Combined Schools ANZAC
Day Service
On Thursday 23 April our Year 2
to Year 6 children participated in a
combined Belmont schools
ANZAC Day service at the newly
extended War Memorial at
Faulkner Park. It was a wonderful
and very moving service. Our
choir sang beautifully, with a great
solo by Tegan Reder. A huge
thank you and congratulations to
Mrs Lysle for coordinating the
event.
Kewdale ANZAC Day Service
Our school’s ANZAC Day service was Friday 24 April. It was yet
another beautiful service run by our students and showcasing our
choir. Thank you again Mrs Lysle for your wonderful organisation.
Helping Your Child
Probably the most important way parents can help their children with
their learning is ensuring they come to school prepared to learn. This
doesn’t just mean having the items they need – pens and pencils and
the like. It means making sure they are eating healthily and getting to
bed in good time. Adequate sleep in the Primary school years is
absolutely crucial to academic success.

Early Days at Kewdale
Inclement weather was a problem in the area. In particular, persistent
rain caused major problems as most students walked to school. An
early journal entry stated that only 10 out of 30 students were present
due to rain, so the normal timetable was suspended and school closed
early.
Teachers had hassles too, as this entry from 1923 shows. “Miss
Smythe is having a most unpleasant time lately. She has over four
miles (about 6.5 km) to walk to school and the weather has been very
bad, raining almost constantly. Parts of the avenue are under water
and this means that she has to make a considerable detour. This has
added to the four miles, and is very severe on her.”

ANZAC SERVICE AT FAULKNER PARK

ANZAC Service at Kewdale Primary School

Thank you to our dignitaries, Mr Alan Richardson, President,
City of Belmont RSL. Mr Richardson was very busy during the
ANZAC celebrations this year, being the 100th Anniversary of
the Gallipoli landing. We were very fortunate to have him speak
at our service. To our regular guests, Mrs Brenda Smith, who
presented “The Ode” and to Mrs Joy Goodlet and Mr Bob
Poole, thank you for your continued support of Kewdale’s
ANZAC services and also to Mrs Glenys Godfrey, MLA our
local member, who also laid a wreath.

Thank you to everyone who brought in a flower on the 23rd
and to Mrs Caccetta, Mrs Menzies and Ms Horrell for making
the beautiful wreaths for our own school service.

Banana and Cinnamon Toast (Serves 1-2)
2 slices wholemeal bread, toasted on one side
1 ripe banana, peeled
Cinnamon, jam or honey (optional)

What is Diligence?
Diligence is working hard and doing the best job you possibly can.
When you are diligent, you take special care to do things step by
step. You think and move carefully to make sure things will turn
out right. Being diligent is being industrious, giving all you have to
give to whatever you do.
Method
Spread the banana on the untoasted side of the bread, together with a
little jam or honey if desired. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Heat under the grill
or in the microwave until the banana is soft.
If you haven’t tried it before—warm banana is sooo yummy!!! This could
become a favourite.
School Banking Account Opening Day—Thursday 14 May
The School Banking program provides children with an opportunity to make deposits into their personal Commonwealth Bank
Youthsaver account at school each week. The program is about how often your child makes deposits, not how much they deposit.
To encourage regular savings behaviour the program offers an exciting Rewards Program. Every deposit earns your child a Dollarmites
token, and once they’ve collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a reward.
The Commonwealth Bank will be providing the
opportunity for you to open a bank account for
your child/ren on Thursday 14 May from 8:15am – 9am
in the quadrangle near the front office.
Please bring along your driver’s licence or another form of
photographic identification. No identification is required for
your child attending school, as the school will confirm their
identity.
For siblings not attending the school please also bring their

$25 your family can have their past and present students’ names permanently engraved and set into a pathway in the
school grounds. If you are interested in a family brick, please complete the tear-off slip below and send into the office
