an early guidance when
choosing the craft and early detection of any
breathing difficults in young apprentices and
students
Up dating data
A report on the sector conducted in 2008 CNEC
(Conseil National des Entreprises de Coiffure), I+C,
shows that occupational diseases represent :
1.5 % of the total periods of excused illnesss in the
franchisee
2% in independent salons
And 1% in home hairdressing
New measures to prevent occupational diseases
Two important measures have been taken since 2004 :
A full day education for employers on the French
compulsory document on prevention « Document
Unique », controlled anually by the Ministry of
Labour
A full curricula on prevention and good practices to
be integrated in the initial vocational training
They are meant to reduce the trend, increasing MSD
which rank first, illnesses linked to nickel follow and
diseases caused by solvents rank third.
